      <title>Social Media vs Social Networks</title>
      <link>https://www.podpage.com/tiny-giants/social-media-vs-social-networks/</link>
<description>This week we cover an article from The Atlantic by Ian Bogost that made the rounds in November of 2022 titled, The Age of Social Media Is Ending.
*Spoiler Alert* it’s not… But something the article does well is compare and contrast social media with social networks. While the terms are often used interchangeably today, they are in fact separate and distinct. That distinction is important for aspiring creator (and their parents) to understand.
Tuck in, this is going to be a good one!

      <link>https://www.tinygiants.tech/tiktoks-heating-is-cherry-picking-and-they-dont-pay/</link>
<description>Turns out TikTok’s coveted algorithm isn’t as algorithmically driven as it would have us all believe. The truth is they can cherry-pick who goes viral by what it terms as “heating”. Needless to say, those in the #CreatorEconomy are upset about this.
I’ve said it before, but I find this over-fixation with TikTok weird… It doesn’t even pay Creators that much! How does it benefit you to go viral and still be broke? Yeah, I said it.
In addition to “heating”, TikTok is intentionally undercutting other digital ad platforms by charging unsustainably low CPMs. But that necessarily means they only pay Creators a fraction of what other platforms pay, because it only charges advertiser a fraction or what other platforms charge. Creators need to marinate on that.
TikTok is certainly no slouch and a force to be reckoned with. But I’ve observed a tendency to overstate things and an almost willful lack of context with regard to how it stacks up against its peers in the broader social media landscape. TikTok’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric; no denying that. But it still has a long way to go before it unseats the market leaders in several categories.
Tuck in, because there are no punches pulled in this episode.

      <title>Overvaluing Experience Pt. 2</title>
      <link>https://www.tinygiants.tech/overvaluing-experience-pt-2/</link>
<description>This week we continue our discussion on Google's recent update to their search rater guidelines on how a content creator's first-hand experience is evaluated.
In this episode, host T. Adeola further unpacks a recent Search Engine Journal article that covered how Google is upgrading the concept of E-A-T with an additional ‘E’ for experience. He also lays bare the giant, non-obvious trap most entrepreneurs fall into as it pertains to experience.
You don’t want to miss these insights.

      <title>Seek Impact Before Tech</title>
      <link>https://www.tinygiants.tech/seek-impact-before-tech/</link>
<description>This week T. is joined by Pulitzer Prize winner Bianca J. Jackson. Bianca J. Jackson is an award-winning entrepreneur and creative experience officer (CEO) of BrickRose Exchange where she creates multi-sensory events and experiences in the physical world and in the Metaverse (think SIMS and Roblox). Thus far the events have impacted 5,000 people around the globe in such places as Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa. With more than a decade in tech, digital marketing, and social impact, Bianca knows a thing or two about innovation. Her commitment to excellence has landed me on the stages of:
🎙️ SXSW
🎙️ Digital Summit Philadelphia
🎙️ Tech Inclusion NY
In her Metaverse Business Bytes newsletter, she shares how elements of the Metaverse are impacting life today and in the future; the newsletter has over 9K subscribers on LinkedIn. While working for USA Today several years ago, one of her Metaverse projects, The WallVR, won a Pulitzer Prize in 2018.
In this episode we explore why the importance of being intentional about the impact you want have, rather than chasing fads in tech.

      <title>Overvaluing Experience Pt. 1</title>
<description>This week we discuss Google's recent update to their search rater guidelines on how a content creator's first-hand experience is evaluated. While definitely a step in the right direction, as with most things – context is key.
T. has soooo very much to say about the subject, we had to break it up into two parts! In this episode, host T. Adeola unpacks a recent Search Engine Journal article that covered how Google is upgrading the concept of E-A-T with an additional ‘E’ for experience.
This is kind of a big deal, as it affects not only content creators, but society as a whole.

<title>Using Creativity in Macro Social Work for Economic Development</title>
      <link>https://www.tinygiants.tech/using-creativity-in-macro-social-work-for-economic-development/</link>
<description>This week T. welcomes macro social worker KeAnna M. Daniels to Tiny Giants. KeAnna M. Daniels is a Serial Entrepreneur, Change Agent, Super Connector, Ecosystem Builder, and a Servant Leader in her communities. She is also a Social Worker with an emphasis on social and economic development, entrepreneurial ecosystem building, convening and connecting, and creative, engaging, and inclusive facilitation. She has a strong commitment to entrepreneurship and innovation, diversity, equity, and inclusion, providing equal access to opportunity, and curating safe spaces.
She empowers people to live their best lives by taking risks based on faith, and to live on purpose and with intention to execute with excellence. She’s adopted the practice of learning the lessons in every situation; good, bad, ugly, or indifferent and as a result she’s made Faith Over Fear a lifestyle from the way she thinks to the risks she takes both personally and professionally.
In this episode we cover how macro social work sits at the intersection of social work, entrepreneurship and economic development.

<title>Teen Life on Social Media in 2022</title>
      <link>https://www.tinygiants.tech/teen-life-on-social-media-in-2022/</link>
<description>This week we head right back to Pew Research Center for another banger! Don’t worry, we won’t cover Pew stats exclusively, we promise. We get our stats from a variety or resources. But as these things go, Pew is top tier, so we want to ensure we’re having this conversation on a firm foundation.
In this episode, host T. Adeola unpacks Pew Research Center’s Connection, Creativity and Drama: Teen Life on Social Media in 2022 report. Things aren’t as bad as they seem… but as with most things in life there’s nuance, and opinions are far from unanimous.

      <title>YouTube For The Win</title>
<description>According to Pew Research’s Teens, Social Media and Technology 2022 report, YouTube comes out on top among teens and by all standards of measure is their platform of choice. Yet somehow, Tiktok and Instagram still dominate the Influencer Marketing/Creator Economy conversation.
I find that odd…
In this episode we’ll cover why strategically YouTube makes the most sense in most cases; and the truth behind why I made the strategic decision not, repeat NOT to launch this podcast with a TikTok.
Am I nuts or crazy like a fox? Time will tell…

      <link>https://www.tinygiants.tech/heroes-leaders-stars/</link>
<description>This week, T is joined by video marketing expert N. Liberty White. Liberty White is CEO at CHOZEN MEDIA, a boutique video marketing, and live stream production agency in Atlanta and Toronto (Canada). With nearly 20 years of expertise, Liberty has worked to create solutions to address social and business needs for organizations including, but not limited to: ESPN, United Negro College Fund (UNCF), the Georgia Department of Economic Development, rolling out, and ATL WEBFEST, the first web series festival in the Southeast region of the United States.
When she's not fundraising or building CHOZEN MEDIA Kids, a digital entertainment and EdTech platform where parents can find diverse content and programming to help Black children see themselves as the heroes, leaders, and stars of their own stories, she's trying to learn how to play Roblox from her daughter.
In this episode we cover the importance of representation in children’s programming and much more.

<description>According to a study by Lego &amp; Harris Poll, 3x as many children ages 8-12 want to be YouTubers than astronauts. Additionally, a global study from Adobe found 49% of Gen Z intend to pursue content creation as a career. However, the 2022 Creator Report from LinkTree found that only 12% of creators make over $50k/yr. Therefore, aspiring creators need a lot more than just raw ambition to succeed.
In this episode we’ll cover why the Creator Economy is far more than just YouTube and TikTok; and some considerations Gen Z needs to ponder before taking the plunge.
