No bulletpoints are needed as this was a different kind of podcast — just like the Orange Bowl win was a different kind for Notre Dame. Marcus Freeman, somehow, got this team to come out fired up in the second half after what was mostly a brutal first half of play.

The Irish did things which we normally don’t see — both good and bad. Riley Leonard, Christian Gray, Jerimiyah Love (Jerry Love for the real ones), Jaden Greathouse, Mitch Jeter, and several handfuls of players were magnificent with the win.

The boys are pretty excited and while this is mostly a celebration pod, we go over a bunch of different situations that shaped the final result of this game.

Yeah... I'm not going to bulletpoint this week either. If I did, I might spoil the surprise that is this show. Somehow we covered all of the relevant points surrounding the Notre Dame football program which is highlighted by the recent hiring of Joe Rudolph as the new offensive line coach. You don't need a long list of bullet-point topics for this particular show. The fellas go through the fast pace of how we got here with Rees bolting to Bama, and we all feel that the perception and reaction to the news is a little more complicated that "good riddance" or "TRAITOR" even as both are true and false. This wasn't a random coach that got here a couple of years ago, so the debate about how and why requires a nuance that wasn't required for someone like Chip Long.

Several lists of possible replacements have surfaced, and the guys tell you why like 98% of the names thrown around are crap. The next hire is absolutely a make-or-break situation for Marcus Freeman, and it is definitely something that a couple of big sacks of cash can help improve the situation.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are back on the rise after last week’s dominating victory over the Clemson Tigers. The win took the Irish from being unranked in the College Football Playoff rankings to #20, and it also provided a path to a good season (double digit wins) when mediocrity was all that seemed possible. 

The Irish look to continue to rise this week with its annual game against the Navy Midshipmen. Notre Dame is back on the road, where despite any other troubles this season, they have been an incredibly good team.

Whether it’s a day of great joy like in October 1988 against the Miami Hurricanes, or a few months later when the Irish took down the West Virginia Mountaineers — these are days of great joy that are celebrated all the time by the fanbase and the university.

On the flipside there are the days that were gut-wrenching like in November of 1993 against the Boston College Eagles or the theft that was the 1991 Orange Bowl against the Colorado Buffaloes.

I have a different date in mind — a date that I absolutely obsess over given the fact of just how different it could have made things for the program today.
