<title>From Staten Island to Startups &amp; Meeting Virgil with Matt Fried</title>
<description>Matt Fried has been one of my closest friends for about 15 years—and this episode is everything I hoped it would be. Equal parts hilarious, inspiring, and useful, this conversation walks through Matt’s wild career path, from graffiti-tagged train rides into art school to sneaker collaborations and startup wins, all the way to building a platform that’s literally helping save lives through faster radiology staffing.

We recorded this at Lure Fishbar (yes, sushi is ordered mid-convo), which is extra meaningful because Matt was with me the night I met Virgil Abloh there—and we retell that story together.

But more importantly, we talk about growing up without selling out. About staying curious. About building sustainable businesses on instinct, obsession, and a touch of madness. And what it really means to create a life—professionally and personally—that you actually enjoy living.

This is one of those episodes I hope makes growing up feel less scary for anyone listening. And I’m really proud to share it with you.

      <title>Listening Less To Change Everything</title>
<description>In this episode, I challenge the idea that more input always leads to better outcomes. Counterintuitive? Maybe. But stick with me for 20 minutes, and this might be the episode you can’t unhear for the rest of the year.

🚀 What We Cover:
• Why listening less (yes, less) might be the key to your best year yet
• How external voices—whether from social media, coworkers, or even well-meaning family—can derail your focus and confidence
• The unexpected lesson from equine therapy at Miraval Resort that completely shifted my perspective
• How tuning out more could make you a better friend, partner, and creative thinker
• The personal goals Tim is tackling in 2025—including a New York Times bestseller and a school with 200+ students

🔥 Key Takeaway:
The more you listen, the more you absorb expectations that aren’t yours. But if you listen less—strategically—you might just hear yourself more clearly.

👂 Give yourself the gift of quiet. Hit play, and then maybe… tune out.

<title>John McDonald On How To Build Iconic NYC Restaurants</title>
<description>My conversation with a new friend and fellow NYC dad, John McDonald, one of New York City's longest-standing and most successful restaurateurs. From inside his flagship restaurant, Lure Fishbar in Soho, we chat about the potential closure after 20 years due to Prada's real estate interests. John shares his journey from Phoenix to New York, establishing Merc Bar in 1993 and later opening Lure Fish Bar in 2004. The conversation reveals that Lure serves 350-400 people on busy nights and is one of the city's largest oyster sellers. McDonald discusses his management philosophy, the challenges of running restaurants in NYC, and his approach to menu development. The interview also touches on personal aspects, including how McDonald teaches his children about food and his interest in wellness practices like the 12-hour silent walk concept.

<description>The lows that can come with a first semester at college. How I found myself living alone in Fredericton, New Brunswick, drinking SoCo &amp; Tang, eating KFC family meals solo, getting beat up at a hockey tryout, and watching Mighty Ducks 3 in the theater several times (also solo).
Proof that a horrible start at school doesn't mean anything other than potentially making for a great story further down the road.

      <title>The New Guy</title>
<description>Jim Keyes is one of the most fascinating and admirable CEO's in the history of corporate America and someone we can all learn from. His humble beginnings are staggering, his career is aspirational, and his wisdom is Yoda-esque in the corporate world.
My confidence has been one of the biggest challenges over the past 152 days since I left my corporate job. The opportunity to spend a bit of time with my friend (who I have been calling "The New Guy" since we first collaborated on TikTok together) is always a treat, and I knew he would have some fantastic insights on the topic of confidence and the state of the world overall. He is the former 7-11, and Blockbuster CEO and author of "Education Is Freedom". If you ever hear him speak or pick up his book, the broader lessons you can learn are invaluable. Jim truly came from humble beginnings, and it is my absolute pleasure to share this conversation with you.

I am also happy to share the progress made, including spending more time with my daughter and trying to bring my vision for helpful content to life. I will happily explore the importance of accepting and understanding one's flaws and shortcomings and emphasize the need to learn and improve continuously.

<description>Y'all ask the best questions on LInkedIn and if I could spend all day everyday just answer them, I would but I would never get to them all and I dont know how I can do that and pay the bills (yet!). So, I took about 100 of the last 1,000 and put them into ChatGPT and asked for the themes. #1 of them was "Career Transition &amp; Pivoting" whether that was due to a layoff situation or just broader change needed in your career. That is what this episode is about.

I've gotten this feedback and the question a ton, so let's talk about it because I think we get to define this for ourselves. Same as we would get to define happiness for ourselves.

<title>EP4 - Worst First Day On The Job</title>
<description>Today's is all about failure, and why it's not the end of the world. As much as we hate to admit it, we all fail at something at some point in our lives. It's not a pleasant feeling, but it's also not the end of the world.
I share a personal story about my own experience with failure and how it led me to discover new opportunities and grow in ways I never imagined. Instead of dwelling on the negative, I turned my energy into something positive and learned from the experience.
In this episode, I talk about the importance of reframing failure, and how it can actually be a valuable learning experience. Failure can teach us valuable lessons about ourselves and our approach to challenges.
I also discuss how failure is a necessary step on the road to success. We often hear stories of successful people who have failed numerous times before finally achieving their goals. Failure is not a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of bravery and perseverance.
Thanks for tuning in to this episode of Longwinded By Nature. I hope this episode has encouraged you to view failure in a new light. Remember, it's not the end of the world, but rather an opportunity to learn and grow.

<title>EP2 - When Your Appendix Bursts And You Go To The Wrong Hospital</title>
      <description>The power of saying no.
I've always been the type of person who wants to say yes to every opportunity that comes my way, but I've learned that saying no can be just as important, if not more so. In this episode, I'm sharing some personal stories and insights into why saying no can be a game-changer, and how it can help you focus on what really matters.
First up, I'm talking about a time when I said yes to everything, and it ended up being a huge mistake. I was trying to please everyone and ended up burning out, feeling frustrated, and not getting anywhere. I realized that I needed to start saying no to some things so that I could focus on what was important and do it well.
I also discuss how saying no can lead to unexpected opportunities. When you turn down something that's not quite right for you, it can open up space for something that is a perfect fit. I share some personal examples of how saying no has led to some of the best experiences of my life, and how it can work for you too.
Finally, I'm talking about the power of boundaries and how saying no can help you set them. When you know your limits and what you're willing to accept, you can create a healthier work-life balance, have more time for the things you love, and be more productive in the long run.
So, if you're feeling overwhelmed or like you're spreading yourself too thin, it's time to start saying no. In this episode, I share why it's important, how it's worked for me, and how it can work for you too.
