<title>It’s Okay If… Permission Slips for Mental Health, Self-Acceptance, and Growth</title>
    <language>en</language>
    <copyright>Copyright 2026 Matt Gilhooly</copyright>
<description>What if you didn’t need to have it all figured out?

It’s Okay If… is your weekly permission slip to be human.

I created this short-form podcast as part of my own healing process — a way to slow down, process grief, and reconnect with what I was feeling.

Each bite-sized episode (just 3 minutes or less) offers a short, honest reflection to challenge perfectionism, embrace your real self, and remind you that you're not alone.

Hosted by Matt Gilhooly, creator of The Life Shift Podcast, this show delivers midday nudges of self-acceptance, insight, and calm – whether you're walking the dog, stuck in traffic, or just need a breath.

No fluff. No fixing. Just a moment of truth.

New episodes every Wednesday at noon. Follow wherever you get your podcasts.</description>

<title>It's Okay to Want More: Ditching Guilt for Growth</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/its-okay-to-want-more-ditching-guilt-for-growth</link>
<description>It's okay if you feel guilty for wanting more. In this episode, we dive deep into the conflict many of us face when our aspirations push against feelings of gratitude for what we currently have. I share my own journey of grappling with the desire for something different and more meaningful, even when I was in what most would consider a good job. The truth is, wanting more doesn't make us ungrateful; it simply reflects our humanity and our growth. We can appreciate our current situation while still yearning for what’s next, and it's perfectly fine to give ourselves permission to want more without guilt or apology. So, if you’re feeling that pull today, remember: it's okay to embrace that desire and honor your journey of becoming.
Takeaways:

It's completely normal to feel guilty for wanting more in life and growth.

Desiring more doesn't mean you're ungrateful; it simply reflects your humanity and aspirations.

You can appreciate your current situation while still yearning for future opportunities.

Holding gratitude and desire simultaneously is possible; they can coexist without conflict.

Wanting more is an act of honoring your personal growth and ongoing journey.

It's important to give yourself permission to want more without feeling guilty or selfish.

<title>Permission to Take Up Space: Embrace Your Voice</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/permission-to-take-up-space-embrace-your-voice</link>
<description>It's okay if you're still learning to take up space, and that's the heart of today's conversation. I want to share my journey of moving from a place where I felt the need to stay small to one where I've embraced the value of my voice and presence. For a long time, I believed that not taking up too much air was the right way to go, but I've realized that staying small comes at a cost—it quiets our ideas and diminishes our worth. Through my experience hosting the Life Shift podcast, I've learned that taking up space is not just about being loud; it's about being authentic and allowing ourselves to be heard. So, if you’ve ever felt like you’re meant for more but are held back, let this episode be a gentle reminder that your voice matters and you have permission to take up space.
Takeaways:

It's completely okay to still be learning how to take up space in life.

Staying small can have a significant cost, affecting how we value our ideas.

Podcasting helped me learn to hold space for myself and embrace my own voice.

Taking up space is a practice we can build into our everyday lives and routines.

Everyone should remind themselves that their voice and presence truly matter in any situation.

Giving yourself permission to take up space can transform how you engage with others.

<title>Embrace the Mess: Permission to Practice Presence</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/embrace-the-mess-permission-to-practice-presence</link>
<description>It's totally okay if you're struggling with being present; in fact, that's the main point we're diving into today. Practicing presence can be a messy journey. Our minds often jump to what’s next on our to-do lists or replay moments from the past, making it tough to stay focused on the here and now. I’ve been there too, wanting to stay engaged but finding my mind wandering. The key takeaway? Being present is not about perfection; it's about the gentle act of returning to the moment, and it’s perfectly fine if it feels messy along the way. So, let’s give ourselves permission to embrace this practice together, no judgment attached.
Takeaways:

Being present is a challenging practice that requires patience and understanding.

It's completely normal to find your mind wandering to the past or future during moments.

Embracing the messiness of practicing presence is part of the journey toward mindfulness.

Remember that presence isn't about perfection; it's about consistently returning to the moment.

Acknowledging when you’re not present is a vital step in the practice of mindfulness.

Allowing yourself to be imperfect while practicing presence is essential for personal growth.

<title>Your Personal Permission Slip: Be the Version of You That Fits the Moment</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/your-personal-permission-slip-be-the-version-of-you-that-fits-the-moment</link>
<description>It’s perfectly okay to be different around different people, and that’s the main point we dive into today. We often hear about the importance of authenticity and being our true selves, but the reality is that we naturally showcase different sides of ourselves depending on the company we’re in. That doesn’t make us fake; it makes us human. I share my experience of how the version of me that records this podcast is just one facet of who I am, and when I’m with friends or family, other parts of me come to life. So, if you’re feeling pressured to be the same person in every situation, let that worry go. You’re allowed to be multifaceted, and we give you permission to show up as the version of yourself that feels right in each moment.
Takeaways:

It's perfectly okay to express different parts of ourselves in various relationships, it makes us human.

We often hear about authenticity, but it's natural to adapt to our surroundings and dynamics.

Being multifaceted is a strength, and we should embrace showing up differently with different people.

Giving ourselves permission to be fluid in our identities can lead to richer connections with others.

It's important to recognize that adapting our behavior doesn't mean we're being fake or inauthentic.

Remember to give yourself a mental 'permission slip' to be the best version of yourself in every situation.

<title>Your Permission to Search for What Feels Like Home</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/your-permission-to-search-for-what-feels-like-home</link>
<description>It’s perfectly okay if you’re still figuring out what feels like home. In this episode, we dive into the idea that home isn’t always a physical place; sometimes it’s a feeling, a person, or even a community. I share my own experiences of feeling unrooted, even when everything seemed settled on the outside. We discuss how home is more about alignment and acceptance than just ticking boxes. It’s a journey, and if you’re in the middle of that search, remember that you have the right to take your time. So, let’s give ourselves permission to keep exploring what truly makes us feel at home.
Takeaways:

It's completely normal to still be figuring out what home truly means for you.

Home can be more than just a physical location; it can be a feeling or a connection.

Sometimes we find ourselves searching for belonging in new places or relationships.

It's important to give yourself permission to explore and take your time finding home.

Remember, there's no deadline on feeling like you belong somewhere or with someone.

Accept that it's okay to be in the middle of your search for home.

<itunes:summary>It’s perfectly okay if you’re still figuring out what feels like home.

<title>Sick of Self-Improvement? Here’s Your Permission Slip to Just Be</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/sick-of-self-improvement-heres-your-permission-slip-to-just-be</link>
<description>It's perfectly okay to feel tired of the endless cycle of self-improvement, and that's what we're diving into today. We live in a world that constantly pushes us to optimize ourselves, always chasing that elusive better version. While growth is important, it shouldn't feel like an exhausting project where we're forever fixing ourselves. I’ve been there, caught up in the hustle of always needing to learn something new or build a new habit, and in the process, I lost sight of just being me. So, if you're feeling worn out from the self-improvement treadmill, remember that it’s totally fine to step off and just exist for a while. Give yourself that permission; you are enough just as you are today.
Takeaways:

It's perfectly okay to take a break from the endless cycle of self-improvement and just be yourself.

In a world obsessed with optimization, we often forget the importance of simply existing as we are.

Growth should be a personal journey, not a race; embrace where you are right now, flaws and all.

Remember, you don't always have to strive for the next version of yourself; resting is also a form of self-care.

Feeling tired of the self-improvement grind? It's totally fine to step off that treadmill and breathe for a while.

Give yourself permission to rest; you are enough just as you are today, without any upgrades.

<title>Permission to Pivot: Discovering New Paths in Life</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/permission-to-pivot-discovering-new-paths-in-life</link>
<description>It's totally okay if you're building a life you didn't plan for. We often grow up with a vision of how our lives should unfold—specific milestones and a clear roadmap. But the reality is, life can take unexpected turns, and sometimes we find ourselves in places we never anticipated. In this episode, I reflect on how I ended up hosting The Life Shift podcast, which started as a passion project but became something so much more meaningful. If you're feeling like your life has taken a detour, remember that this isn't a sign of failure; it's a chance for growth. So go ahead and give yourself permission to embrace the surprises life throws your way—who knows, it might just lead you to something even better than you imagined.
Takeaways:

It's completely okay to navigate a life that doesn't align with your original plans; we can embrace the unexpected.

Growing up, many of us have a clear picture of where we want to be, but life often takes us on a different path.

Embracing detours in life can lead to discovering new aspects of ourselves that were previously unknown.

You have permission to create a life that feels authentic to you, even if it surprises you.

Recognizing that your current situation may be better than your original vision is a powerful realization.

Ultimately, giving ourselves permission to reshape our lives is a key step towards personal growth and fulfillment.

<title>Embracing Uncertainty: It's Okay to Not Have All the Answers</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/embracing-uncertainty-its-okay-to-not-have-all-the-answers</link>
<description>Sometimes, it's just okay not to have all the answers when it comes to self-care. Feeling off or disconnected is a normal part of the process. We often hear that we should listen to our bodies and tune in to what we need, but what happens when there’s just static or fog? It can be frustrating when you can’t pinpoint what would make you feel better, but I want to remind you that not knowing is part of being human. So, if you’re in that space right now, take a deep breath and give yourself the permission to simply be.
Takeaways:

It's perfectly fine to not always know what you need for self-care.

Sometimes, the best approach is to pause and give yourself space to breathe.

Feeling off without clarity about the cause is a normal part of being human.

You’re not failing at self-awareness; you’re simply experiencing the complexity of life.

Clarity often emerges in moments of quiet reflection, not when we force it.

We all need to give ourselves permission to not have all the answers sometimes.

      <title>Feeling Overwhelmed? Here’s Your Permission Slip</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/feeling-overwhelmed-heres-your-permission-slip</link>
<description>It's totally okay if you feel like you're not doing enough, even when you actually are. Today we're diving into that nagging voice we all have that insists we should be doing more. It’s exhausting to carry the weight of expectations that tie our self-worth to our output. I’ve been there, juggling responsibilities and still hearing that inner critic saying, "That’s not enough." But here’s the thing: enough isn’t a finish line; it's a feeling, and it’s important to recognize when you’ve done your part. So, if you’re feeling that pressure today, I’m giving you permission to trust that what you’re doing is enough, and you don’t have to earn your worth.
Takeaways:

It's totally fine to feel like you're not doing enough, even when you are.

Recognizing that enough is a feeling, not a destination, can be freeing.

We often internalize pressures that link our self-worth to how much we produce.

It's important to give ourselves permission to trust that what we do is enough.

<title>Permission to Be Proud: Recognizing Your Own Achievements</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/permission-to-be-proud-recognizing-your-own-achievements</link>
<description>We’re diving into the idea that it’s totally okay to feel proud of ourselves, even when no one else is cheering us on. We often find ourselves in a cycle of seeking validation from others—likes, promotions, and applause can feel so crucial. But let’s face it, some of our most significant victories happen in silence and deserve recognition just as much. I share personal milestones that went unnoticed but meant the world to me, like conquering a challenging podcast edit or setting a crucial boundary for my well-being. So today, let’s embrace the notion that our self-recognition matters, and I encourage you to give yourself permission to be proud, regardless of external validation.
Takeaways:

It's completely okay to feel proud of your achievements, even if nobody else notices. Recognition from others isn't always necessary for personal validation.

Many of our important milestones occur quietly and without any fanfare, yet they still deserve our acknowledgment and celebration.

Chasing external validation like likes and applause can distract us from appreciating our own personal victories; we need to honor our own achievements.

Setting boundaries for your mental peace is a significant achievement, even if it goes unnoticed by others; prioritize your well-being above all.

<title>Permission Granted: You Don't Have to Be Creative Today</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/permission-granted-you-dont-have-to-be-creative-today</link>
<description>Creativity has its seasons, and that’s the main takeaway we’re diving into today. It’s perfectly okay if you’re not feeling creative right now; we’ve all been there. As creators, whether we’re making podcasts, art, or any kind of content, we often put pressure on ourselves to be constantly producing new ideas. But sometimes, the well runs dry, and that’s when self-judgment creeps in, leading us to think we’re slacking off. Instead, we should embrace those quieter moments as essential parts of the creative process, where resting and recharging can actually fuel our next burst of inspiration. So, if you're feeling a bit uninspired today, let’s give ourselves permission to just be and acknowledge that rest is just as crucial as creativity itself.
Takeaways:

Creativity isn't always a constant; it has its ups and downs, and that's totally normal.

It's perfectly okay to have days where you don't feel creative at all, so don't stress about it.

Trusting the quiet moments can often lead to new ideas simmering beneath the surface.

Resting and recharging is an essential part of the creative process, so embrace it.

Don't force creativity; allow yourself to just be and take a break when needed.

Remember to give yourself permission to not feel creative today and honor that space.

<title>It's Okay to Be a Work in Progress: Embracing Your Emotions</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/its-okay-to-be-a-work-in-progress-embracing-your-emotions</link>
<description>Healing does not follow a timeline, and it's completely okay if you're still grappling with feelings that you thought would be long gone by now. In this episode, we dive into the reality that emotions don’t come with expiration dates or neat finish lines. Whether it’s grief, a breakup, or any kind of lingering regret, it's important to acknowledge that these feelings are part of being human. We can often be our harshest critics, thinking we should be "over it" by now, but the truth is, some experiences are meant to be carried differently as we grow. So, if you’re feeling stuck, remember that you’re allowed to be exactly where you are in your healing process, and I encourage you to give yourself permission to still be healing.
Takeaways:

Healing is a personal journey, and it doesn’t follow a strict timeline or schedule.

It's perfectly okay to still be processing emotions that don’t seem to go away.

We should allow ourselves to feel our emotions without the pressure to move on quickly.

Sometimes, we need to carry our experiences differently as we grow, rather than getting over them.

      <title>Navigating the Seasonal Blues: You’re Not Alone</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/navigating-the-seasonal-blues-youre-not-alone</link>
<description>It's totally okay to feel a little off when the seasons change, and that's the main point we dive into today. I used to think it was just me who got that weird sense of unease as the weather shifts, but it turns out a lot of us feel it. We discuss how our bodies are deeply connected to the world around us, and how changes in light and temperature can really impact our mood and energy. Instead of pushing through and expecting ourselves to keep up the same pace, we encourage you to embrace a gentler approach. So, if you’re feeling a bit out of sorts today, remember: you have permission to move a little slower and be kinder to yourself.
Takeaways:

It's completely normal to feel a bit off when the seasons change around us.

Many of us experience shifts in our energy and mood with changing weather patterns.

Rather than forcing ourselves to maintain productivity, it's okay to slow down and adapt.

We should acknowledge our human connection to the world, especially during seasonal shifts.

Feeling off is not always sadness; it can just be a natural response to change.

Giving ourselves permission to feel and move at our own pace can be very liberating.

<title>Permission Granted: It's Okay to Crave Simpler Days</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/permission-granted-its-okay-to-crave-simpler-days</link>
<description>It's totally okay to long for simpler times without actually wanting to rewind the clock. We dive into this idea that missing the days before smartphones and endless notifications doesn’t mean we’re stuck; it’s more about recognizing what our souls are craving. I chat about the beauty of simplicity and how creating just for kicks used to be the norm, not some guilty pleasure. We’re all feeling the weight of complexity these days, and that longing for a chill vibe is a sign we’re paying attention to what we really need. So, I give you this permission slip: embrace that desire for simplicity and find ways to weave it into your life now.
Takeaways:

It's totally fine to miss simpler times while still moving forward in life, folks.

Longing for simplicity is a sign of growth, not a sign of regression, my friends.

Embracing simplicity in our lives can help reclaim focus and presence amidst chaos.

Recognizing our cravings for simplicity is an opportunity to create more peace in our daily routines.

<title>It's Okay to Not Feel Grateful Today</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/its-okay-to-not-feel-grateful-today</link>
<description>Sometimes, it’s just not easy to feel grateful, and that’s totally okay. Gratitude isn’t always accessible, especially when life feels heavy or you’re running on empty. We’re unpacking how that guilt creeps in when we think we should be thankful, but the truth is, it’s perfectly fine to acknowledge that you’re not feeling it right now. We’re giving you a permission slip to sit with your feelings, even if they don’t include gratitude. So, take a breath, release that guilt, and let’s embrace where we’re at today.
Takeaways:

It's completely okay to not feel gratitude all the time; you're human, not broken.

Gratitude can shift our perspective, but it shouldn't be forced when you're not feeling it.

When gratitude feels out of reach, it's important to give yourself permission to feel your emotions.

Releasing guilt around not being grateful is crucial for emotional well-being and self-acceptance.

Acknowledging that some days are heavier than others helps in recognizing our emotional bandwidth.

Remember, gratitude will come back to you when you're ready, no need to rush it.

<title>Feeling Regret? Here’s Your Permission Slip to Move Forward</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/feeling-regret-heres-your-permission-slip-to-move-forward</link>
<description>It's totally okay to regret a past version of yourself, and that's the big takeaway from our chat today. We’re often told to let go of regrets, but let’s keep it real—sometimes, those feelings can actually help us grow. I’ve had my fair share of moments where I wish I’d handled things differently, whether it was staying silent when I should’ve spoken up or choosing fear over authenticity. But here’s the kicker: regret isn’t the enemy; it’s just a sign of growth and reflection. So, if you’re feeling that weight today, give yourself some grace—embrace it, learn from it, and know that you can still love who you’re becoming while acknowledging who you were.
Takeaways:

It's completely normal to look back and feel regret about past choices we made.

Regret serves as a guide for our growth, helping us understand how we've evolved.

Embracing regret doesn't mean we dwell on it; it’s about learning and moving forward.

We can hold both regret for our past and love for our present self simultaneously.

<title>You’re Only Human: Permission to Not Crush It Every Day</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/youre-only-human-permission-to-not-crush-it-every-day</link>
<description>It's totally okay if you don't feel motivated today; that’s the main vibe we’re laying down in this chat. I mean, who decided that every single day has to be a hustle? Some days, motivation doesn’t show up, and that’s perfectly human. We dive into how it’s okay to take a step back, have those slow days, and not tie your self-worth to your productivity. So, if you’re feeling a bit off, remember to give yourself that permission slip to chill and take it easy. Your worth isn’t riding on how much you get done, and we’re here to remind you of that.
Takeaways:

It's totally cool if you're not feeling motivated today; that's just part of being human.

We all have those days where energy is low, and the to-do list feels overwhelming, and that's perfectly fine.

Permission slips are a thing; we can choose to take a slow day and chill without guilt.

Your productivity levels don't determine your worth; you're allowed to have off days without feeling bad about it.

<title>Feeling Numb Instead of Sad? It's Okay If You Need the Pause</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/ep-35</link>
<description>We often talk about grief, sadness, or anxiety – but what about numbness? That quiet, disconnected feeling where everything feels flat and nothing really lands.
This short reflection reminds you that numbness isn’t a flaw. It’s a signal. A pause. A way your body and mind protect you when things are too much to process fully. Feeling numb doesn’t mean you’re broken – it means you’re human.
You’re allowed to honor that space without rushing through it. You can feel what you feel — or not – and still be okay.

<title>Questioning Traditional Gender Roles? It's Okay If You Redefine What Fits</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/ep-34</link>
<description>So many of us were handed quiet scripts about how we’re supposed to be — based on gender, tradition, or outdated expectations. Be tough. Be agreeable. Be a provider. Be selfless. Achieve success in a particular way.
This short reflection reminds you that questioning those roles isn’t rebellion — it’s self-discovery. You’re allowed to unlearn the rules that never felt true. You’re allowed to explore softness, vulnerability, creativity, and your own definitions of what it means to be whole.
There’s no one way to be enough. You get to decide what fits you now.

<title>Want to Start Over Again? It's Okay If You Redefine Yourself</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/ep-33</link>
<description>There’s so much pressure to get it right the first time — to choose the perfect path, the ideal role, the perfect plan, and stick to it. But life doesn’t work like that. And neither do we.
This short reflection reminds you that starting over isn’t failure. It is growth. It’s clarity. It’s self-awareness. Whether it’s your career, your relationships, your creativity, or your identity — you’re allowed to pivot, begin again, and rewrite the story as many times as you need.
You’re not behind. You’re evolving. And you’re allowed to start over.

<title>Outgrowing a Relationship That Once Felt Like Home? It's Okay If You Let Go</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/ep-32</link>
<description>Some relationships feel like home – until they don’t. And when you’ve tied them to someone you’ve lost or to a version of yourself you used to be, letting go can feel confusing, disloyal, or even impossible.
This short reflection is a reminder that outgrowing a relationship doesn’t erase its meaning. You can honor the past while still choosing what’s right for you now. Letting go isn’t cold or ungrateful – it’s often one of the bravest, kindest things you can do for yourself.
You’re allowed to outgrow what no longer fits. Even if it once mattered deeply.

<title>Want to Take a Break from Your Dreams? It's Okay If You Need to Rest</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/ep-31</link>
<description>Hustle culture tells us never to stop – to keep chasing, building, and pushing no matter what. But even the things we love can become heavy when we’re burned out. And sometimes the most honest thing we can do is take a break.
This short reflection reminds you that resting doesn’t mean quitting. Stepping back from your dreams doesn’t mean you’re giving up – it means you’re honoring your capacity, trusting your timing, and giving yourself space to breathe.
You can come back when you’re ready. For now, it’s okay to pause.

<title>Wondering If You’re Doing Life Wrong? It's Okay If You Question Your Path</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/ep-30</link>
<description>That quiet voice that whispers, “Am I behind? Did I mess this up?” It shows up for more of us than we think, especially when life doesn’t follow the expected timeline or look the way we imagined.
This short reflection is a reminder that there’s no single way to do life. No perfect pace. No universal checklist. You’re not too late, and you’re not failing — you’re just finding your way.
If you’ve ever questioned your progress, this is your permission to let go of the pressure and trust your own timing.

<title>Can’t Keep Up with Everyone Else’s Joy? It's Okay If You Need Space</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/ep-29</link>
<description>When your feed is full of celebrations — new jobs, babies, milestones, engagements – it can feel like everyone else is moving forward while you're just trying to stay upright. And even when you're genuinely happy for others, holding their joy can feel heavy when you're in a harder season.
This short reflection reminds you that it's okay to step back. You don't have to force smiles or fake enthusiasm. You're allowed to honor where you are, even if it's not a place of celebration.
Joy will return – but in the meantime, you can protect your peace.

<title>Tired of Caring So Much? It's Okay If You Need a Break</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/ep-28</link>
<description>If you’re someone who feels deeply, stays informed, holds space for others, and tries to care about the world, you know how heavy that can get. Compassion fatigue is real. And sometimes, your heart just needs a break.
This short reflection reminds you that it’s okay to feel worn out from caring. It doesn’t mean you’re cold or selfish. It means you’re human. You’re allowed to rest your empathy muscles and protect your own well-being.
You’ll come back to it when you’re ready. But for today, you can set it down.

<title>Need a Hall Pass Today? It's Okay If You Step Away for a Bit</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/ep-27</link>
<description>Remember those slips of paper in school that let you step out of class without question? Sometimes, as adults, we still need that same kind of permission — to pause, to disengage, to take a breath.
This short reflection invites you to give yourself a hall pass. Not because something’s wrong. Not because you need an excuse. Just because your capacity is low, your well-being matters.
You’re allowed to step out of the noise, even if just for today. No questions asked.

<title>Need to Dream Small Right Now? It's Okay If That’s What Fits</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/need-to-dream-small-right-now-its-okay-if-thats-what-fits</link>
<description>In a world that glorifies big goals and five-year plans, it can feel like you’re falling short if you’re not constantly reaching for something massive.
But not every dream has to be bold, loud, or scalable to matter.
This short reflection invites you to embrace the beauty of small dreams – the kind that fit your life right now.
The kind that don’t demand more than you have to give.
The kind that feel soft, doable, and deeply personal.
Dreaming small isn’t settling.

<title>Grieving Who You Could Have Been? It's Okay If That Loss Feels Real</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/grieving-who-you-could-have-been-its-okay-if-that-loss-feels-real</link>
<description>Grief isn’t always about what we’ve had and lost – sometimes, it’s about what we never got to have. The versions of ourselves that didn’t get to grow.
The lives we might have lived under different circumstances.
This short reflection explores the quiet ache of wondering who you could have been – if a relationship had lasted, if a dream had taken root, if life had unfolded differently.
It’s the kind of grief that’s often invisible, but deeply valid.
You’re allowed to feel that loss.
You’re allowed to grieve the you that never came to be – without shame, and without apology.

<title>Haven’t Done the Work Yet? It's Okay If You’re Still Figuring Things Out</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/havent-done-the-work-yet-its-okay-if-youre-still-figuring-things-out</link>
<description>When it comes to healing, therapy, or personal growth, it’s easy to feel like you’re behind – like everyone else has done the work and you’re still just trying to start.
But here’s the truth: there’s no set timeline for becoming your most whole self.
This short reflection reminds us that being in process doesn’t mean you’re failing.
You don’t have to have it all figured out.
You’re allowed to be messy, incomplete, and still worthy.
Wherever you are on your journey – just beginning, pausing, or circling back – this is your permission to be right where you are.

<title>Feel Guilty for Wanting More? It's Okay If You Still Crave Something Deeper</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/feel-guilty-for-wanting-more-its-okay-if-you-still-crave-something-deeper</link>
<description>Sometimes life looks good on paper – steady job, supportive community, meaningful work – and yet something in you still aches for more.
More creativity.
More alignment.
More connection.
And along with that desire often comes guilt.
This short reflection is a reminder that wanting more doesn’t make you ungrateful.
It means you’re alive.
It means you’re paying attention to what still matters to you.
You’re allowed to honor what you have and still reach for what’s next – without apology, and without guilt.

      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/need-to-unfollow-unfriend-or-unplug-its-okay-if-you-step-back</link>
<description>Sometimes, the scroll gets too loud. The opinions, the highlights, the endless noise – it can overwhelm your system before you even notice it’s happening. And even when your mind says, “just deal with it,” your body often knows better.
This short reflection is a reminder that it’s okay to set boundaries with your digital world.
You’re allowed to unfollow accounts that drain you.
You’re allowed to unfriend people you no longer have capacity for.
You’re allowed to unplug without apology.
If your heart or nervous system is saying “enough,” you’re allowed to listen.

      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/just-trying-to-get-through-today-its-okay-if-thats-all-you-can-do</link>
<description>Some days aren’t meant for progress or productivity – they’re meant for surviving. Whether you're processing loss, holding emotional weight, or just feeling the heaviness of it all, it’s okay if all you can do is make it through.
This short reflection is a gentle reminder that getting through the day is enough.
You don’t need to be “on.”
You don’t need to be productive.
You don’t need to carry more than you have the strength for.
You’re allowed to rest, to feel, to move slowly.
Today doesn’t have to be anything more than that.

<title>Don’t Know How to Celebrate Yourself? It's Okay If It Feels Uncomfortable</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/dont-know-how-to-celebrate-yourself-its-okay-if-it-feels-uncomfortable</link>
<description>Celebrating others often comes naturally. But when it comes to our own wins – even the big ones – we tend to downplay them, skip over them, or move straight to the next task on the list.
This short reflection explores why it can feel awkward or even selfish to celebrate ourselves – and why it’s still worth doing.
Acknowledging your growth, your effort, and your resilience isn’t arrogance.
It’s self-recognition.
And it matters.
If you’ve ever struggled to pause and say, “I did that,” this is your permission slip to try – even if it feels uncomfortable.

<itunes:summary>Celebrating others often comes naturally.

<title>Keep Changing Your Mind? It's Okay If You Pivot Again</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/keep-changing-your-mind-its-okay-if-you-pivot-again</link>
<description>There’s a lot of pressure to stick to one path, to commit and never waver. But what if changing your mind isn’t a sign of weakness – what if it’s a sign you’re listening to yourself?
This short reflection explores what it means to pivot, start over, circle back, and shift directions without shame.
You’re not flaky.
You’re not failing.
You’re evolving.
You don’t need to have one perfect path. You’re allowed to change your mind – more than once – and still trust that you’re becoming who you need to be.

<title>Want to Let Go of What You Built? It's Okay If It No Longer Fits</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/want-to-let-go-of-what-you-built-its-okay-if-it-no-longer-fits</link>
<description>Letting go of something you poured your heart into – a job, a relationship, a project, a version of yourself – can feel like betrayal. But sometimes, what once fit perfectly no longer feels like yours to carry.
This short reflection reminds us that releasing something doesn’t erase its worth.
The effort mattered.
The time mattered.
And choosing to let go doesn’t mean you failed – it means you’re growing.
If you feel that quiet nudge today, this is your permission slip to honor what you built and still choose to move forward.

<title>Feel Like You’re Falling Behind? It's Okay If Your Pace Looks Different</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/feel-like-youre-falling-behind-its-okay-if-your-pace-looks-different</link>
<description>When everyone else seems to be moving faster – checking boxes, hitting milestones, and living picture-perfect lives – it’s easy to feel like you’re falling behind.
But that feeling isn’t always the truth.
This short reflection is a reminder that there is no universal timeline. There’s no race. And the invisible checklists the world hands us? You don’t have to follow them.
You’re allowed to move at your own pace – even if it looks slower, even if it looks different.
You’re not behind.
You’re becoming.

<title>Don't Want to Be the Strong One Today? It's Okay If You Let Go</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/dont-want-to-be-the-strong-one-today-its-okay-if-you-let-go</link>
<description>Being the strong one can become a role you never asked for – the dependable one, the steady one, the one who keeps it together no matter what.
But what happens when you're exhausted from carrying that weight?
This short reflection is a gentle reminder that strength doesn’t always look like holding it all. Sometimes, it looks like stepping back, being honest about your limits, and letting yourself be soft.
You don’t have to prove anything today.
You’re allowed to rest.
You’re allowed to be held.
You’re allowed to not be the strong one – even just for now.

<title>Love Something That Doesn’t Make Money? It's Okay If You Do</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/love-something-that-doesnt-make-money-its-okay-if-you-do</link>
<description>In a world that often equates value with income, it can feel uncomfortable to pour your heart into something that doesn’t turn a profit. But some of the most meaningful parts of our lives aren’t monetized – and they don’t have to be.
This short reflection is a reminder that passion doesn’t need a paycheck. Whether it’s a creative outlet, a quiet ritual, or something you simply love doing, it doesn’t have to make money to be worthwhile.
You’re allowed to love what you love – for joy, for meaning, for you.

      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/feel-lonely-even-when-youre-not-alone-its-okay-if-you-do</link>
<description>Loneliness doesn’t always look like isolation. Sometimes, it shows up in the middle of conversations – in a full room, during meaningful work, even when you’re surrounded by people.
This short reflection explores the ache that comes from being present for others while feeling unseen yourself.
When you're the one holding space, listening deeply, showing up – but no one’s holding space for you in return – that loneliness is real.
You’re not wrong for feeling disconnected in the middle of connection.
You’re not broken.
You’re human.
And you’re allowed to feel lonely, even if everything on the outside looks fine.

<title>Keep Telling the Same Story? It's Okay If You’re Still Processing</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/keep-telling-the-same-story-its-okay-if-youre-still-processing</link>
<description>Some stories rise up again and again. You tell them in conversations, in quiet moments, or when something unexpectedly brings them back. And maybe you wonder – shouldn’t I be past this by now?
This short reflection offers a gentle reminder: repetition doesn’t mean you’re stuck. It means you’re still making meaning.
Telling the same story is one way our minds and hearts process what we’ve been through.
It’s how we soften the edges of something that once felt unbearable.
You don’t need to rush your healing or silence your story. You can keep telling it – until it tells you something new.

<title>Want to Quit but Don’t Know What’s Next? It's Okay If You Feel Stuck</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/want-to-quit-but-dont-know-whats-next-its-okay-if-you-feel-stuck</link>
<description>Sometimes, the hardest part isn’t knowing that something isn’t working – it’s not knowing what to do next. You might feel the urge to walk away from a job, a routine, or a version of your life that no longer fits. But without a clear path forward, it’s easy to stay frozen in place.
This short reflection offers a quiet reminder: wanting to quit doesn’t make you ungrateful or lost. It means you’re listening to something deeper.
And even if you don’t have the next step mapped out, you’re still allowed to want something different.
It’s okay if you’re not ready to leap.
Naming the discomfort is a brave first step.

<title>Still Miss Who You Were Before It All Changed? It's Okay If You Do</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/still-miss-who-you-were-before-it-all-changed-its-okay-if-you-do</link>
<description>We all have a “before” – a version of ourselves that existed before the loss, before the diagnosis, before the breakup, before the shift.
And sometimes, we miss that version of ourselves more than we know how to say.
This short reflection is a reminder that it’s okay to feel that longing. Missing who you were before everything changed doesn’t mean you’re broken or not moving forward. It simply means you remember.
You’re allowed to hold love for who you used to be and compassion for who you are now.
Missing your old self is part of honoring the life you’ve lived — and the one you’re still becoming.

<title>Need to Do Nothing for a While? It's Okay If You Just Rest</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/need-to-do-nothing-for-a-while-its-okay-if-you-just-rest</link>
<description>Doing nothing can feel uncomfortable – especially when you care deeply about your work, your goals, or the people you're showing up for. But sometimes, pushing through becomes too much.
This short reflection is a reminder that rest isn’t laziness.
Taking a break isn’t a failure.
Pausing doesn’t mean you’ve given up – it means you’re listening to what you need.
If you’re feeling the weight of burnout, this is your permission slip to stop producing for a moment, to let things breathe, and to remember that stillness is its own kind of strength.

<title>Jealous of Someone Else's Joy? It's Okay If You Feel That Way</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/jealous-of-someone-elses-joy-its-okay-if-you-feel-that-way</link>
<description>Jealousy can feel uncomfortable – even shameful. But it's also human. You might feel it when someone else gets the opportunity you’ve been dreaming of, or when their joy highlights something you still deeply want.
This short reflection offers a compassionate reminder: jealousy doesn’t make you bad or ungrateful.
It often points to a dream or desire within you that still matters.
Instead of pushing the feeling away or layering it with guilt, this episode invites you to notice it, name it, and let it move through without judgment.
You're allowed to feel jealous and still be kind to yourself.

<title>Don't Have the Words for What You Feel? It's Okay If You Can't Name It Yet</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/dont-have-the-words-for-what-you-feel-its-okay-if-you-cant-name-it-yet</link>
<description>Some feelings show up without warning – and without a name. You’re not sad, not exactly anxious, not even sure what’s wrong… but something feels off. And when you can’t explain it, the urge to fix it gets louder.
This short reflection is a reminder that not every emotion needs a label. Not every ache needs to be solved right away. Sometimes, the kindest thing you can do is feel it – even if you don’t understand it yet.
If you’ve ever woken up heavy for no clear reason, this is your permission slip to stop searching for the perfect words and just let the feeling be.

<title>Can't Hold It All Together Today? It's Okay If You Need to Fall Apart</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/cant-hold-it-all-together-today-its-okay-if-you-need-to-fall-apart</link>
<description>There are days when holding it all together just isn’t possible. And despite what we’ve been taught – to push through, to stay strong, to keep showing up – sometimes the bravest thing we can do is let ourselves break.
If you're carrying grief, burnout, or just too much of everything, this short reflection is your reminder that falling apart doesn’t make you weak. It makes you human.
You don’t have to be the strong one all the time. You don’t have to keep it all together today. You’re allowed to set something down – even just for now – and let that be enough.

<title>Not as Productive as You Used to Be? It's Okay If You Need to Slow Down</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/not-as-productive-as-you-used-to-be-its-okay-if-you-need-to-slow-down</link>
<description>We live in a world that celebrates hustle – where being busy is often mistaken for being worthy. But what happens when your body, your mind, or your spirit asks you to slow down?
If your energy isn’t what it used to be, or if your to-do list feels more like pressure than purpose, that’s not failure.
It’s feedback.
This short reflection is a gentle reminder that rest counts. Presence counts. You don’t have to produce to prove your value. Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is stop and breathe.
You’re allowed to be.
That’s enough.

<title>Thought You Were Over It and You're Not? It's Okay If It Still Hurts</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/thought-you-were-over-it-and-youre-not-its-okay-if-it-still-hurts</link>
<description>Healing isn’t linear. Just when you think you’ve moved on – from heartbreak, betrayal, or someone who broke your trust – something small can bring it all back. A song, a post, a memory. And suddenly you're asking yourself, “Why does this still hurt?”
That doesn't mean you’re broken.
It means you cared.
It means you trusted.
And it hurt.
This short reflection reminds us that healing has no perfect timeline. Even if it’s been months or years, it’s okay if the sting still shows up. It doesn’t mean you’re stuck – it means you’re still healing.
If an old wound is still lingering, this is your permission slip to feel it without shame, to honor the ache without rushing it away.

<title>Outgrowing Who You Used to Be? It's Okay If You Have</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/outgrowing-who-you-used-to-be-its-okay-if-you-have</link>
<description>Sometimes, the life you built no longer fits who you are becoming. The old habits, the roles you played, the way you showed up in the world – it might feel familiar, but also a little tight, a little scratchy, like a favorite sweatshirt that doesn't quite belong to you anymore.
That’s not failure. That’s growth.
This short reflection explores what it means to feel the tension between who you were and who you're becoming. It's a quiet invitation to honor your past self – the version of you that got you this far – and gently let them go.
If you’ve been feeling the itch to evolve, the tug to shift, this is your permission slip to keep growing. You don’t have to stay the same to prove your worth.

<title>Feel Like a Beginner Again? It’s Okay If You Do</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/feel-like-a-beginner-again-its-okay-if-you-do</link>
<description>Starting over is never easy. Whether you're in a new job, a new city, a new relationship, or simply facing a new season of life, there's a part of us that resists feeling new.
It whispers things like, "I should have figured this out by now," or "I shouldn't feel this lost."
But feeling like a beginner isn't failure – it's growth in disguise.
This short reflection offers a gentle reminder that the discomfort of starting over is also an invitation:
"You’re not behind – you’re becoming."If you're fumbling your way through something unfamiliar right now, you're not alone. You don't have to have it all figured out. It's okay to be new at this.

<title>Still Grieving After Years? It’s Okay If You Are</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/still-grieving-after-years-its-okay-if-you-are</link>
<description>Grief doesn’t follow neat timelines – and it doesn’t mean something’s wrong with you if it still shows up years later.
Whether it’s been a decade or just a season, grief can return in a song, a memory, a smell, or even a YouTube clip that catches you off guard. That ache isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of what mattered.
In this short reflection, we explore why grief that lingers is part of love that lasts. You’ll hear a gentle reminder that:
“Grief isn’t a problem to solve. It’s part of a love that stays.”If you’ve ever thought, “I should be over this by now,” this is your permission slip to stop trying to fix it.
It’s okay if it still aches.
It’s okay if you’re still carrying it.

      <title>Welcome to It’s Okay If… Your bite-sized permission slip for real life</title>
      <link>https://its-okay-if.captivate.fm/episode/welcome-to-its-okay-if-your-bite-sized-permission-slip-for-real-life</link>
<description>I’ve spent the last few years hosting The Life Shift Podcast, having deep conversations about the moments that change us.
But sometimes, we don’t need a full conversation. We just need a moment.
That’s what It’s Okay If… is for.
Each week, I’ll share a short reflection, usually under 3 minutes, as a kind of permission slip.

To feel what you feel.

To let something go.

To remember that being human is hard and beautiful and worth slowing down for.

I made It’s Okay If… for me.
I was grieving. I needed quiet. I needed space to feel what I’d been avoiding. And in that space, this idea showed up.
What if I could record small, honest reminders that it’s okay to be human?
So I did. I wrote and recorded 54 short episodes – each one under 3 minutes – as part of my healing journey.
And now, I want to share them with you.
New episodes drop every Wednesday at noon.
I hope they meet you where you are, like they met me where I was.
Matt
