Ep. 19: Hey, what's your routine?

Following up requires routine, remembering to write things down takes routine. Making a podcast or creating content of any type and being consistent at it takes routine. And once you find your routine, once you find a pace that works for you, you’ll start to slowly get into a groove that can help you intentionally fulfill your goals. The only thing I ask is that you be patient with yourself. Routine does not happen overnight. Sometimes it takes failing, forgetting, or even reaching a breaking point.
BOOK OF THE DAY!
The Compound Effect, by Darren Hardy
Today’s Topic?
Hey, what’s your routine?
Then it all went left:
When I first started to make it a habit of going to the gym, the first few days I was not feeling it.
So What did I learn from this?
A routine is easy to have, but finding the right routine for you takes time.
100 Commandments of Confidence:
Thou shall try again. Trying in itself takes courage. Give yourself the courage to try once more.
Follow Up Hack
If you receive a phone number, remember to confirm the phone number in your phone! Send a text or phone call so the other person can confirm the number.

This is the last episode of the season! We’ll be back in early August!

Ep. 18: Hey, do you have a meaningful career?

Having a career is great but is it meaningful? Today we’ll discuss more on what it means to have a meaningful career with my friend Tobi Shannon!

BOOK OF THE DAY!
Pleasure Activism by Adrienne Marie Brown

Today’s Topic?
Finding a career that is meaningful to you

Then it all went left:
Thinking my job was one thing and not vetting it enough, then it turned out to be another thing. The company, people, job description–everything you deal with on a daily basis is based in how you vet these three things.

So What did I learn from this?
Don’t be afraid to ask for what you need and what you want, especially for something you’ll be spending the majority of your time doing

100 Commandments of Confidence:
You deserve to live your life abundantly–and you are worthy of a career that allows you to do that.

Follow Up Hack
Sending a news article that is relevant to their business, or a reading you found interesting that they might like.

Ep. 17: Hey, whatcha listening to?

Music is a universal language that brings the world together. Today, I invited my friend Dom Savant to talk more about his music journey and how networking played a part in creating a major project where he found an independent artist in each state.

BOOK OF THE DAY!
As a Man Thinketh Book by James Allen

Then it all went left:
1- Putting different sounds together.
2- Being able to stand on your feet as a man.

What did I learn from this?
Just do it, learn from it and reflect on what could be improved the next time.

100 Commandments of Confidence:
Thou shall not bite off more than they can chew.

Follow Up Hack
Play an artist’s song, and tell them you played it. Tell them how the song made you feel, as a fan. Support the artist’s music and keep your ego out of it.

Ep. 16: Hey, how's undergrad?

Today I invited my friend Kendall Camp on the podcast to talk about how networking shaped his undergrad experience as a graduating Senior at HBCU Morehouse College.
BOOK OF THE DAY!
Why I left Goldman Sachs by: Greg Smith
Then it all went left:
My GPA being a 2.8 GPA at Morehouse and turning it to still find internships in media, tech, and VC and how I am now graduating with a 3.4 GPA
So What did I learn from this?
Grades don’t mean anything and chase things you are interested
100 Commandments of Confidence:
Why not you? Don’t take yourself out the game before getting in
Follow Up Hack
Mention things you used to enhance your life from the conversation in follow up emails and send jobs or opportunities that they may have mentioned prior to be a value add.

Ep. 15: Hey, are you ok? (Self-Reflection)

When’s the last time you’ve checked in on you? Has anything changed? Has your body or mood changed because of it? While it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of life, taking a step back to evaluate how you’re doing mentally, physically, and spiritually is also important. Self reflection is self care.

Ep. 10: Hey, I'm broke

Being broke is no joke, but even that shouldn’t stop you from networking with others. Not having money can be crippling and depressing, but recognizing your skills and the value you provide with what you do have now, can lead you to more opportunities and more money down the road. Being broke makes you more creative, and once you feel like you’ve hit rock bottom, there’s nowhere to go but up!

Ep. 6: Hey, what's your social?

Social Media is officially an outlet and tool to communicate. How we communicate varies on different platforms but the act of networking remains the same. It’s another way to connect and promote who you are in various forms and connect with people in different ways.
Social media is the utilization of the internet and tech platforms used to create and promote information in different ways. It is the merge of society and technology to facilitate community on the internet. How community is facilitated and promoted is expressed in different ways.

Ep. 5: Hey, what are we talking about?

Today's Topic? Hey, what are we talking about?

I also want to advise you to write this down! As mentioned in my last episode, writing helps you learn, earn, and what? REMEMBER. So if you really want to do better with networking, take some notes.

When starting a conversation think of the conversation you want to have in 3 sections:

1- Introduction
2- Compliment/Compassion
3- Intention of Talking

I broke it down into 3 sections because you want to make sure there’s a beginning, middle and end to a conversation. When you’re networking, especially when connecting with people for the very first time, you don’t want to just start talking and rambling on forever. You want to keep it short and sweet. So this is broken down to help guide the conversation.
When someone you don’t know approaches you, or contacts you, wouldn’t you want to know who they are? I know I do. This is why introducing yourself is very important. When introducing yourself, start by saying hello and state your name. Then after stating your name, give 2-3 facts about who you are and what you do.
The introduction is like the appetizer of your conversation. Or when someone says, So tell me a little bit about you. This is what they mean.

Ep.4: Hey, did you write that down?

Hey did you write that down?

In the digital age we live in, with ipads and laptops, we look more at screens than paper.
We can easily type anything we need to remember so why write it on paper?
Why is writing important?

Well I’ll give you 3 reasons

Writing helps you learn.
Writing helps you earn.
Writing helps you remember.

Why is writing important?

Well I’ll give you 3 reasons

Writing helps you learn.

Ep. 1: HEY NICE 2 MEET YOU, I’M DEZ

Intro:
Hey nice to meet you! I’m Desiree Jones or Dez for Short and welcome to the podcast that teaches you how to establish your network and maintain relationships both on and off your screen.

Today’s Topic? My Story, why am I so passionate about networking? I’m going to share a brief description of my journey of networking and how it has helped me to accomplish my goals.

Networking is a Skill and that skill is something that I feel is slowly getting lost in the world of digital platforms and metaverses. Today, more people are becoming more social on social media, and missing the tools of how to be social in real life. In order to establish your network, you have to learn how to communicate both on and off the screen. Creating and MAINTAINING your network is the key to unlocking your potential within yourself, and opens the door to the endless possibilities of a successful future.
I’ve always been a people person growing up. I loved talking to people and it wasn’t until I got to college that I realized that was one of the key factors in networking. Talking to people.
