And what makes this question increasingly interesting is just how few wandmakers there are in the Wizarding World. Sure, it’s possible that we only see a handful of wandmakers in the series, but among the ones we do encounter, it almost feels as though they hold a kind of monopoly. And if they’re truly skilled enough to command that level of dominance, then it only makes me even more curious about what exactly it is they’re doing behind the scenes.

At Hogwarts, students mostly imitate what their professors demonstrate, and long before that, in magical homes, young witches and wizards often pick up bits of magic just by watching their parents.

And by doing these things, they learn the shape of magic, but not the rules beneath it. They don’t know why a wand must move a certain way, or why emotion matters just as much as language. They’re taught how to do magic, but it’s rarely explained why it works.

But here’s the thing about magic: it’s wildly unpredictable. It isn’t patient with mistakes, and it certainly doesn’t forgive misunderstandings. 

Which means that sometimes, when the spell isn’t quite right- it doesn’t just NOT WORK- it actively pushes back.

And when magic pushes back, there are consequences.

Of course, not every spell fits this criteria. Some spells will just fizzle out or do nothing at all. But the focus of today’s video will be on the spells that DO push back- sometimes with DIRE..Even HORRIFIC consequences.

When Warner Bros. announced that the Harry Potter series would be rebooted as a full HBO production, fans were promised something bold: a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven books. More detail, more nuance, more of the cut material the films couldn’t fit. 

And since it’s announcement, the series has been making headlines on a regular basis, with the latest rumor being the most controversial yet.

And it all began with Daniel Richtman, a well-known Hollywood scooper, who recently reported that HBO’s Harry Potter production is auditioning both men and women for the role of Voldemort.

Far from a one trick pony, by the time Dumbledore reached the tender age of 115 he had mastered nearly every branch of magic—from charms and transfiguration to potions, alchemy, and beyond.

And this mastery wasn’t just theoretical—it was proven time and time again in the real world. In 1945 he famously defeated Gellert Grindelwald, ending one of the darkest chapters in wizarding history and claiming the Elder Wand in the process. And many decades later, Dumbledore duelled the next big dark Wizard with ease- effortlessly standing toe to toe with Voldemort in the MInistry atrium in 1996. 

But Dumbledore’s brilliance extended far beyond combat—he was a skilled Legilimens and Occlumens, capable of reading and shielding minds; a master of wandless and nonverbal casting, performing feats most wizards wouldn’t dare attempt; and a gifted inventor, credited with magical creations like the Deluminator. He even collaborated with Nicolas Flamel, gaining insights into the mysteries of alchemy. Time and again, Dumbledore demonstrated that his power wasn’t rooted in a single specialty but in a boundless command of magic itself.

Which begs the question: how did he become such a beacon of knowledge and power? And even more specifically- who taught the man that knew everything?

For those who might be a little fuzzy on the details, Sirius wasn’t just some random fugitive — he was Harry’s godfather, a loyal member of the Order of the Phoenix, and once the closest friend of Harry’s father, James Potter. 

And as we get closer to the end of the book/film, it’s finally revealed to Harry that the true traitor was Peter Pettigrew, not Sirius.

It was Pettigrew who had betrayed James and Lily to Voldemort.

It was Pettigrew who had faked his own death.

And it was Pettigrew who had framed Sirius for the murder of twelve Muggles in broad daylight.

Before we as readers — or Harry — learned the truth, the version of Sirius we were given was that of a dangerous, half-mad fugitive: the first wizard to ever escape from Azkaban, a man believed to have murdered thirteen people with a single curse, and someone whose very name could strike fear into the Wizarding population.

And after these initial revelations of Sirius’ innocence come to light, Harry’s relationship with Sirius blossoms almost overnight — I’d argue, a little too quickly. In a matter of pages, Sirius goes from “the man who betrayed my parents” to “the godfather I never had,” with Harry seemingly almost immediately ready to drop the Dursleys behind and go and live with him (although we know, he couldn’t do that).

But here’s my question: if Sirius was truly innocent, why didn’t he act like it? Why did so many of his choices — from the moment of his arrest to his escape and eventual return — seem to confirm the image of a dangerous, unstable man?

We also know that things like wand loyalty can affect how well a witch or wizard is able to channel his or her magic. 

And depending on which combination of these things a wizard uses- nonverbal with a wand, verbal without a wand, verbal with a wand etc. I imagine that we’re going to see some pretty varied results.

So my question today is: Does speaking the spell out loud actually make it stronger? And while we’re at it, I’ll also be diving into whether magic performed with a wand is inherently more powerful than wandless casting.

But one thing he WASN’T was someone who would shy away from MURDERING those who got in his way.

He murdered Burbage mid-meal, order the murder of Cedric Diggory for standing in the wrong place at the wrong time, and ordered countless other deaths without hesitation. 

And even when his closest followers failed him-even slightly, he was quick to dispose of them..And simply move on. Just look at what happened to Wormtail, strangled by his own silver hand for showing a moment of mercy. Or Severus Snape, killed not for betrayal, but simply because Voldemort believed it would grant him mastery of the Elder Wand.

But with all of this in mind, there’s one person Voldemort left alive that I still can’t make sense of: Horace Slughorn.

These books were released over a 10 year period spanning my entire adolescence, and needless to say- they were pretty important to me. 

Every release felt like a cultural event, and every chapter felt like stepping back into a world that- at times- felt more real than reality itself.

Sure, there’s been plenty of exciting news — a brand new HBO series in the works, major casting announcements, and the promise of finally getting a longer, more detailed adaptation of the books.

But one person he could never kill, no matter how powerful he seemed to get, was Harry.

Aaand things got pretty controversial pretty quickly, as shortly after posing the question, “Is he a good character?”—they both came to the same conclusion: he wasn’t.

Naturally my first inclination was to feel ANGER because HOW DARE THEY insult the main antagonist from the series that I love.

But then I began to wonder….Is he a good character? Or do I just like him because I like the Harry Potter story as a whole? 

Is he compelling in his own right? Is he actually interesting?

And..Can a book even be good if a CORE character is bad?

All of this got me really thinking about what makes a good character. Is it depth? Motivation? Backstory? Complexity? 

Yes, he’s powerful. Yes, he’s terrifying. But is he relatable? Does he evolve?

So today, I want to dig deeper into whether or not Voldemort is actually a well-written character, or if he’s just been heavily propped up by the strength of the narrative around him.

The short answer for WHY all of this happened is that in transforming the beloved book series into movies, a lot of liberties were taken.

• Characters personalities were changed
• Scenes that NEVER occurred were added
• Character roles were switched
• And in many cases, aspects of the books were outright omitted

But now that so many years have passed, a lot of these movie misconceptions have become so ingrained that they've completely overwritten how we remember the original Harry Potter books. How you perceive this video will depend entirely on how you engaged with the series. For some, the films were too frustrating to finish — filled with inaccuracies that clashed with the books- and by going down this path their memory of the books (and more importantly, accurate information) remained intact. 

But for many others, the books and movies have blended together into one seamless version of the story. Harry Potter as a whole became an amalgamation of both book and film — with the lines between them increasingly blurred.

And in many instances these changes became so pervasive that they overwrote how nearly everyone remembered the source material.

Some in a morally dubious sense - and others simply because of how unbelievably astonishing they are.

But in my view, there is perhaps nothing more sinister or baffling than the notion of a love potion (and that's quite a statement given what's out there)

And because the books and films came to an end, we never gained much insight into what became of the places and characters that we grew to love.

We were given a brief epilogue that offered a TINY snippet of what their lives looked like 19 years later- but besides that..Nothing.

And this leaves a significant gap that remains largely unexplored, not to mention the many years that have passed since the epilogue.

Today I'm going to fill you in on what became of the titular character, Harry Potter- taking a look at what transpired in his life, and what sort of man he became.

While still just a boy, Dumbledore performed magic that his professors "had never seen before,", and in adulthood, he cemented his place as the most powerful wizard of his time, mastering disciplines of magic that others could barely comprehend.

Years later, Voldemort followed suit, displaying unnatural magical talent from a young age. Even before formal training, he could move objects, control animals, and manipulate the minds of others through sheer will. It's fairly safe to say that these two were leaps and bounds ahead of their peers and entirely deserving of their reputations as two of the most powerful wizards in history.

But what if I told you that another wizard - one just as powerful, if not more so, than both of these men - once walked the very same halls of Hogwarts that they did, but somehow doesn't get nearly the same recognition?

Within the wizarding society, blood purity has been a longstanding source of division and prejudice, and the assertion that some wizarding families were more "pure" than others (because their bloodline remained purely magical) is not received well by most in Wizarding Society.

Regardless of this, pure-bloods believe they are somehow better - more powerful, more deserving - simply because their lineage has remained untouched by Muggle blood. And while many wizarding families (even some on the Sacred 28 list) reject this idea as outdated and elitist, many others, like the Malfoys and the Blacks, wear their pure-blood status like a badge of honour, ensuring that their family trees remain free of Muggle influence.

And the same can be said for many others on this list.

But if we dissect the Sacred Twenty-Eight more closely, there's something... odd about it, and it's the fact that the Weasleys are on the list.

Unlike the Malfoys, who openly embraced their pure-blood superiority, the Weasleys are known for their progressive attitudes - welcoming half-bloods, Muggle-borns, and even Muggles themselves. They openly reject pure-blood supremacy, and yet... their family history, even as recent as Molly and Arthur, tells a different story. Is it possible that the Weasleys are simply no better than the families they claim to be so different from? Have they, for generations, quietly upheld the very same pure-blood traditions they claim to despise - just in a less obvious way?

After returning home from his trip, Quirrell didn't reprise his previous role of Muggle Studies professor; instead, he had been given the coveted position of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor - a subject that had been notoriously cursed for years. And although Dumbledore, ever watchful, was wary of Quirrell's drastic transformation, he lacked concrete evidence and thus permitted the young professor to carry out his duties.

And the year Quirrell assumed the role of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor coincidentally aligned with Harry Potter's first year at Hogwarts. Very early on in Harry's magical adventures, he stops at the Leaky Cauldron with Hagrid, where he has his first encounter with Quirrell - a meeting that, at the time, seemed unremarkable but would later prove to be far more significant.

I should start off by making a clear distinction between what retcon USED to mean and what it means now, because somehow the term has evolved over time into something else altogether. Depending on which version of 'Retcon' you subscribe to, you're going to have very different expectations for this list.

The ORIGINAL interpretation of Retcon, which stands for 'Retroactive Continuity', referred broadly to adding new information to previously told stories to expand or reinterpret the narrative. A good example of this would be JK Rowling revealing (through extended publications) that Witches and wizards VANISHED THEIR POOP via magic before the Hogwarts plumbing system came into effect.-

And the more commonly understood modern definition of retcon refers specifically to changes that contradict previously established facts in the narrative, whether intentional or unintentional.

The distinction here is that this interpretation places an emphasis on these new facts conflicting with existing canon.

A third definition I found online seems to support either:

'a literary device in which facts in the world of a fictional work that have been established through the narrative itself are adjusted, ignored, supplemented, or contradicted by a subsequently published work that recontextualizes or breaks continuity with the former.'

But for the sake of today's video, we're going to separate them, first placing our sights on works that CONTRADICT the source material, then shifting our perspective to more recently introduced content that SUPPLEMENTS the source material (but doesn't change it).

For many of the roles it's almost impossible to imagine ANYONE else undertaking them. But..Showrunners for the upcoming series have the behemoth task of finding people anyway.

Back in September an open casting call was announced for 3 of the most important characters in the series- Harry, Ron and Hermione. And for these roles, I can almost certainly tell you that it will be relatively unknown actors that end up taking on the characters. But besides these 3, there are a few other massively important roles that are central to the series..Like, oh I don't know- ALBUS DUMBLEDORE.

In what seems like just the last couple of years (but in reality has spanned nearly a DECADE), Warner Bros. has faced some challenges when releasing new Harry Potter IP- particularly the "Fantastic Beasts" film series. These high-budget films which dropped in 2016, 2018, and 2022 respectively struggled to find traction at the global box office and didn't quite hit the mark for most fans. And for these reasons, it's unlikely that the Fantastic Beasts films will ever continue, stopping 2 films shy of the 5 film projection originally provided.-

However, Warner Bros. found a bright spot in 2023 with the release of Hogwarts Legacy, which seemed to really strike a chord with Harry Potter fans worldwide. The game topped sales charts as the best-selling game of 2023 across ALL platforms and ALL genres- beating out Call of Duty, Madden, Zelda, Diablo and more. And since the game's release over 30 MILLION copies have been sold.

Encouraged by this success, Warner Bros. Games released Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions in August, remastered the Lego Harry Potter game collection, and granted licenses for several new mobile games.

But the biggest bit of news is that a Hogwarts Legacy SEQUEL has apparently become a 'very big priority'.

Why? Well.. They're small, hard-to-locate, and perhaps most important of all: meaningless.

But somehow, Voldemort missed the memo here, and instead chose objects that were eventually linked back to him.

So..The obvious questions here are...WHY was Voldemort so particular in his selection process for potential Horcruxes? And why didn't he choose things that would be virtually impossible to find? After all, had he done what seems so obvious, to pick meaningless inanimate objects, he may still be ruling over the Wizarding World.

I'm going to be placing a particular focus on instances in which factual errors were made or canon was somehow contradicted. Trivial errors like typos / grammatical issues will not be focused on this video.

I should also mention that I'm not making this video to CRITICIZE the books, but rather, take a look out of my own curiosity. Authors are only human and nearly every book series has mistakes like these made in them.

Rowling has even addressed this topic herself:

"As obsessive fans will tell you, I do slip up! Several classrooms move floors mysteriously between books and these are the least serious continuity errors! Most of the fansites will point you in the direction of my mistakes. But the essentials remain consistent from book to book because the story has been plotted for a long time and it is clear in my mind."

And it was during that year that the original 'Ollivander', the ancestor of Garrick Ollivander, was thought to have come from a Mediterranean country in Roman times and set up a stall in what would eventually become Diagon Alley.-

The Ollivander family quickly revolutionized wand making when they publicly forsook the traditional wand-making process, which previously had witches and wizards procure their own wand core. Ollivander believed that this process produced wands that were 'inferior' in quality and performance, which led to the family procuring all wand components for future customers.

At this point, the Ollivander of the time began his quest to discover the finest wand cores and the wand woods that best complemented them.

And from this point onward, the purchaser would no longer select a wand of THEIR choosing- and instead began the tradition of the WAND choosing the wizard.

In theory, this is a nice idea which ensures that each witch or wizard is paired with a wand perfect just for them. It also portrays the Ollivander family as genuinely caring for their customers' best interests in the name of passionate wand-making.

But I think there's a lot more to this business model than meets the eye, and I think that I've got some compelling evidence to suggest that there are seriously dark undertones to the wand industry.

But there's one thing in particular that I've always more or less accepted at face value with no regard for HOW it actually unfolds. And that THING is HOW the Ministry (and others) communicates with what are essentially amortal wraithlike spirits that (as far as I know) do NOT possess the ability to speak. I'm of course talking about DEMENTORS.

Adding even more mystery to this question is the fact that underneath that hood of theirs the Dementors have a HOLE where their mouth is supposed to be (along with some black holes for eyes).-

We know that the Ministry of Magic controls them (to some extent), but I suppose you could argue that this is an unspoken arrangement whereby Dementors are allowed to THRIVE at Azkaban Prison in exchange for relative 'peace' between the two factions.

But as it happens, there are passages from the books which STRONGLY suggest Dementors relayed information to Fudge & The Ministry..In The form of WORDS strung together.

Therefore, today I want to tackle the question of..CAN Dementors speak. And equally as important, HOW?

And that's just the PHYSICAL side of things. Mentally, the prison is an absolute nightmare. The crashing waves and howling winds serve as a natural barrier, isolating the inmates from the world they once terrorized.

The Dementors, with their shadowy forms, siphon hope and happiness from every soul they encounter. And those who enter Azkaban often leave something behind - pieces of their sanity, their will to fight, and sometimes even their humanity.

And all of this is just about borderline acceptable if we consider that it's meant to house murderers, dark wizards and those who have committed unspeakable acts against others.

But the major issue here is that Azkaban is one of the ONLY Wizarding Prisons in Britain. And what this means is that perpetrators of more MINOR crimes, and in some cases those who have been wrongly convicted, are unjustly sent in to this hell-hole along with the rest of them.-

It hardly seems appropriate that someone convicted for say, theft, would endure what is essentially the same punishment as someone who has murdered.

This raises a whole plethora of questions about wizarding society as a whole, but the one we're going to start with is: WHY one gigantic horrible prison? Why not a network of smaller, more humane facilities that focus on rehabilitation rather than sheer punishment?-

And while I don't condone demonizing any of these groups and certainly don't want to contribute to further prejudice, I can't help but wonder if there are actual physiological differences between them - beyond just their blood, of course.

Voldemort's stance on blood purity is an unusual one, as despite being a half-blood himself, he condemned anyone that wasn't pure of blood. This becomes increasingly confusing when considered in tandem with his own ego, as he hardly seems like the type of person to undermine his own identity.

At first glance his hatred and prejudice towards other groups seems like completely blind and-baseless discrimination, but if we consider that his ultimate goal undermines his OWN identity, perhaps it tells us that he genuinely perceived qualities in pure-bloods that he felt were essential for true magical prowess.-

Within the Harry Potter series, it's hard to imagine the majority of the scenes that focus on magic - WITHOUT wands. And what all 3 of these powerful items have in common is that they are able to perform extraordinary feats far beyond what is typically seen in the Wizarding World.

The Resurrection Stone is said to be able to bring the dead back to life. The Elder Wand has the ability to conquer all other wands, and The Invisibility Cloak is able to hide whatever - or whomever - is beneath it, even in circumstances in which typical invisibility charms do not work.-

Together, these items make up the Deathly Hallows, often represented by a symbol that includes all three.

But one key aspect of this integration process that got me thinking pertains to none other than the Sorting Hat. Shortly after entering the Great Hall, each of these new first year students will be required to place the fabled hat upon their head.

And the Hat, which has the unique and essential task of assigning new students to one of the four houses, will place this new student in to Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin.

For the most part, this process runs pretty smoothly, with students being sorted across the board.

But what if for some strange reason, things didn't go quite as smoothly as they usually do? What if the Sorting process led to a completely disproportionate number of students in one house? Or better yet, what if one or more houses had no new students at all?

As fans, soon after Harry Potter received his letter of acceptance and we were first introduced to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, we also learned about the magical institution's four founding members and how they decided that the student population would always be divided into four houses, which would represent the characteristics and traits most valued by each of those founding members. As the majority of you watching this will already know, the four founding members of Hogwarts School were Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin, with the corresponding houses being named after each of their surnames. And while later instalments of the series eventually focused on students from the houses of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, the beginning of Harry Potter certainly had a lot more emphasis on Gryffindor and Slytherin. What's more, there was a very obvious dichotomy presented between the two, with all of the protagonist characters - aka the "good guys" - being Gryffindors, and all of the antagonists - or "bad guys" - being Slytherins. From Harry to the compassionate and friendly Weasley family who helped him find Platform 9 and ¾, and the world-famous Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, everyone who was presented as good and heroic in the first few years of Harry's time at Hogwarts was a current or former Gryffindor student. By contrast, each of the BADDIES that we met during Harry's first few years were all Slytherins, including the bully Draco Malfoy, the cruel Professor Snape and, of course, the most evil wizard to have ever lived - Lord Voldemort. And who could forget what Hagrid told Harry before he entered his first year at Hogwarts:

And it's this discriminatory attitude that has led to tension and conflict over the centuries, as well as widespread mistrust and misunderstanding.

Even the most progressive members of the wizarding world felt a general mistrust for the tiny, monstrous humanoid-creatures, and their position within society reflected this negative attitude towards them.

But this totally undeserved treatment of Goblins wasn't met with silence. You see, over the years the Goblins have gotten together on a few occasions and rebelled- hoping for just one basic and reasonable outcome: to be treated with equal respect.

However, these attempts at being recognized by wizardkind fell on deaf ears, with wizardkind's prejudice toward the creatures prevailing on nearly every occasion.

For many years Goblins accepted their fate. They were allowed Gringotts, and they were given a number of rights in the Wizarding World. But they still weren't considered EQUALS, and the fact that their rebellions would fail time after time meant that EVENTUALLY a different approach would have to be taken. In fact, things just seemed to get worse for Goblins with each subsequent rebellion.

The rebellions were violent, but ultimately their goal was always equality.

But after enough time had passed, enough was enough, and ushered in was a new era of Goblins that had shifted their mindset. They no longer wanted to just be 'equal'- they wanted to be BETTER. They wanted to supplant Wizardkind as the dominant race of the magical world.

And spearheading that moment was the most DANGEROUS goblin to shape wizarding history and the subject of today's episode.

Then of course there's Merlin - another 10th century wizard that is supposed to have been the most powerful wizard of all time and was aptly named 'The Prince of Enchanters'.

And a few centuries after that came the Peverell brothers, a trio of brothers who in Dumbledore's own words were 'gifted, dangerous wizards who succeeded in creating those powerful objects' - those 'objects' of course being the fabled Deathly Hallows.

And in the 14th century along came Nicolas Flamel who made Wizarding History by creating perhaps the most powerful magical object of all time- the Philosopher's Stone.

When people talk about witches and wizards of the past, it's as though they were so powerful that they are entirely 'uncomparable' to most modern day witches and wizards.-

In the modern era we've got powerful wizards like Voldemort and Dumbledore..But they sort of seem like exceptions to the rule. It doesn't seem like they're TRUE outliers, but instead that they more or less represent the level of power that wizards SHOULD have..or Perhaps..ONCE had.

So my question is..What happened?

Why are witches and wizards so much weaker than they were in centuries prior? Is it all the butterbeer?-

"The number of countries that have their own magical school is minuscule compared to those that do not.-This is because the wizarding populations of most countries choose the option of home-schooling.-Occasionally, too, the magical community in a given country is tiny or far-flung and correspondence courses have been found a more cost-effective means of educating the young.

As of writing this, only EIGHT of the 11 major wizarding schools mentioned by Rowling have been confirmed, which leaves the door wide open for speculation. She first introduced the figure of '11' schools back in 2016, but for reasons unknown has yet to name the 3 'mystery' schools.-

First and foremost: The Malfoys- a wealthy, pureblood wizarding family known for their influence in the wizarding world and their affiliation with dark magic. The Malfoys built their immense wealth in 1066 when their distant ancestor, Armand Malfoy, arrived in England with William the Conqueror.

Next up, we've got the Lestranges - another wealthy pureblood family whose immense generational wealth only doubled upon intermarriage with another pureblood family, the Blacks.-

"The old goblin obeyed, pressing his palm to the wood, and the door of the vault melted away to reveal a cave-like opening crammed from floor to ceiling with golden coins and goblets, silver armour, skins of strange creatures, and a skull still wearing it's crown."

And finally we've got the Potters. Harry Potter's wealth in the Harry Potter story is certainly no secret- and we're exposed to it as early as the Philosopher's Stone- when we're first introduced to vault 687 at Gringotts. Harry has piles and piles of gold- and his immense wealth is mentioned time and time again throughout the Harry Potter story.

As it turns out, the Potter family fortune started with the founding Patriarch of the family, Linfred of Stinchcombe, a revolutionary potioner that began to amass riches in the Potter name. Following him in the family business was Fleamont Potter, Harry's grandfather, who had all sorts of success of his own.

And it seems like these few wizarding families, who touted generational wealth that had been amassed by their ancestors before them, are the only examples of 'rich' wizarding families in the Harry Potter story.-

But what if I told you that there was a man out there FAR wealthier than all of these families COMBINED...AND that he lived in a run-down old shack on the Hogwarts grounds.

Enter: Rubeus Hagrid.

The next name that comes to mind is Owle Bullock, a wizard who I just recently made a video on. In that video, I theorized that Owle, who authored 'Secrets of the Darkest Art'- a book containing any and all information ABOUT Horcruxes, was actually the ORIGINAL Horcrux creator.

And the final (and confirmed) Horcrux creator was a wizard by the name of Herpo the Foul- a powerful ancient Wizard that hailed from Greece.

But one thing I've never really gotten in to is WHAT HAPPENED to the Horcruxes of these other Horcrux creators. Voldemort's Horcruxes were destroyed, we know that much.

But what about Herpo?

If a Horcrux makes you immortal and anchors you to the world of the living, then it could mean that somewhere out there Herpo the Foul...Still exists.

You can tell a lot about a person from their wand.

But if you met Hagrid as an adult, you'd just have to GUESS these things about him, because the Hagrid WE KNOW walks around with an umbrella.

Of course, there's more to Hagrid's umbrella wand than meets the eye, but the fact remains that HAGRID does not carry a wand in the traditional sense- the main reason being that his wand was SNAPPED while he was still just a boy.

During his third year at Hogwarts, Hagrid was falsely accused by Tom Riddle to have released a monstrous creature on the school that killed a Muggle-born witch named Myrtle Warren. And as a result of this, his wand was destroyed by the British Ministry of Magic.

But the actions taken towards Hagrid always seemed EXTREME and INCONSISTENT.-

Because there was insufficient evidence to prosecute Hagrid, he avoided Azkaban (at least the first time around). But he still somehow landed himself an expulsion from Hogwarts and a snapped wand.

But..There are a few big issues with this statement.

First of all, it's factually incorrect. While the vast majority of the dark witches and wizards in the wizarding world were indeed at one time Slytherin students, it certainly wasn't all of them.-

Second of all, many have interpreted Hagrid's statement to mean: 'all Slytherins will become evil', when what Hagrid really meant was that 'all bad witches and wizards ORIGINATED from Slytherin. Which is..Also not true.

I will admit that when you think about all of the evil in the Wizarding World, it is certainly hard to distance your mind from the green and silver house. However, in reality there are numerous other examples of BAD wizards that came from well...ALL of the other houses.

Think about it.

We had Pettigrew from Gryffindor.

We had Quirrell from Ravenclaw.

Dobby the big hearted House Elf makes his first appearance in the Chamber of Secrets- when he enters the home of #4 privet drive at perhaps the worst moment imaginable- the same day that Vernon Dursley, Harry's terrible uncle, is having a very important business dinner.

It's been 26 prosperous years since Lord Voldemort made his final stand at the Battle of Hogwarts, finally meeting his end on May 2nd of 1998.-

And since that time, the MUGGLE world has changed a whole lot. The Internet has become mainstream, smartphones are prolific, communication is instant and everything is online. And if we consider how much the MUGGLE world has developed since the late 90s, I'd wager that the Wizarding World has undergone something similar.

I think that, since the momentous day that marked Voldemort's defeat, the Wizarding World has undergone a significant amount of change. Firstly, because they haven't a dark threat to deal with in MANY years, and secondly because technology (even wizarding technology) develops exponentially.

The First Wizarding War ran from 1970-1981, and the Second Wizarding War ran from 1995-1998, which MEANS that this is the longest period of time (for quite some time) that the Wizarding World has been able to exist in relative peace.

And with the focus shifting from dark threats to societal development, things can evolve pretty quickly. Just like a phoenix, wizarding society rose from the ashes and emerged from the second wizarding war stronger than ever.

These were the words ushered from Voldemort’s mouth just moments before Harry Potter met his apparent demise. In this moment, Harry had made the choice to sacrifice himself in order to protect his friends- exchanging his own life for the safety of every other witch and wizard who bravely fought against Voldemort’s forces.

He came to die.

Of course we later find out that Harry, who stared death right in the face, eventually survives. But what I want to discuss today is HOW he survives.

If we go by Harry Potter canon, there are several explanations that shed light on how Harry manages to survive, and we owe our gratitude to Dumbledore for providing us with answers to these sorts of questions.

At the time, Tom was an 11-year-old orphan who had exhibited signs of magical abilities, but he was also known for his manipulative and cruel behavior towards the other chi*ldren at the orphanage. On the outside, Tom looked fairly innocuous, but underneath was a brooding dark force that would stop at nothing to cause pain and suffering to others.

This encounter between Dumbledore and Tom Riddle is significant, because it marks the beginning of their complex relationship throughout the series. It also highlights Dumbledore's role in the early life of one of the most dangerous dark wizards in history.

All of this is shown to Harry via the pensieve, the purpose of which was to give Harry a sense of context for the task that he would later give him, and the memories that he would later show him. He wanted to give Harry an idea of the troubled boy that lord Voldemort once was, show him that Tom Riddle was once a student much like him, and show him how his path of darkness began.-

But my question is: how did Dumbledore, who we are led to believe is particularly intelligent and strategic, suffer such a massive oversight in assessing Tom Riddle's nature?

The very first known Horcrux was made in Ancient Greece by a wizard named Herpo the Foul, and thousands of years later, Voldemort became only the second known creator of a Horcrux. Made from magic that is so terrible in nature that even dark wizards are horrified by what it entails, Horcruxes are creations that are unimaginable to the vast majority of the Wizarding World. So, when Voldemort made seven, it was a demonstration of just how incredibly evil he was. When interviewed on the topic, even JK Rowling stumbled her words as to avoid revealing its process directly.

To start, I'd like to acknowledge that there are loads of debates out there between fans as to whether Malfoy was a redeemable character or not. There seems to be two very distinct camps – one that believes Draco was a snake at the beginning of the series, and an even bigger snake at the end; and another that believes he was simply brought up in an environment of hate but was really a good person. The latter of these two groups, suggests that there is a very obvious character arc and redeeming storyline that Draco goes through in the latter half of the series. I must admit that I'm somewhat with the second group of fans in my beliefs regarding Malfoy. Sure, he was a pompous pureblood that did terrible things to Harry and his friends in their youth. But these terrible things were always done with juvenile intent. For example, in The Philosopher's Stone, Draco was responsible for tricking Harry into thinking he was going to fight Malfoy in a midnight duel. BUT his true intention in challenging Harry was to have him found outside of bed, running around the castle after hours – something which would have resulted in Harry's expulsion. EXPULSION – not death – not even harm. So, I imagine you take my meaning. Draco seemed to hate Harry but not to the point that he would cause him actual harm – at least as an 11-year-old boy. Of course, later in the series, there are many times in which Draco is presented with the opportunity to bring harm to Harry – such as when he was asked to identify if a very badly stung Harry was indeed THE Harry Potter. This happens at Malfoy Manor in The Deathly Hallows after a group of snatchers find Harry, Ron, and Hermione in the woods and they use a charm to puff up Harry's face beyond the point of recognizability. Of course, the snatchers suspect it's Harry, his lightning-bolt scar mainly to blame. But when Draco, home from school on holiday, is asked to confirm that the puffy-faced, adolescent wizard IS THE Harry Potter, he falters. He knows it's Harry – we know he knows. But he does not confirm it to his father, Lucius, even though it would've brought the Malfoy family back into great favour with the Dark Lord, because Draco knows that if he were to identify Harry as HARRY, he would've been killed. This is one of the MOST telling moments into the true nature of Draco Malfoy. And, so, it's with this perspective that I'll be taking you through today's theories on Mr. Malfoy.

We know that in November of 1945, Dumbledore achieved the impossible by defeating the notorious (and Elder Wand wielding) dark wizard at large- Gellert Grindelwald.

For decades, Grindelwald had been building his following and spreading his poisonous ideologies, disrupting the Wizarding World in a way unlike any other wizard before. His goal was simple: to establish a new world order where wizards would reign supreme over Muggles. His ideologies, promoted segregation, discrimination, and violence, instilling fear and chaos in thw eyes of many. And for a long time, it looked as though Grindelwald's twisted perspectives were gaining traction..

That is, until Albus Dumbledore stepped in.

We also know that Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald in a duel of 'Legendary Proportions' that is widely perceived to have been the most legendary duel of all Wizarding history.

"They say, still, that no Wizarding duel ever matched that between Dumbledore and Grindelwald in 1945. Those who witnessed it have written of the terror and the awe they felt as they watched these two extraordinary wizards do battle. Dumbledore's triumph, and its consequences for the Wizarding world, are considered a turning point in magical history."

But one question that's never quite been properly answered by the history books is...HOW? How did Dumbledore defeat Grindelwald?

While we have been enthralled by the likes of Harry, Hermione, and Ron, there exists a treasure trove of characters lying dormant in the scribblings, unpublished drafts and words spoken by J.K. Rowling during interviews.-

Some were scrapped in the editing process, others lost to the ever-advancing plot, and the rest just weren't quite Harry Potter material.-

Today we'll be delving into the sketches, interviews, and whispered rumors to uncover these intriguing, yet unused, characters. Discussing their origins, powers, and the roles they may have played if given the chance. From a lost Weasley family member, to a Hogwarts TOAD ghost, to a professor named Pettigrew, this list has it all.-

After the dust settled and the battle with Voldemort came to an end, the Wizarding world celebrated the triumph of good over evil. Voldemort's downfall had a profound impact on the Wizarding world, effectively bringing an end to a dark era characterized by the absence of hope and replacing it with a renewed sense of optimism.

However, it also marked the beginning of an uncharted chapter in wizarding world history.

And because the books and films ended, we never really got many insights in to HOW the Wizarding World rebuilt itself. And more specific to todays' topic, we weren't given any further information on what the lives of our beloved trio looked like in the aftermath of the war.

We were given a brief epilogue that gave us a GLIMPSE in to their lives 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts- but besides that, nothing else. All we get to see are the main characters gathered at Platform 9¾ as they see off their own children to Hogwarts.

But this leaves a pretty large gap in time- 19 years to be exact- that's relatively uncharted.

Today, I'd like to provide you with some information on what transpired with the trio during these relatively unexplored two decades following the war. From their personal to their professional lives, this video is going to cover it all.

Severus Snape became the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor during Harry's sixth year at Hogwarts. And in theory, he was perfect for the position. He had a profound understanding of both sides of the magical spectrum, and knew more about the dark arts than most- making him the perfect candidate to teach students all about it.

So..Why didn't he assume the role SOONER? If Snape was so perfect for it- why couldn't he just have the job? Why did he have to wait until Harry was in his sixth year? Why did we have to first go through Quirrell, Lockhart, Lupin, Fake Moody and Umbridge before SNAPE got his chance? The answer may be more complicated than you think.

Harry first discovers the Mirror for himself in the Philosopher's Stone:

"It was a magnificent mirror, as high as the ceiling, with an ornate gold frame, standing on two clawed feet. There was an inscription carved around the top: Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi. "

In case you've forgotten how the mirror works, it's essentially a magical mirror that holds the power to show us the 'deepest, most desperate desires' of our hearts. This is reflected in the mirror's name, no pun intended, as 'Erised' flipped around reads as 'desire'. Engraved on the mirror are the words 'Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi, which, backwards, reads as 'I show not your face but your hearts desire'.

According to existing Harry Potter lore all we know is that it existed BEFORE the nineteenth century (pretty open window there) and that no one knows HOW it arrived at Hogwarts. These two aspects of the mirror's existence seem to be entirely undocumented. Moreover, it is entirely ambiguous whether the Mirror of Erised was created with innocent and playful intentions or with more malevolent and darker motives.

Now, within the wizarding world magic can be leveraged for a wide variety of functions- from help with every day tasks (like cleaning), to picking locks, to teleportation. But perhaps one of the most IMPORTANT uses of magic in a tumultuous wizarding world (that seems to face a new dark wizard every few decades) is the ability to perform martial magic - that is, magic for combat.-

Now, in every day context martial magic is not necessary, but it certainly never hurts to be prepared for an invasion of death eaters or dark wizard acolytes, and that's probably why most of these 5 powerful spells were created in the first place.

As you progress through the books and films, your perception of Snape is constantly challenged- is he good? Bad? What are his intentions? And in the end, it turned out that Snape was almost more devoted to the cause than anyone.-

Snape later dies in the Deathly Hallows, after Voldemort comes to the conclusion that he will need to kill Snape in order to become the true owner of the elder wand. However, we do also find out later on that Snape died in vain, as he was never the true owner of the elder wand after all - and was simply unnecessarily killed by Voldemort. However, what was always interesting about Voldemort killing Snape was that he didn't do it himself-he used Nagini.

So we know that Snape ultimately dies at the hands, or mouth (rather) of Nagini on Voldemort's orders. But what I found unusual about Snape's death was the very significant ABSENCE of Avada Kedavra AKA the killing curse. Voldemort is a massive proponent of the killing curse, I mean.. he can't get enough of it, and it's very purpose is to kill. So, why wouldn't he use Avada Kedavra on Snape? Instead, he uses Nagini to finish Snape off? Why?

As many of you will know, the trajectory of Harry's life was determined before he was even born. For, just weeks before his birth on July 31 in the year of 1980, a somewhat inadequate soothsayer named Sybill Patricia Trelawney provided the wizarding world with a prediction that would forever change the course of history. She gave an authentic prophecy, that would one day go on to become infamous, while meeting with Professor Albus Dumbledore at the Hog's Head Inn. After going into a trance-like state during the meeting, which was actually an informal interview for the Hogwarts' Divination teaching position.-

Based on Trelawney's appointment of the Divination Professor soon-after, it's believed that she made this prophecy in June of 1980 - mere weeks before the birth of Harry Potter.-

After Harry's birth, the reasons for Voldemort targeting the Potter family are rather easy to explain. Most obviously, Harry was born on July 31 - the end of the seventh month. As for the "born to those who have thrice defied him" bit - that's a bit less obvious. But we do know that Lily and James Potter - Harry's parents - were both asked to join the Death Eaters while at Hogwarts and turned down the invitations. They were also part of the original Order of the Phoenix, which means they would have been part of the missions to fight against Voldemort and his followers. As the war against the Dark Lord and his Death Eaters was ongoing, they most certainly had many opportunities to defy Voldemort repeatedly.-

So, all of this adds up as to why Voldemort targeted the Potter family and believed Harry to be the wizard described in Trelawney's prophecy. BUT the real question is: why didn't he ALSO go after the Longbottoms?

In thinking about the novels and films of Harry Potter, it's really not all that difficult to name a few of the bravest characters that grace both the pages and the silver screen. Starting with the title character, of course, Harry Potter - or the Boy Who Lived - is without a doubt the most obvious hero of the franchise. Fans don't have to look very far from there to point out other notable heroes, from Harry's courageous and heroic best mates, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, to the world-famous Professor Albus Dumbledore. And while the headmaster has already well established himself as a hero when Harry arrives at Hogwarts School, the trio of friends also become lauded for their bravery and heroic deeds from their very first year at school. While the recognition of their heroism may go from "sixty points" to Gryffindor "for pure nerve and outstanding courage" in their first year to the gratitude of the entire wizarding world for defeating one of the darkest wizards history has ever know, it's rather inarguable that alongside one of the greatest heroes of all time, Harry, Ron and Hermione are also certainly heroes - all of whom receive the recognition they deserve for their bold and daring feats. But what about all those other characters who helped Dumbledore and the golden trio succeed in those accomplishments? For, as we know, Harry and his friends wouldn't have made it as far as they did in their journey to defeat Voldemort without the help of many allies along the way.

You might not be too surprised to hear that Rowling, who wrote the 7 Harry Potter books in a 10 year timespan, generated a fair bit of information (storylines, plots, characters) that simply never made it in to the final versions of the beloved books. And in time, these secondary pieces of information have come to be known as 'Ghost Plots'.

"Over the seventeen years that I planned and wrote the seven Harry Potter books, I generated a mass of information about the magical world that never appeared in the books. I liked knowing these things (which was fortunate, given that I couldn't stop my imagination spewing it all out) and often, when I needed a throwaway detail, I had it ready because of the background I had developed.

I also found myself developing storylines for secondary (or even tertiary) characters that were superfluous to requirements. More of a wrench were the plots I worked out for some much more important characters that had to be sacrificed for the bigger story. All of these I inwardly termed 'ghost plots', my private expression for all the untold stories that sometimes seemed quite as real to me as the 'final cut'."

But what you may be surprised to hear is that a lot of these deleted plotlines and characters have since been exposed by Rowling. It's been 27 years since the first book came out, so I guess it was bound to happen eventually.

Anyway, today we're going to be taking a closer look at some of these ghost plots, examining the Harry Potter story in a completely new light.

"It is Veritaserum - a Truth Potion so powerful that three drops would have you spilling your innermost secrets for this entire class to hear. Now, the use of this potion is controlled by very strict Ministry guidelines. But unless you watch your step, you might just find that my hand slips - right over your evening pumpkin juice. And then, Potter... then we'll find out whether you've been in my office or not."

Besides maybe Felix Felicis, Polyjuice Potion and Amortentia- I feel as though Veritaserum AKA 'Truth' Serum is one of the most powerful potions in the entire Wizarding World. And given this fact, I can't help but notice that it's ludicrously underutilized (at least in the series).

In fact, the list of times that it's actually used in the story is exceedingly short. These moments include..

• Giving it to Barty Crouch Jr after discovering that he was disguised as DADA Professor Mad Eye Moody
• Rita Skeeter using it on Bathilda Bagshot while interviewing her for Albus Dumbledore's biography

There were of course other times that it was mentioned, like when Dolores Umbridge used a 'fake potion' made by Snape on Harry Potter that he only pretended to drink.

But on the whole, it's not even talked about that much, and I feel like it could bring about a whole lot of clarity. ESPECIALLY in the context of convicting criminals. In the Death Eater trials, for example, Igor Karkaroff was pardoned by the Wizengamot after giving up the names of some of his co-conspirators. Why not just feed him Truth Serum?

In today's video we'll be discussing WHY Veritaserum isn't more actively used by the Ministry of Magic. We'll also be discussing use-cases from the story in which Veritaserum could have proven to be extremely useful, potentially saving lives in the process.

Although the first few instalments of Harry Potter were clearly written for a younger audience, it's evident from the very beginning of The Philosopher's Stone that this is not a series afraid to kill off characters. In fact, before we even get 50 pages into that very first novel, we learn - alongside a distraught 11-year-old Harry Potter - that his parents not only died but were MURDERED by one of the most evil and dark wizards of all time. And so, while many of us were indeed taken by surprise when some of our favourite characters were later killed off in the books/films that followed, it really should've been somewhat obvious that we were in for a dark and treacherous ride.-

Which brings us to today's topic - all those deaths. What did they mean? Did they stand for anything? Or were they simply meant to toy with our emotions? Well, in today's video, we'll be discussing these deaths and, in particular, what each of them meant in the larger context of the series.

First things first, Dumbledore is unquestionably one of the most powerful and INTELLIGENT wizards to have ever lived. While at school, Dumbledore's magical abilities consistently turned heads, particularly his skills surrounding charms and transfiguration. He also did exceptionally well on his N.E.W.T.S and O.W.L's. Griselda Marchbanks, a professor working for the Wizarding Examinations Authority, remarked that Albus was able to do things with a wand that 'she had never seen before' - remember that.

He was remarkably wise, cunning, tactical and even emotionally intelligent.-

But while Dumbledore may very well be all of these things, the series sometimes portrayed him to be practically omniscient. So much so, that it's even remarked upon by other characters:

"You are omniscient as ever, Dumbledore." "oh, no, merely friendly with the local barman"

And while this may have been a somewhat playful comment on Dumbledore's behalf, I think that there may actually be some pointers in the story that help to explain Dumbledore's seemingly all-knowing perspective.-

Dumbledore (throughout the books) just seems to give off an overwhelming 'feeling' that he KNOWS what's going on around him at all times.

Even those not terribly familiar with the wizarding world of Harry Potter will have likely - at the very least - HEARD of the large and lovable Weasley clan. First introduced during the famous scene at King's Cross Station in which Harry searches for Platform 9 ¾s, we meet Ron, his mother, Molly, and four of Ron's six siblings before Harry even boards the Hogwarts Express. From there, Harry and Ron go on to create one of the strongest friendships of the entire series, with the orphaned "Boy Who Lived" spending much of his time with, not only Ron, but the entire Weasley family during the many holidays and special events that take place over the years. As a general rule, fans of book series know to watch movie adaptations of the novels they love without expecting too much - for it is extremely rare that a filmmaker's vision will match the fictitious world that a fan has created in their own mind. After all, how could you expect every single person to interpret a book the EXACT same way - from the appearance of the characters to how the world looks around them. And even if there was some sort of consensus on how a character was supposed to look, there's also the fact that it's incredibly unlikely for there to be an actor or actress out there who perfectly resembles that character, is the right age, has the correct dialect, AND can act. Of course, this seems even more impossible when applying the concept to an entire cast of characters - like in Harry Potter.-

And so, when the first movie adaptation of the Harry Potter series, The Philosopher's Stone, was released in 2001, it goes without saying that fans of the books knew things wouldn't be perfect. BUT it wasn't unreasonable to think that the films would at least TRY to accurately reflect the people and places that fans had read on the pages of the first few books. And in many ways, it did - especially, that first film. However, as more and more movies were made, there were some pretty glaring differences between the books and the films - in particular, with some of the main characters of the series.-

Within the wizarding world, anyone referred to as simply a "Slytherin" is a current or former student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry who was sorted into Slytherin House upon their arrival at the school.-

The House of Slytherin is representative of one of the four founding members of Hogwarts, Salazar Slytherin, a powerful wizard who believed in magical blood purity and argued that only pureblood families should be offered enrollment at the school.

As such, many people associate Slytherins with cruel, dark or simply prejudiced witches or wizards. Unfortunately, this view of Slytherins is further supported by the sheer number of graduates who went on to become entangled with Dark Magic. BUT, it's important to note that that's NOT ALWAYS the case. There are lots of *quote* good witches and wizards who have been former Slytherin students, some of which we'll touch on in today's video.

Tragically, Merope died shortly after Riddle was born, the result of a broken heart. Abandoned by the man that she loved and suffering complications from childbirth paired with starvation and/or hypothermia, Merope no longer had any desire to live, and made no attempts to utilize magic to save her own life.

In interviews conducted AFTER the series ended, JK Rowling opens up the possibility of Voldemort LOVING something, someone. She said it herself, if Merope had survived and been there to raise him, then there's a very good chance that he COULD have loved. This means that he was never quite as emotionally incapable as other canon suggests.

So my question is..If the transformation of Tom Riddle in to Voldemort could have been avoided by some love and care, then what on earth happened to him at the orphanage? I suppose it's possible that he simply needed the love and care of his mother- but, weren't the caregivers at the orphanage good to Tom? Or, was it actually Tom's upbringing that was directly responsible for creating the monster that tore apart the Wizarding World?

In 1980 Sybil Trelawney, the now Hogwarts divination professor, was interviewing for her posting at Hogwarts. During her interview, a disappointed and unimpressed Dumbledore began to lose interest, when suddenly Sybill entered a trance. In her trance, Sybill spoke of a boy, that would be born at the end of July, that possessed the power to defeat the dark lord himself.-

Had no one heard Sybil's prophecy, then there likely wouldn't have been any need to go in to hiding. But unfortunately for the Potters, Snape (who was then a Death Eater) was eavesdropping at the door, and it didn't take long for him to relay this new information to Voldemort. From Snape's perspective, this was his first mistake, but it was also perhaps the catalyst for unforgivable, opportunistic actions on Snape's part that will (potentially) forever change the way you look at his character.

For the most part, Slughorn is regarded as charming, jovial and well-liked among students and staff alike. He had a talent for creating positive and welcoming environments. He was also known for his love of the finer things in life, such as good food and luxurious tastes.

What's more, Slughorn was an excellent professor- showing plenty of enthusiasm and providing practical examples to help students understand complex potion-making techniques.

We later find out that Slughorn had some skeletons in his closet, like giving Tom Riddle information on Horcruxes, but after those memories are extracted he's still not exactly painted as a guilty party. He comes across as a sort of unwilling participant, divulging information on a topic that he couldn't have possibly considered the ramifications of.

But here's my hot take...Slughorn's nature was a lot darker than people realize.

However, over the course of the series, our impression of Lucius Malfoy changes significantly, and this perceived sense of 'power' that he previously exuded seems to fall off of a cliff.

Fast forward just a few books and Lucius Malfoy no longer displays.. any kind of power or influence. Lucius, who was once confident and haughty, is now portrayed as fearful and desperate- a broken man who has completely lost control of his life.

The wizarding world is certainly not shy to elements of prejudice, In fact, one of the main focuses of Voldemort's death eaters was establishing power over the worlds of half-bloods and muggles. Voldemort felt that those with pure-blood lines deserved to be in power, and anyone who got in his way would either be murdered or made to be indefinitely subservient- a slave to his regime.

And while the wizarding world may sometimes seem like a separate realm altogether, the surprisingly high number of Muggle-born witches and wizards that find themselves integrated into this enchanted society do bring with them a distinctly UNIQUE type of knowledge.-

Since the original release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997, theories based on the wizarding world of Harry Potter have abounded. There are theories out there that Professor Severus Snape was a vampire and that Hermione and Harry were actually siblings. Some of these theories are more popular and widespread than others - such as the idea that Neville Longbottom was actually the Chosen One Professor Trelawney spoke of in her prophecy about the downfall of Lord Voldemort. There are also outlandish speculations that barely deserve any discussion. Today, however, I'll be taking you through a fan theory that has gained some massive traction online - the idea that Rubeus Hagrid was in fact a Death Eater.

The majority of this theory has been presented by a Reddit user by the name of Whoofph, who shared his theory on the sub-Reddit "FanTheories". Upon first learning of this theory, I must admit - I was skeptical. How could the blundering, yet lovable half-giant, who rescued Harry from the Dursleys, secretly be a dark wizard in DIRECT conflict with those he was supposed to be allied with? But after reading it, I must admit, the theory is compelling and filled with some incredibly plausible evidence. It is worth noting, however, that the author of the theory has conceded that much of "the evidence" against Hagrid can likely be chalked up to plot holes, especially earlier on in the series - but it's still fascinating to see how it all fits so well together to support the idea that Hagrid could have actually been a double agent, and follower of Lord Voldemort. As another fan pointed out, the idea that this could be true also provides a really interesting balance to Severus Snape being a double agent for Dumbledore.

In any case, let's take a look at some of the most valid points - at least in my opinion - that support the idea that Hagrid was a Death Eater from this popular fan theory...

However what we must remember is that at the end of the day, PURE BLOOD status doesn't mean ANYTHING. The most powerful PURE BLOODS are NOT the most powerful wizards- in fact, a top 10 list for the most powerful wizards would only include a couple of the people in this list. The majority of powerful witches and wizards in the wizarding world are actually HALF-BLOODS.
