Brisbane, Australia’s The Saints are responsible for two of the greatest punk albums of all time, in 1977’s '(I’m) Stranded' and 1978’s 'Eternally Yours.'

This November, look for “The Saints ’73-‘78” to be touring North America, featuring original members Ed Kuepper and Ivor Hay, along with The Birthday Party’s Mick Harvey, the Sunnyboys’ Peter Oxley and Mudhoney’s Mark Arm, in service of original lead singer Chris Bailey, lost to us in 2022.

Additionally, there’s a four-LP boxset version of the milestone debut album out, as well as a new solo album from Ed, done in conjunction with Jim White from the Dirty Three, called 'After the Flood.'

Check out Goldmine author Martin Popoff interview The Saints guitarist/ vocalist/songwriter Ed Kuepper in a wide-ranging chat that looks at how The Saints dovetailed into the punk movement, along with a fair bit on each of the three albums covered by the upcoming tour, plus a look at the new solo album. In Memoriam: Matt Vinci, bassist of Liege Lord

Liege Lord certainly made their mark on the heavy metal genre. The band's brand of power metal combined the influences of early Iron Maiden and Judas Priest with the grit of '80s thrash metal. The nucleus of this sound was the songwriting of bassist Matt Vinci, who recently passed away on September 9, 2023. Matt would bring lyrics and bass lines to guitarist Tony Truglio, and together they would create metal masterpieces for three Liege Lord albums, Freedom's Rise (1985), Burn To My Touch (1986) and Master Control (1988). Liege Lord continues to this day, and Tony Truglio remains the only original member of the band after Matt's passing.

On this podcast episode, Tony Truglio talks about Matt's importance to Liege Lord and his enduring creative legacy. We remember Matt fondly and hope many will listen to this tribute to him, as Tony picks four songs that represent him well.

Backstage Auction's "The Jon and Marsha Zazula Private Collection Auction" runs through September 11, 2022. It's an auction officially endorsed by the Zazula estate, auctioning off the most personal items of Megaforce Records owners (Jon and Marsha Zazula) symbolizing their storied record business career. There are first pressings like Metallica's Kill 'em All debut and interesting items with crazy stories behind them (the keys to Metallica's stolen rental van). Also bands who served the heavy metal underground from the beginning, like Raven, Venom and Anthrax.

However, it's not all heavy metal. The Zazula's helped revamp the careers of Ace Frehely and Blue Cheer, and advanced the music of artists like the bluesy soul of Warren Haynes and the poppy Bif Naked.

As with all auctions that center on record companies, there's lots to be found for the music collector and music memorabilia maven.

Dennis DeYoung of Styx fame

Vocalist-keyboardist Dennis DeYoung — the frontman of the classic Styx lineup — has a solo album coming out at the end of May called 26 East, Vol. 1 . The title is a reference to DeYoung's Chicago roots — the address of the house he grew up in — and the beginning of the band Styx.

DeYoung has not been with Styx since 1999 but his vocal style is distinctive to the band's sound and it really shows on the album 26 East, Vol. 1 . On this episode we'll play samples of certain album tracks, such as the Styx-sounding "East Of Midnight" and the Julian Lennon duet "In the Good Old Days."

Survivor/Ides of March guitarist Jim Peterik was the catalyst for 26 East, Vol. 1, as he encouraged DeYoung to record again. Along with lead guitarist Mike Aquino and DeYoung's son Matthew, Peterik rounds out the sound of 26 East, Vol. 1, — and DeYoung's vocals are as good as ever. Styx fans will be very pleased!

On this episode, DeYoung will discuss the album's message (including an in-your-face attack on cable news called “With All Due Respect”), future volumes of music and key aspects of Styx's history. And, hopefully, DeYoung will tour later in this year. if pandemic restrictions let up..

Stevie Wonder/Marvin Gaye Sports Arena Concert Poster (1963). Extremely Rare. Oversized window card for the “Motortown Revue” in Toledo, OH on Tues. Nov. 5. This wonderful Motown multi-act poster shows an illustration of “Genius / of the / Harmonica / Little Stevie Wonder”, and lists recent hits “Workout Stevie, Workout” and “Fingertips”. The poster also features images and hit songs for the other acts on the lineup including the Miracles, “Mickey’s / Monkey”; Marvin Gaye “Pride and Joy”, “Can I Get A Witness”; Martha and the Vandellas “Heat Wave”; the Contours, “Do You Love Me”; Mary Wells, “You Lost The Sweetest Boy”; and Kim Weston, “Love Me All The Way”. Printed by “Globe Poster – Baltimore”. Measures 22″ x 35″. In Very Good condition with some restoration and touch ups, particularly to the borders and right side of the poster.

This is the first time an example of this incredible poster has been offered at auction. It is widely considered by poster collectors to be THE finest Motown concert poster. “Little” Stevie Wonder was only thirteen when this show took place. Amazingly he had just scored his first no. 1 hit with “Fingertips”, which is listed on this poster. It is even more remarkable, considering it was the first live recorded single to top the charts!
