      <title>Season 2 - Episode 2: Transitioning from Web2 to Web3 with Catherine Hinderman</title>
<description>Kamilah and Nova chat about their transitions from web2 to web3. They talk about getting into tech and organizations focused on technology that helped them move to this new evolution of the internet.
Nova talks about having one foot in web2 and the other in web3. Yet over time, Nova’s found herself becoming more and more part of the metaverse and web3 movement.
Transitioning from Web3 to Web3
This week’s guest is Catherine Hinderman. She joins Kamilah and Nova from India (a 10.5-hour time difference). Catherine is originally from Sweden, educated in the US, and is working on a new luxury brand in India, where she is CEO and co-founder of Gaia-Amore.
Catherine was in a tech accelerator when she saw how gaming was involved in the tech – but should be similarly available to artisans. Gaia-Amore is focused on creating a hybrid between physical luxury and digital luxury. They also provide a means for artisans with less education - but a tremendous amount of culture and skill - to reach a new and larger audience and expand their exposure, too.
Catherine had to wrap her head around NFTs when she first encountered them – but then she understood their benefit as a creative product that holds value.
When asked how the metaverse will impact eCommerce, Catherine says this is only the beginning. Brands have to innovate to compete, and Gen Z has been digitized more or less all their lives – so they’re likely to drive this.
How do you get customers into Web3 and all that’s there?
Catherine shares multiple resources for learning more – starting with LinkedIn.
Nova, Catherine, and Kamilah talk about how web3 and the metaverse are not scary.
People like Nova, Catherine, and Kamilah stand between these two worlds and can help people transition between them.

<title>Season 1 - Episode 12 - Fashion and Building Communities in the Metaverse with Simon Mikolajcyzk</title>
<description>Kamilah and Nova chat about fashion in Web3 and the Metaverse.
This week’s guest is Simon Mikolajcyzk. He is a skilled entrepreneur. He’s done a lot of community building, marketing efforts, and fundraising. As part of Maison DAO, Simon has been doing a great deal of work to build more communities and connections in Web3.
Simon first got into Crypto/blockchain when he moved to Berlin. He was thinking about connecting blockchain and fashion. He also wanted to find out how to help limit waste and work with the supply chain
Nova and Kamilah also talk about the connections between marketing and community building.
Simon talks about Maison DAO and creating a new home for brands in Web3 and the metaverse. “Fashion doesn’t exist in a vacuum.” At the same time, it is always connected to other art. He goes on to talk about how Web3 opens the way for better global communication and “hybrid” events online and in-person (IRL).
There are technical limitations to hybrid events, but it’s improving, and many different people are working to improve on them.
Simon, Nova, and Kamilah talk about how things will continue to change as the metaverse and Web3 grow and impact retail, commerce, and more.

      <title>Season 1 - Episode 11 - Building in the Metaverse with Fatemeh Monfared</title>
<description>Kamilah and Nova discuss Web3. They discuss how someone designs in the Metaverse versus the real world. They talk about helping people get into, engage, and interact in the Metaverse and where it can and is going with creatives.
Fatemeh Monfared is a licensed architect building in the Metaverse. She’s co-founder and chief Metaverse architect at Spaces DAO. NFT co-creator.
Fatemeh tells her crypto story. Her first exposure was by a teacher in 2013. In 2017, Fatemeh got into crypto investing. With the pandemic, she entered the Metaverse as a creative.
She discusses how building the virtual world differs from building a physical structure – such as removing the engineering restrictions - and re-touches on the possibilities without physical limitations.
Spaces DAO is a collective of artists, architects, and others working to bring design aesthetics to the metaverse. They help with the creation of NFTs as deployable 3D elements.
Members of the DAO are creators working together to release various creations. Fatemeh talks about building in both Web2 and Web3. She shares thoughts on getting into the various platforms of the Metaverse and becoming familiar with what is there to see how to build and improve on what’s being created.
Fatemeh talks about the steps one can take to build their vision into a (virtual) reality in the Metaverse and why she and her cofounder named their DOA Spaces.

      <title>Season 1 - Episode 10 - Demystifying Music Accessibility in Web3 with YahZarah Oduro</title>
<description>Kamilah and Nova discuss the music industry and its connections to crypto, NFTs, and Web3. They explore how Web3 opens new avenues for creatives to take back their ownership and monetize their work without the middleman.
YahZarah is a singer, songwriter, and producer, and has worked with multiple big-name acts. She has been Grammy-nominated and went to the same college as Kamilah.
YahZarah discusses how contracting COVID impacted her life, and after recovering she had to find new avenues to share her work. An introduction to NFTs helped her find a new path. She talks about how Web3 helped her find a new audience and encouragement to continue her art, despite difficult times.
She talks about how you can be yourself and create something incredible in Web3 with all the new people getting into and succeeding in the space.
YahZarah explains how tokenization gives musicians and other artists a new avenue for “sovereignty” along the way. YahZarah wants to give black women the empowerment that has always been their right, so she is starting a music festival called “Bitches Brew” for black women.

Dr. Goldston is a crypto educator, has helped found multiple DAOs, and is a collector and investor. He’s a professor of Project and Supply Chain Management at Penn State University. He has multiple ties to sustainability matters and issues. He’s the author of a forthcoming book called AI for Good.
Dr. Goldston offers a more in-depth definition of blockchain. He explains how it’s a digital ledger – and goes into more detail from there. He goes on to explain how blockchain will make a positive impact on the world – particularly to developing economies.
He goes on to talk about education to bring more people into the metaverse and web3. He also talks about how this will all tie into the real world (IRL).
Dr. Goldston shares how there are some amazing real-world applications of blockchain. He touches on the good, bad, and the ugly regarding circularity and blockchain.

      <title>Season 1 - Episode 6: Protecting your Intellectual Property with Jennifer Sanasie</title>
<description>Kamilah and Nova begin by talking about creators entering the Metaverse and Web 3 - but neglecting protecting their intellectual property.
How will blockchain and the new digital tools be protected?
Kamilah and Nova converse with Jennifer Sanasie, co-founder and CSO at the Rite Network – an NFT asset licensing network. She has a background in digital content, co-hosts The Hash - a show about crypto on Coindesk - and has created a lot of content (some of which has also been “borrowed” a time or two).
Building the technology to help creators with their ownership has been a major motivator for Jennifer.
Jennifer explains that NFTs (non-fungible tokens) are a “digital certificate of ownership” – rather than the media (creation) itself (photo, text, etc). NFTs can provide the holder with access to rewards, perks, and things to do both in the digital and physical world. Her expansive definition covers the digital and real-world application of NFTs.
The intellectual property (IP) problem began as a Web 2 problem – creators have always fought to protect their content. Web 3 offers tools that can help this issue by showing proof of ownership like NFTs that can help creators get due credit.
Nova, Kamilah, and Jennifer discuss licensing to give and gain access to content. Jennifer explains the boilerplate terms of the process. Rite Network is creating an affordable, easy, accessible platform for creators to set licensing terms to an NFT and help ensure people are acting on the given terms. They are also providing affordable arbitration to make a more accessible legal process.
Jennifer shares a couple of resources - ritenetwork.io and coindesk.com
Nova and Kamilah discuss how IP and all related to it can be an afterthought – but should not be ignored.
Kamilah shares that she is launching an accelerator program – impactaccelerator.global Nova shares her new project – Raine Drops – a new evolution of storytelling.

      <title>Season 1 - Episode 5 - The Metaverse and the Crypto-Economy with Nicolas Weber</title>
<description>Kamilah and Nova begin by talking about the numerous big brand businesses now entering into the metaverse. Kamilah muses about how the smaller brands without big budgets make their way in – particularly creators and independents. Which segues nicely into their guest.
Kamilah and Nova converse with Nicolas Weber, an early-stage crypto investor, and entrepreneur. Founder and CEO of DAC and founder of MGH (Meta Game Hub) DAO.
Nicolas shares his crypto origin story. He heard about Bitcoin from friends and did some research. Podcasts about blockchain, Etherium, and de-centralization caused him to take a deep dive into the technology itself.
Nicolas defines the metaverse as an open-metaverse – a broader ecosystem of multiple metaverses with different purposes and roles, as well as digital economies of their own. He discusses how Web 3 will allow more individual ownership than exists in Web 2 presently.
Blockchain and crypto are where value exchange – be it NFT or currency – will be more usable for people and potentially intuitive and more understandable. That’s what Nicolas sees for the metaverse.
Platforms for the interfaces are currently still Web 2 based – but they make it easier to move from fiat currency to cryptocurrency. Still, Nicolas explains how work is underway to make it all more intuitive.
More intuitive tools for greater mainstream adoption are still needed. Nicolas expounds on how the metaverse will impact the global economy. He advises creatives to learn by doing – but there are lots of different rabbit holes. Study it, try it out, acquire or drop some NFTs, and focus on organic community building.

      <title>Season 1 - Episode 4 - Music and the Metaverse</title>
<description>Kamilah and Nova converse with Jean Feier, musician and crypto investor and expert. She is also an award-nominated recording artist, entrepreneur, and investor who started writing music at age 9. Learning about blockchain technology led her to cofound Meta Game Hub (MGH) DAO.
Jean explains that she got involved with crypto as part of making connections. But more research led her to greater expertise and help create new solutions.
Jean explains how a DAO is a community working together for a common goal. It’s about combining knowledge and time to support a project you believe in moving forward into the future.
Jean explains why she is part of building a new decentralized (not held or controlled by a single point of power) music industry. She sees it as helping the artists retain control. The power gets put into everyone’s hands - rather than a select few with questionable motivations.
Learn about the Metaverse
Greater security and accountability are part of the reason to get into the Metaverse. But read the white paper of the project and learn just what it’s all about.
Kamilah and Nova discuss how education is imperative. Do your research. Get familiar with the tech and what it's used for. Surround yourself with people familiar with the community. Those involved have a tremendous eye towards problem-solving and “building the railroads” to the future.

<title>Season 1 - Episode 2 - What Does the Future of Being Paid in Crypto Look Like?</title>
<description>Kamilah and Nova discuss everything Web 3.0, cryptocurrency, the future of money, and how the creative industry should be brought up to date and educated about this.
Where do you start? Where do you begin? How do you navigate the available opportunities?
As we see major athletes asking to get paid in crypto – what does that mean and how will it look?
Creative and athlete XRP Moon Knight discusses this topic with Kamilah and Nova.
XRP Moon Knight got introduced to Bitcoin in 2019 or so. He started to research the major cryptos. It was XRP that drew him into the new financial system and all it's potential and possibility.
Why XRP? Why crypto?
XRP is the chosen standard currency for banks and the financial currency of the world. XRP was developed by Ripple Labs. After the 2008 crash, the system found it was not prepared. The new systems behind cryptocurrency move far faster than the current SWIFT (Society for Interbank Financial Worldwide Telecommunications) global system – and without all the middlemen and fees taking money in the process.
Being digital, all transactions are recorded – which adds transparency that the modern, centralized banking system often lacks.
XRP – unlike Bitcoin or Etherium – uses lower energy and transactions are incredibly fast. It is already pre-mined with a finite total. XRP can also convert and transfer value near-instantaneously.
Why get paid in crypto? Marketing to show what crypto is. It “looks cool” and draws attention to crypto. It’s faster than fiat money. You also can determine with crypto if you want to get paid a set fee or a number of coins – the latter letting you take advantage of value fluctuation.
Look for the White Paper. The white paper is the business plan, the proposal for why they are doing what they are doing, who is on the team, who they are partnered with, etc.
What is the future of being paid in crypto and the like?
The Metaverse will change a lot of things. Digital blocks of land are selling for millions. Banks are beginning to use crypto. Because of crypto’s speed, banks will have fewer costs. With the system moving – everything will go digital. Cash and like assets will remain – but the system will change.
New avenues and directions are coming - and the digital world is expanding. Even central banks will be or are creating digital currencies.
Cryptocurrency is an opportunity for more people to increase the value of work and participate in the new digital economy.
Cryptocurrency is a brand new asset class (like bonds were once a new asset class).

      <title>Season 1 - Episode 1 - Why Should Creatives Care About Crypto?</title>
<description>Kamilah and Nova discuss Web 3.0, cryptocurrency, the future of money, and how the creative industry should be brought up to date and educated about this.
The time is now. Creatives can be in control of what they do with their art, their finances – and these different advances and technology can serve them tremendously.
Crypto for Creatives is a resource to create a bridge between the creatives and the metaverse. Don’t get left behind – get educated and bridge the gap!
Creatives Nova and Kamilah and Their Crypto Stories
Nova learned about the cryptocurrency world in the early 2010’s – and missed that train. With NFTs, Nova intends to be on the train this time. She is taking the time to learn and understand the tech – and this show is all about helping other creatives learn, too.
Nova’s kids and their interests also have led her to see the new world of Web 3.0, the Metaverse, and how it will impact their lives.
Kamilah was in the financial services industry, has a close friend in IT, and loves gaming and innovative and sustainable tech. In 2016, as she learned about cryptocurrency she started to get involved.
What IS cryptocurrency?
Cryptocurrency is, “a digital or virtual currency that is secured by cryptography” making it difficult to counterfeit. It’s not issued by a central bank or government authority.
Fiat currency – what we use – is printed/produced money by governments who determine its value. Virtual currency’s value is user-determined and controlled.
Blockchain is akin to a Rubik’s cube that is where data is stored, encrypted (coded), and linked to other similar cubes of date. Once linked and encrypted they are very difficult to change and are transparent when it comes to oversite.
Blockchain goes beyond cryptocurrency, but also to tracking and transparency when it comes to fashion, for example.
NFTs – Non-fungible tokens are digital proof of ownership – which can be sold via blockchain to someone else – among other uses.
A decentralized network is spread out between servers and areas to spread the info and open the process to a broader audience.
Once the currency – Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and the like – has been “mined”, like fiat currency (Dollars, Euros, etc) it can be exchanged for goods and services. The staying power of these new currencies will be largely dependent on the tech behind them.
NFTs and blockchain are tools creatives can make more and more use of going forward into Web 3.0, the Metaverse, and beyond.
Crypto for Creatives is here to help artists and creatives understand and take advantage of this new future.

      <title>Season 1 - Episode 3 - Intro to NFTs</title>
<description>Kamilah and Nova discuss Web 3.0, cryptocurrency, NFTs (non-fungible tokens), and how the creative industry should be brought up to date and educated about this.
NFTs began as a “fad” in 2021 – and now that’s shifted tremendously.
Nova sees NFTs as an opportunity to liberate creatives and artists as it relates to financial stability.
Kamilah sees NFTs as creating an opportunity for greater access to the art – even if it’s not IRL (in real life).
What are NFTs
NFTs (non-fungible tokens) are something that can’t be exchanged for something similar (i.e. dollar to dollar, art to art, etc). It is on the blockchain – encrypted and coded, and part of a trackable, non-changeable proof of ownership.
Because art is universal, that’s why Nova thinks it’s a main starting point for NFTs. But they can be used for much more. Even real-world items – like a house – can be sold as an NFT.
Some NFT collections give access to parties, exclusive events, event tickets, and other exchanges. So they can carry over to the real world.
“NFTs are a way to activate your community.” – Kamilah.
An NFT can provide access, partial ownership, and many interactive possibilities.
Creatives and NFTs
Musicians can gain a lot of community-building access via NFTs.
Fans and followers in the past were less activated as a community. NFTs offer a way for artists and creatives to connect. That makes for more reward both ways.
This can help take the middleman out from between the creatives and their community.
There are many uses for NFTs that fashion designers can glean. They can create secondary streams of revenue.
Kamilah foresees this kind of technology being integrated into everything that we do. She thinks as the hype clears and people see more use cases, people will see it all more positively. That is a part of the goal of this podcast.
The Metaverse is a place where more creatives can find ways to sustain themselves.
