We complete our Nicholas Sparks “tic tac toe” between our podcasts, discuss the unspoken politics on display in this movie, and wonder why Channing is perpetually typecast as a soldier. We also talk about Amanda Seyfried being a monster in Dear John and how this movie ties into Avatar. Brian offers dating advice (or dating troll antics). Joey tries to explain GAC and GAF (and then forgets Channing’s titular name). We bring back all the Channing Tatum games.

014 GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009)

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is a difficult movie to talk about. Do we love it? Do we hate it? The reality: it's somewhere in between. G.I. Joe feels like the movie that Channing Tatum has been working his entire (short) career (so far), and he's genuinely great in it as a squadron leader. The problem: the movie is too long with too much nonsense. Oh well! The most important thing about this movie is that it hits the Channing Tatum superfecta: he dances, he fights, he's shirtless, and he strips. That's all that really matters. Got a thought? In August 2015, we released our very first podcast and proceeded to tear through Nicolas Cage’s filmography at a breakneck pace. We had no idea that we'd continue after we finished Cage’s filmography, but we asked, “What’s next?” and went from there. After nearly four years, we are releasing our 1,000th episode. Channing Tatum isn't the star of the film, though Rowdy Sparks is the star of this world, with adoring fans cheering him on at every turn. This movie has major problems -- most notably, incredibly sexist characterizations of its female characters -- but if you're looking for a movie where Channing Tatum rides a dirt bike (is this even the right term?), this is the movie for you. 003 Havoc (2005)

Channing Tatum might not be in much of Havoc, but it’s still a step in the right direction from his no-show last month. Havoc is a mess of a movie with a backstory more interesting than its plot, but one thing is certain: it needs a lot more Channing Tatum in it. We continue to struggle to come up with a nickname for Channing and an intro catchphrase for the podcast, but that doesn’t stop us from taking a (way too deep) dive into the weird history of Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and other actors you’d never imagine would be in a movie about gangbangers in Los Angeles. We also have a five minute conversation that will drive a lot of people crazy, point out the craziest/coolest/most L.A. thing ever, and Joey reveals a twisted familial lineage that simultaneously makes no sense and all too much sense. Then, in the games portion of the show, we have one of our best rounds of Fire Ass Titles ever and some of the most detailed and intricate guesses for next month’s film yet — including one that is so good and PLEASE LET IT BE THIS. 002 War of the Worlds (2005)

We made it all the way to the second episode of #MagicMics before we got to a movie without Channing Tatum. War of the Worlds is only the second Spielberg movie covered on the #CageClub Podcast Network, and only the second Tom Cruise movie covered as well. It's a shame, then, that not only is Channing Tatum not in the movie, but the movie isn't very good overall. His absence didn't stop us from talking about this movie for an hour, though, as we imagined what role(s) he'd be perfect in and as we reviewed whether or not our guesses for his shirtless, dancing, fighting, and stripping scenes in this film were correct. 001 Coach Carter (2005)

Considering Coach Carter is Channing Tatum's first movie, he's on screen for a remarkable amount of time. Sure, he leaves the movie down the stretch -- we can't all get what we want, all of the time -- but who in their right mind would play a defensive first white boy in a basketball game where you're down big and need to catch up in a hurry? Not Coach Carter, sir, no sir. Also, as an added bonus, we get some Channing Tatum freestyling PLUS two shirtless scenes. Will he wind up with a higher shirtless average than Zac Efron? It's a question we'll find out together at the end of this #MagicMics journey. Also, we need help coming up with a nickname for Channing, so email us and give us your suggestions, please.
