#MagicMics is back! Who knows how long it’ll last? (Email magicmics@cageclub.me if you want us to stick around.) We’re joined by Brian Rodriguez (Uncle Francis’s Wine Cellar, High School Slumber Party) to talk about the Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried film Dear John, based on the Nicholas Sparks novel. We complete our Nicholas Sparks “tic tac toe” between our podcasts, discuss the unspoken politics on display in this movie, and wonder why Channing is perpetually typecast as a soldier. We also talk about Amanda Seyfried being a monster in Dear John and how this movie ties into Avatar. Brian offers dating advice (or dating troll antics). Joey tries to explain GAC and GAF (and then forgets Channing’s titular name). We bring back all the Channing Tatum games.

014 GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009)

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is a difficult movie to talk about. Do we love it? Do we hate it? The reality: it's somewhere in between. G.I. Joe feels like the movie that Channing Tatum has been working his entire (short) career (so far), and he's genuinely great in it as a squadron leader. The problem: the movie is too long with too much nonsense. Oh well! The most important thing about this movie is that it hits the Channing Tatum superfecta: he dances, he fights, he's shirtless, and he strips. That's all that really matters.

The CageClub Podcast Network Celebrates its 1000th Episode!

In August 2015, we released our very first podcast and proceeded to tear through Nicolas Cage’s filmography at a breakneck pace. We had no idea that we'd continue after we finished Cage’s filmography, but we asked, “What’s next?” and went from there. After nearly four years, we are releasing our 1,000th episode.

In this episode, Joey Lewandowski talked many of your favorite CageClub Podcast Network hosts: Mike Manzi of Third Time’s A Charm, Joe Two of 2 Fast 2 Forever, Chris Podcasts of Now and Again, Brian Rodriguez of High School Slumber Party, Kyle Reinfried of Foodie Films, Jordan Polan-Clarke and Cara Gael O’Regan of Wistful Thinking, Aislinn Addington of The Contenders, Lindsay Gibb of Winona Forever, Jonah Rubino of X is for Podcast, and Nico Vasilo and Kevo Risse of .html.

Thank you for listening. Share your favorite episode or memory with us by emailing mailbag@cageclub.me!

013 Public Enemies (2009)

While we've already covered a movie for this podcast that Channing Tatum wasn't in, seeing him show up for one minute (of a 131 minute runtime) in Public Enemies somehow seems even more underwhelming. In this episode, we dust off the mailbag (which hasn't been opened in three months) and peer inside, then try to separate the story (blah) from the filmmaking (interesting!). Why are there so many known actors in here? Why was Channing Tatum cast? Is Christian Bale just playing Batman? All of these answers -- and more! -- on this episode of #MagicMics!

012 Smallfoot (2018)

We pumped the brakes on #MagicMics to focus our attention on 2 Fast 2 Forever, so what's another slight delay in programming? Before we get to Public Enemies, we're jumping all the way forward to Smallfoot, Channing Tatum's newest movie. It's strange watching a movie where Channing's role is so prevalent! Between the animation style, musical numbers, and the return of Zendaya, Smallfoot feels more like a #ZacAttack movie than a #MagicMics movie... so how does it compare to the rest of Channing's filmography? Listen and find out!

011 Fighting (2009)

Fighting reunites Channing Tatum with Dito Montiel after both Joes' favorite #MagicMics movie so far, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, but is the pairing as good the second time around? In this episode, we strip down to our undershirts to talk about Channing's many fight scenes, whether or not Terrence Howard is a good actor, and if this movie would be exactly the same if Channing Tatum was replaced by a dog.

Important! Fans of #MagicMics will want to listen for a scheduling change for upcoming episodes.

010 Stop-Loss (2008)

Stop-Loss marks the most intense movie covered on #MagicMics so far, pitting Channing Tatum as a military sharpshooter in Iraq. While Channing's part is bigger than many of his other films to date, his storyline is once again relegated to the background in favor of Ryan Phillippe's titular stop-loss narrative. That said, Channing has ample opportunities to fight and get shirtless, so we're making the most of this episode of #MagicMics, alongside special guest (and co-host of The Contenders) Aislinn Addington!

While Channing Tatum may not be in Step Up 2: The Streets all that much, the time spent reprising his role as Tyler Gage is pretty incredible. We knew Channing wasn't going to be in this movie a ton, but he plays a pivotal role in the film's first fifteen minutes, setting our new hero up for the journey she'll take to (street) dance superstardom.

Battle in Seattle marks our first true CageClub Podcast Network crossover, as both Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum are in this movie! The Watch The Theron and #MagicMics podcasts crossed over to cover this (disappointing) movie, directed by Charlize's long-time boyfriend (and Mike's mortal enemy) Stuart Townsend, in his directorial debut.

006 A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (2006)

While Channing Tatum and Shia LaBeouf may not be altar boys unknowingly competing for the affection of their superiors, the world of A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints still has Italian blood running through its veins. Channing plays Antonio, an angry, young Italian man who parades through the movie shirtless and ready for a fight in a movie that Joe Two likens to Harmony Korine's Kids.

It's time for a very special episode of #MagicMics. Following the announcement that Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum plan to lovingly separate as a couple, Joey and Joe decided to switch up the script and tackle Step Up this month. What better way to honor a marriage than by seeing where it all began?

004 Supercross (2005)

Supercross is the movie Joe Two has been waiting for, and boy did it ever come through with flying colors. Channing Tatum isn't the star of the film, though Rowdy Sparks is the star of this world, with adoring fans cheering him on at every turn. This movie has major problems -- most notably, incredibly sexist characterizations of its female characters -- but if you're looking for a movie where Channing Tatum rides a dirt bike (is this even the right term?), this is the movie for you.

003 Havoc (2005)

Channing Tatum might not be in much of Havoc, but it’s still a step in the right direction from his no-show last month. Havoc is a mess of a movie with a backstory more interesting than its plot, but one thing is certain: it needs a lot more Channing Tatum in it. We continue to struggle to come up with a nickname for Channing and an intro catchphrase for the podcast, but that doesn’t stop us from taking a (way too deep) dive into the weird history of Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and other actors you’d never imagine would be in a movie about gangbangers in Los Angeles. We also have a five minute conversation that will drive a lot of people crazy, point out the craziest/coolest/most L.A. thing ever, and Joey reveals a twisted familial lineage that simultaneously makes no sense and all too much sense. Then, in the games portion of the show, we have one of our best rounds of Fire Ass Titles ever and some of the most detailed and intricate guesses for next month’s film yet — including one that is so good and PLEASE LET IT BE THIS.

002 War of the Worlds (2005)

We made it all the way to the second episode of #MagicMics before we got to a movie without Channing Tatum. War of the Worlds is only the second Spielberg movie covered on the #CageClub Podcast Network, and only the second Tom Cruise movie covered as well. It's a shame, then, that not only is Channing Tatum not in the movie, but the movie isn't very good overall. His absence didn't stop us from talking about this movie for an hour, though, as we imagined what role(s) he'd be perfect in and as we reviewed whether or not our guesses for his shirtless, dancing, fighting, and stripping scenes in this film were correct. (Spoiler alert: he was not in this movie, so they were all wrong... but not completely wrong!) Got a thought? Want to share a picture of strippers? Email us at magicmics@cageclub.me.

001 Coach Carter (2005)

Considering Coach Carter is Channing Tatum's first movie, he's on screen for a remarkable amount of time. Sure, he leaves the movie down the stretch -- we can't all get what we want, all of the time -- but who in their right mind would play a defensive first white boy in a basketball game where you're down big and need to catch up in a hurry? Not Coach Carter, sir, no sir. Also, as an added bonus, we get some Channing Tatum freestyling PLUS two shirtless scenes. Will he wind up with a higher shirtless average than Zac Efron? It's a question we'll find out together at the end of this #MagicMics journey. Also, we need help coming up with a nickname for Channing, so email us and give us your suggestions, please.
