Meet cerebral palsy soccer legend Adam Ballou

And after that, he never looked back: Adam was first called into the U.S. Men’s Cerebral Palsy (CP) National Team when he was 14. Since then the midfielder has amassed almost 100 caps and represented his country in two Paralympic Games. Adam was also a part of the CP team that won the 2025 Copa America for the first time.

In this wide-ranging interview, the two USWNT icons divide their shared history into three eras that span Christen and Kling’s early disappointments, the high of winning a World Cup, and their present-day reality: a never-ending offseason. It’s an interview that’s revealing, surprising and hilarious.

The legendary USWNT goalkeeper sits down with friend, host and former teammate Meghan Klingenberg (2:35). The two have known each other since they were 12 years old and reminisce on some of their favorite memories growing up together playing soccer, including the confident letter they penned asking FIFA to implement a U-17 Women’s World Cup (13:00).

Naeher goes into further details about her career and her position, including what first drew her to the controlled chaos of goalkeeping (17:00). She delves into some of the lesser-known moments of her career, including her stint with the Boston Breakers in the WPS (37:00) and what she learned serving as a backup goalkeeper in the USWNT’s run to FIFA 2015 World Cup champions (43:20).

Six players from the most recent USMNT camp are headed to the MLS All-Star Game in Austin, Texas on July 23. Max Arfsten (Columbus Crew), Sebastian Berhalter (Vancouver Whitecaps), Alex Freeman (Orlando City SC), Diego Luna (Real Salt Lake), Miles Robinson (FC Cincinnati) and Brian White (Vancouver Whitecaps) will have the chance to represent their clubs at the highly anticipated event.

Patrick Agyemang was also named an MLS All-Star but transferred from Charlotte FC to Derby County in the EFL Championship on July 15.
