how to grieve a life you never got to live

welcome back to live a little with nikki lilly... this week comes with a gentle note that nikki is diving deep into grief and loss.

nikki opens with open tabs - the tab she's loving, the tab living rent free and the tab that needs closing.

but this episode is really about something nikki's been unpicking in therapy - what it's like to grieve a version of yourself that you never got to have or a life you didn't get to live. when nikki was diagnosed at six years old, she completely changed as a person... that little girl who thought life was magical and open-ended, who wanted to be a fairy when she grew up and meant it - she got pulled away too soon.

nikki gets deeply vulnerable about grief mourning, realising she's been grieving someone who is still alive (herself), and how her therapist challenged her to think about her 44-year-old self looking back.

this episode also introduces the fig tree theory from sylvia plath's the bell jar, nikki reflects on grief and she talks about becoming someone her younger self would have needed - someone safe, gentle, someone who stays and keeps going when she isn't able to.

if you've ever grieved a version of yourself, a person you lost, a path that closed, or futures that didn't get chosen... this one's for you.

don't forget to subscribe and don't miss new episodes every thursday!

it's time to say no to people pleasing with tobie donovan

welcome back to live a little.. this week nikki, is sitting down with actor and longtime friend tobie donovan (from heartstopper)!

nikki and tobie dive straight into cinema room dreams, the academy museum in LA (dorothy's shoes! maria's dress! the shark from jaws!), and letterboxd panic about whether to be honest or cool with your top four films.

tobie opens up about the pivotal moment that made him want to act - seeing the gender-swapped production of company in the west end with jonathan bailey, he talks about wanting to tell stories in unexpected ways and create space for himself in the industry.

nikki and tobie also get real about the pressure of being a people pleaser, learning to say no (tobie's been working on it in therapy), and why it's so hard to put yourself first when you're wired to make everyone else comfortable.

they also discuss rejection in the acting world - how you can't internalise every no as personal and the importance of separating your value from the yes or no. tobie's wisdom? if you can't brush off rejection, you can't do the job.

if you've ever struggled with people-pleasing, felt the weight of constant rejection, or just needed to hear that journaling might actually help... this one's for you.

how do i stop waiting and starting living?

on this episode of live a little with nikki lilly... nikki is getting real about something she's been spiralling about recently: how her world has become very, very small, and how she keeps waiting for the right moment instead of actually living.

nikki opens up about living life like it's a waiting room - waiting to feel better, waiting to be less tired, waiting to be more confident, waiting for some perfect version of herself that doesn't exist... she gets honest about shutting down ideas before they even begin and accidentally living as if her life hasn't really started yet.

nikki talks about being on autopilot and how her brain focuses on the one bad thing that happened instead of acknowledging the ten minutes she sat in the sun. she reflects on treating life like a draft - a temporary version that's not quite ready yet - and how we postpone joy for weekends that never come and save outfits for better versions of ourselves.

this episode is full of practical, gentle ways to stop waiting and start living. nikki shares her list of things she wants to start doing and she talks about the power of nature, doing things badly and imperfectly and the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique for feeling more present.

if you've ever postponed your life until things calm down, or saved spontaneity for a future version of yourself... this one's for you.

recovery is possible with ben west (part 2)

trigger warning: this episode contains discussions of suicide, grief, trauma, and mental health struggles

on this episode of live a little, we're picking up from last week's episode, as nikki lilly is once again joined by mental health advocate and campaigner ben west.

our conversation starts with ben explaining why his brother, sam, believed that once you got depression, you never don't have depression - a mindset that convinced him he could never get back up. ben and nikki talk about how this is absolutely not the case, and how even with lifelong illnesses like bipolar disorder, people can live very happy, healthy lives.

they discuss the power of hope and why 'reasons to stay' exists - because the only person truly qualified to tell someone it gets better is someone who's been there and made it through.

ben shares one of his favourite letters from reasons to stay, and nikki shares her own journey through PTSD and depression, and how clinical depression creates that tunnel vision where your brain can only remember the bad times.

they explore why we need to practice finding things to live for, the nitty-gritty of emotional vocabulary, how to improve emotional literacy and why there's so much pressure to "fix" someone when really they just need to be heard.

if you've ever felt like things will never get better, or you've struggled to find the right words to help someone... this one's for you.

our conversation starts with ben explaining why his brother, sam, believed that once you got depression, you never don't have depression - a mindset that convinced him he could never get back up. ben and nikki talk about how this is absolutely not the case, and how even with lifelong illnesses like bipolar disorder, people can live very happy, healthy lives.

they discuss the power of hope and why 'reasons to stay' exists - because the only person truly qualified to tell someone it gets better is someone who's been there and made it through.

ben shares one of his favourite letters from reasons to stay, and nikki shares her own journey through PTSD and depression, and how clinical depression creates that tunnel vision where your brain can only remember the bad times.

they explore why we need to practice finding things to live for, the nitty-gritty of emotional vocabulary, how to improve emotional literacy and why there's so much pressure to "fix" someone when really they just need to be heard.

if you've ever felt like things will never get better, or you've struggled to find the right words to help someone... this one's for you.

mental health is not mental illness with ben west (part 1)

trigger warning: this episode contains discussions of suicide, grief, trauma, and mental health struggles

on this episode of live a little, nikki lilly is joined by someone she's admired for a long time - mental health advocate and campaigner ben west.

this is an episode that's especially important to nikki, and it's the first time she's had a male guest on the podcast (and if it had to be anyone, she's glad it's ben).

this conversation goes deep: ben opens up about feeling exhausted for the right reasons - tired from work that's purposeful and matters and feeling genuinely happy and settled for the first time in a long time. nikki and ben discuss the difference between mental health and mental illness (why we need to understand that everyone has mental health, not just people who are struggling), and how we've gotten stuck in a system that only focuses on stopping people from getting worse instead of creating hope for recovery.

ben shares heartbreaking insights about his brother sam, who was convinced that once you got depression, you never don't have depression - a belief that left him feeling there was no way back up. they talk about why mental health education needs to be instilled in schools where kids spend most of their formative years, the lack of resources and ben's vision for an education system that prioritises social emotional learning over just academic subjects.

this is part one of a two-part conversation about hope, prevention and recovery.

what the oscars was actually like

welcome back to live a little with nikki lilly... your girl is back from los angeles and the oscars, and she's ready to debrief!

in this episode, nikki takes us through the entire LA trip - from the 35-degree heat that had her sweating off her makeup (goodbye bomber jacket, hello vest tops) to the absolutely chaotic rush hour drive home that should've been 50 minutes but took two and a half hours.

but the real tea? the oscars carpet. nikki gets honest about the entire experience - how it actually went, whether her anxieties from the pre-oscars episode came true, and what it felt like to be there in real time.

she reflects on watching back her pre-oscars podcast episode and realising she answered all her own questions with positive outcomes, which feels full circle and incredibly special.

nikki also opens up about something unexpected - how live a little has become a vehicle for making genuine friendships in an industry where that's really hard. she talks about seeing charithra chandran at the same hotel (they're on the same floor!), emily carey sending her the sweetest message on oscars day, and how interviewing people for the podcast bridges that gap from "parasocial friends on social media" to actual real connections.

this is an episode of gratitude, reflection, and remembering to hold onto the light.

welcome back to live a little with nikki lilly... and we're picking up right where we left off with charithra chandran for part two of this honest, vulnerable conversation.

this episode starts with charithra answering nikki's question from last week about her biggest regret of assimilation - and it's a painful memory...

nikki and charithra share their school experiences, the hilarious and heartbreaking reality of being invisible to boys at school and the space it gave them to do incredible things.

charithra also opens up about her relationship with her south asian identity and how her show "how to date billy walsh" celebrates that world. they talk about the politics of food, breaking boundaries with representation, and the episode wraps with a fun hot seat game!

if you've ever felt invisible, stayed silent to protect yourself, or spent your childhood trying to be anyone but you... this one's for you.

being different is the currency with charithra chandran (pt 1)

we've got a very special guest on this episode of live a little! nikki is sitting down with british actor charithra chandran!

you might recognise charithra chandran from her starring roles in bridgerton (as edwina sharma), alex rider (on amazon prime), how to date billy walsh and dune: prophecy!

nikki and charithra dive straight into the realities of being in the entertainment industry - from the anxiety of going to events and making graceful irish exits, to the weird pendulum swing of working 12+ hour days on set and then suddenly being completely alone.

charithra opens up about how she's had to shift from being type-a to type-b for her own sanity, learning to protect her peace and how we've become a culture that defines our value purely by work success.

this episode is just the first part of nikki's conversation with charithra... stay tuned for the second part next week!

grab a cup of tea, get cosy and remember - being different is the currency.

we've got a very special guest on this episode of live a little! nikki is sitting down with british actor charithra chandran!

you might recognise charithra chandran from her starring roles in bridgerton (as edwina sharma), alex rider (on amazon prime), how to date billy walsh and dune: prophecy!

nikki and charithra dive straight into the realities of being in the entertainment industry - from the anxiety of going to events and making graceful irish exits, to the weird pendulum swing of working 12+ hour days on set and then suddenly being completely alone.

charithra opens up about how she's had to shift from being type-a to type-b for her own sanity, learning to protect her peace and how we've become a culture that defines our value purely by work success.

this episode is just the first part of nikki's conversation with charithra... stay tuned for the second part next week!

grab a cup of tea, get cosy and remember - being different is the currency.

i was invited to the Oscars!

we have an super exciting episode of live a little for you... as nikki lilly shares the behind the scenes exclusive of her invitation to the attend the Oscars (aka the biggest night in film!).

nikki takes us through the surreal journey of how she even got here - from a casual coffee meeting with the academy in april, to finally getting the invite in november.

she opens up about the imposter syndrome that's keeping her up at night, the anxiety of being on the biggest carpet in america for the first time and the fear of standing there while photographers ignore her for timothée chalamet or brad pitt.

nikki also gets real about why this moment is so massive - not just for her personally, but for the facial difference community... and she also gives the full scoop on the story behind her iconic outfit!

if you've ever held back your excitement just in case, or felt like you don't belong in rooms you're being invited into... this one's for you.

don't forget to subscribe and don't miss new episodes every thursday!

i'm a kind person, not a nice person

welcome back to live a little... this week's episode title might sound a bit harsh, but hear nikki out - because she's learned there's a massive difference between being a nice person and being a kind person.

nikki dives into why she doesn't want to be nice anymore - and no, it's not about being mean. she gets real about how being "nice" became a survival mechanism for her, especially in her teenage years. being nice meant putting everyone else's feelings above her own just to be accepted.

nikki opens up about shrinking herself in friendships that were never meant for her and being so scared of confrontation that she'd agree with whatever anyone said just to avoid being dropped (spoiler: she got dropped anyway).

but being kind? that's different. being kind means having integrity, holding boundaries, telling the truth even when it's uncomfortable, and protecting what's real - including yourself.

nikki shares how she's shifted from clutching tighter to toxic friendships to being comfortable walking away from things that don't serve her anymore, and why she'd rather be uncomfortable for five minutes than abandon herself for five years.

if you've ever apologised for existing, watered dead plants, or stayed on the wrong train way too long... this one's for you.

don't forget to subscribe and don't miss new episodes every thursday!

who am i according to myers-briggs?

welcome back to live a little with nikki lilly... on this episode, nikki is fresh off speaking at the united nations (!!) and she's ready to dive into something completely different - personality tests.

nikki kicks things off with a new sub-segment called "open tabs" - basically everything that's been living rent free in her head this week. from being obsessed with the winter olympics, to that heartbreaking video of a monkey in thailand.

but the main event? nikki's retaking the myers-briggs personality test after doing it years ago at 13 or 14. she's walking us through the entire test live, answering every single question out loud and sharing her thoughts as she goes.

she gets real about how her answers have changed since she was a teenager and she reflects on how she used to be such a people pleaser that she led purely with emotion and meaning, but now she's learned to value facts and certainty too (hello, sensing over intuition).

this episode is a reflection on self-growth and giving yourself space to be proud of the person you have become!

grab a cup of tea, maybe take the test alongside her, and let's figure out our four letters together.

don't forget to subscribe and don't miss new episodes every thursday!

finding comfort during hard days (live a letters)

welcome back to live a little with nikki lilly... this week it's another live a letters episode, where nikki answers your questions, dilemmas, and everything in between!

on this episode, nikki is diving into five really good questions from the live a little community. from how to find comfort during hard mental health days (including some guilty pleasure tv watches!) to her favourite/least favourite parts of herself.

nikki also takes on a particularly important question: how do you handle your friends hanging out with someone who's wronged you? nikki breaks down the nuances and she shares her own recent experience of quietly distancing herself from friends who she felt hurt by, and how protecting her peace made space for healthier friendships.

if you've ever wondered whether your feelings are valid, whether it's okay to walk away, or just need someone to tell you that being average at everything is actually completely fine... this one's for you.

don't forget to subscribe and don't miss new episodes every thursday!

romanticising being alone

this week's episode of live a little is an honest one, filmed the day after nikki had a nosebleed at a bafta event - so she's not quite herself, but that's exactly the point.

in this episode, nikki lilly is diving into what it's really like to go quiet for a while, and why romanticising being alone doesn't have to feel shameful or scary. she gets real about the difference between enjoying your own company and being seen alone - and why the fear of looking lonely has held so many of us back from actually living.

this episode explores the concept of jomo (joy of missing out) versus fomo and how spending time alone can actually be restorative rather than something to avoid. nikki breaks down the difference between peaceful solitude and anxious isolation, and why props in public (books, notebooks, headphones) can help soothe your nervous system while you practice being comfortable in your own company.

if you've ever felt like you're postponing your life until someone else presses play, or if being seen alone feels like a humiliation ritual... this one's for you.

when milestone's don't make sense with emily carey

welcome back to live a little with nikki lilly... this week is extra special because we have our very first guest!

nikki is sitting down with actor emily carey. you might recognise emily from all of our favourite shows, including netflix's geek girl and hbo's house of the dragon.

on this episode, emily gets real about why school wasn't a good place for them, being a self-proclaimed geek, and how acting gave them a sense of purpose and belonging when nothing else did.

they dive into the complicated reality of having parts of your life accelerated far beyond your peers - paying rent, living alone, working - while feeling behind in the "normal" teenage experiences like friendships and socialising.

nikki and emily talk about the myth of having it all figured out, why milestone ages feel skewed when your childhood looks different, and the pressure of toxic positivity in the entertainment industry.

if you've ever felt like you've lived a lot of life but also not enough of it, this conversation is for you. grab a cup of tea, get cosy and remember - it's okay to be a work in progress.

don't forget to subscribe and don't miss new episodes every thursday!

when control feels like safety

Trigger Warning: This episode contains discussions about eating disorders and weight loss.

in this vulnerable and deeply personal episode of live a little, nikki is diving into the topic of control - how it shows up in our lives in both healthy and unhealthy ways, and why we clutch onto it so tightly when everything else feels uncertain.

nikki gets real about losing control over her body and childhood when she was diagnosed at six years old, and how that sent her searching for anything that felt like hers.

she opens up about experiences that she has never spoken about publicly before, and the importance of finding healthy outlets (like makeup and fashion) for self-soothing. nikki shares the voices that still linger, and her biggest lessons from such a dark time.

if you've ever felt like you're quietly drowning while trying to keep your feet above water, this one's for you.

the importance of varied friendships

in 2026, we’re all about not having friends that are copy-paste identical to you.

on this episode of live a little, nikki lilly is diving into why it’s so important to be surrounded by people who don’t think, look or live exactly like you in order to grow!

when we’re young, similarity draws us together – but, as we get older, differences in life experiences can deepen our connections and world view!

nikki is also calling out the pressure to have friends at the same life stage, the fear that different opinions are red flags and why people-pleasing made her shrink her own views to match everyone else's.

this one's about letting go of the "you're just like me" trope and realising that the healthiest friendships gently challenge you without making you feel small.

<itunes:summary>in 2026, we’re all about not having friends that are copy-paste identical to you.

on this episode of live a little, nikki lilly is diving into why it’s so important to be surrounded by people who don’t think, look or live exactly like you in order to grow!

when we’re young, similarity draws us together – but, as we get older, differences in life experiences can deepen our connections and world view!

nikki is also calling out the pressure to have friends at the same life stage, the fear that different opinions are red flags and why people-pleasing made her shrink her own views to match everyone else's.

this one's about letting go of the "you're just like me" trope and realising that the healthiest friendships gently challenge you without making you feel small.

why it's so hard to de-center the male gaze

we're starting the new year the way we intend to continue: getting deeply honest.

on this episode of live a little, nikki lilly is opening up about the male gaze, pretty privilege and what it's like to grow up without external validation - especially from boys.

she's unpacking how growing up with a facial difference meant never being "chosen" at school, always being the friend that boys would come to about other girls and how that shaped her self-worth in ways she's still unpicking today.

nikki talks about romanticising tiny interactions because they were so rare, being terrified to even look boys in the eye, and convincing herself from age 8 that she'd probably be alone forever.

but she's also exploring the flip side and shares a healing conversation with a male friend who reminded her she's defined by so much more than her face.

this one's about learning that you're not defined by who finds you attractive!

ins & outs for 2026

welcome back to your soft corner of the internet... and happy new year!

on this episode of live a little, nikki is kicking off 2026 with her annual "ins and outs" - but this isn't about becoming a new person or setting impossible resolutions, it's about what she wants to move towards and what she's leaving behind (spoiler: no more "cores" or celebrity worship, please).

nikki's getting real about why new years can feel heavy and full of dread instead of hopeful, and why she doesn't feel like she's changed at all this year (which is actually okay).

she's unpacking her ins for 2026 (from shopping in person to low-budget indie everything) and her outs (including dress codes that stress you out and self-diagnosing on the internet).

remember that getting through a year is success enough - you don't need a personality overhaul or glow-up to prove anything! so, grab your tea and settle in for a gentle, honest start to the new year.

don't forget to subscribe and catch new episodes every thursday!

when christmas isn’t very merry

christmas isn't always the most wonderful time of the year, and on this episode of live a little, nikki is getting real about the two sides of christmas - the magical, nostalgic side vs the heavy, complicated reality that so many actually experience.

nikki is opening up about how christmas used to be her favourite time of year as a kid (hello argos catalogue and santa tracker!), but how health trauma and life's complications have made it feel more like survival than celebration. she talks about the pressure to perform happiness when you're not feeling it and why days like christmas can feel so much heavier when you're just not okay.

she's also unpacking why it's okay to not love christmas, why "just be grateful" is actually really damaging to hear, and how she's learning to make winter feel a bit lighter through small things.

this one's for anyone who's ever felt like they're bringing the mood down just by existing, or who's masking their way through a day that's supposed to be “the happiest time of year”.

i miss being cringe

everyone has a cringe era, and on this episode of live a little, nikki lilly wants to re-embrace being cringe all over again.

nikki is unpacking why we have lost the ability to just... exist without worrying about being perceived. she also gets real about constantly questioning whether she actually likes something or just likes it because everyone else does, and how exhausting it is to never know what's genuinely yours.

we're also reminiscing about the days of embarrassing fashion phases, glee club, and urban dictionary deep dives - and why skipping cringe = not being able to find your true self.

grab your tea and settle in - because this one's about to make you want to do something embarrassing this week (in the best way).

what having a chronic illness is actually like

welcome back to live a little with nikki lilly - your cosy corner of the internet.

on this episode, nikki gets raw about chronic illness and why we need to stop romanticising struggle. she's unpacking how social media trends and "inspirational" narratives can actually be pretty toxic when you're living through something genuinely hard.

nikki opens up about her AVM diagnosis at six years old, 98 operations (and counting), and how her childhood became defined by hospitals instead of hobbies.

she's also calling out the well-meaning but damaging things people say when they don't know how to sit with someone's pain... from "the universe only gives you what you can handle" to "just run a bath and get a takeaway." nikki shares what the right thing to offer someone struggling actually is...

settle in for a conversation about what real support actually looks like.

how i’m figuring out my 20s

welcome to the very first episode of live a little with nikki lilly... we're so excited to meet you in this new space!

in this very first episode, nikki is diving into the pressure to have everything figured out in your 20s and the art of learning to take up space. she's all in on the messiness of not knowing what's next and living authentically - even when it's not cool.

nikki also gets real about being a people pleaser, why setting new year's resolutions is out this december... and why comparing yourself to everyone's highlight reels on social media is a fast track to misery.

grab a cup of tea, get cosy and let's figure it out together.

don't forget to subscribe and don't miss new episodes every thursday!
