The Recovery Blueprint: Building Recovery Ecosystems

The Recovery Blueprint: Building Recovery Ecosystems is the official podcast of The ARCHway Institute's national campaign to build, fund, and support recovery ecosystems across the United States. Each episode goes behind the scenes of a five-year movement uniting communities, employers, government leaders, recovery providers, and advocates around one goal: creating connected systems where people in recovery can find lasting pathways to employment, housing, healthcare, and community.

Hosted by Dr. Stephanie Hutter-Thomas, the show talks with the people doing the work — community organizers, state leaders, employers, and recovery providers from Arkansas, Missouri, Ohio, Florida, and beyond — to unpack what it actually takes to move a community from isolated services to a true recovery ecosystem. Listeners get real strategy, real partnerships, and real stories of what's working on the ground, episode by episode, state by state.

This isn't just a campaign. It's a blueprint. And it starts here.

Building Recovery Together

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Recovery Blueprint. Today, we dive into a heartfelt conversation with Angela Roberts, Director of Business Development at Sana Lake Recovery. Her insights and experiences offer a unique perspective on addiction treatment and the importance of community in fostering recovery.

Angela’s Journey to Recovery

Angela's story is one of resilience and transformation. With over 15 years in the addiction treatment field and as a person in long-term recovery herself, her path began unexpectedly when she was sent to treatment by an employer. "I was one of the lucky ones that they were very substance use friendly," she reflects. This pivotal moment shaped her career and ignited her passion for helping others.

A defining incident in Angela's life was when her aunt, who struggled with heroin addiction, reappeared in her life after a long absence. "I never want another family member... to experience that," she shares. This personal connection fuels her dedication to helping others achieve a meaningful life free from addiction.

Day-to-Day at Sana Lake

At Sana Lake, Angela leads a team of outreach coordinators, all of whom are certified peer support specialists. "It’s just been amazing to see the progression with that," she says. Her role involves not only managing her team but also advocating for veterans and first responders, a cause she holds dear due to her family background.

The Members for Life Program

One of the standout initiatives at Sana Lake is the **Members for Life** program, which Angela describes as the most robust alumni program she has encountered. This program fosters a sense of family and community among those in recovery. Activities include comedy nights, karaoke, and family-friendly outings, all aimed at building recovery capital. "When you come to Sana Lake, you're a family member for life," Angela emphasizes.

Navigating the Recovery Journey

The journey at Sana Lake begins with outreach. Individuals can reach out to their outreach coordinator, Nick Singer, for assistance. Angela assures that they are committed to helping everyone, regardless of insurance status, which speaks volumes about Sana Lake’s mission to provide comprehensive care.

A Call to Community

Angela’s passion for recovery is infectious. Her commitment to helping others navigate their paths is a reminder of the vital role community plays in recovery. As she beautifully puts it, “If I can just help one more person live a life worth meaning, I think the better off we'll be.”

Join us in celebrating Angela's work and the incredible team at Sana Lake Recovery. Their dedication to fostering a supportive environment for recovery is an inspiration to many.
