Stranger Things Season 5 Finale Review - Well that was a very messy season. I can confidently say that Vecna sucks as a villain and the show would have been much better off without him. Really, this entire Season 5 of Stranger Things could have skipped over like 80% of the nonsense and gone right to the last 20 minutes. A very solid 20 minutes, at that. Stranger Things had one of the best first seasons of television ever and ever since, coasted on that greatness. Getting too big for its own good by the 4th season and never recovering. At least we got some great closure and the show will live on for generations to come. The Smashing Machine is bombing hard at the box office. The new A24 film was set to put Dwayne Johnson on the map as a serious actor who could potentially be recognized come award season. While that may still very well happen, The Smashing Machine is unfortunately not leaving a dent with the audience. The Smashing Machine is not even coming close to making back its budget. The box office numbers are terrible after 10 days on the market and the 2nd week showed a 73% drop in audience interest. The Rock has not been cooking lately but I'm sure Jumanji 3 will turn things around for him.

Unknown Number: The High School Catfish Movie Review - I checked out the new Netflix documentary about the teenage girl (Lauryn Licari) that was catfished by a stranger for 2 years. Lauryn received terrible messages, often teasing her appearance and relationship with her boyfriend, Owen McKenny. High School was miserable for these two, as they couldn't escape the constant barrage of cyberbullying. Eventually law enforcement and the FBI were involved, leading to a crazy final reveal. I found the movie to be interesting but not enough to sustain a full 90 minute runtime.

I thought Elio looked pretty terrible based on the trailers but I went out to see it regardless. I found the movie to be a perfect family adventure with some heart, some laughs and some fun characters. It's not near the top of the Pixar catalog but it's still a lot better than the other recent Disney offerings. Give Elio a watch!

Bride Hard Movie Review - Well that was terrible. Bride Hard might be the worst movie of the year. That says a lot, as I just recently watched Hurry Up Tomorrow. Some of the gals from Pitch Perfect star in this action comedy, that contains very little action and zero comedy. Rebel Wilson is not convincing for even a second as a spy and the rest of the cast just seems sad to be there. They should. This movie sucks hard.

Pixar's new film Elio comes out very soon but the hype surrounding the film is almost non-existent. The early box office predictions are terrible, considering the film has a $300 million dollar budget. Lilo & Stich and How To Train Your Dragon are still over performing, which might cut into Elio's revenue stream. Jurassic World and Superman are coming out shortly which will also keep audiences from seeing the new Disney/Pixar original. Ana De Armas stars as the action star, although Keanu Reeves was clearly pulled in because the studio got scared it would bomb without him. Their fears were sound but it's bombing even with him involved. In fact, he might be one of the factors why it's not doing so hot, given his $15 million dollar price tag, to be involved. I HATE The Matrix Resurrections With All My Heart

The Matrix Resurrections (The Matrix 4) is, in my opinion, the worst movie sequel ever created. Not the worst movie but easily the most insulting sequel to ever hit screens. The original trilogy is iconic for a reason. It shaped action films for a generation. It gave us amazing characters. It had extremely memorable action with top-notch choreography. This new movie removes all of that and instead focuses on a stupid story with meta commentary as the primary driver. There have been a lot of theories as to why this movie turned out the way it did but none of them honestly matter. At the end of the day, The Matrix Resurrections is terrible. It lacks the appeal and craft of the original. I hate this movie from top to bottom and for the next 40 minutes, I tell you exactly why!

I can't really get passed any of the decisions made with this film. The director has already preemptively stated there is a much better version to be seen. The film is split into 2 parts, ending on a really awful cliffhanger. The scale is somehow large and tiny at the same time. Nothing has weight. There are no stakes. It's just there. It's all just there. I hated this.

The Marvels Movie Review - Is It Actually Good?

The Marvels movie review. Brie Larson is back as Captain Carol Danvers. This time around she has a team though with Miss Marvel and Monica Rambeau. I'm not sure if anyone actually cares about the MCU but they better do their homework going into this or they may be confused. The Marvels requires a good amount of pregame knowledge. Which includes watching several Disney+ TV shows and movies from the MCU. If not, you will get very quick backstory but not much else. I found The Marvels to be a fast, fun and solid superhero movie. It's nothing amazing but it had enough going for it that I didn't leave upset or annoyed. It's far better than Captain Marvel too thanks to a better cast, snappier length and fun twist on the powers. Not a bad watch!

Epic Films or Endless Slogs? Tackling the 'Movies are Too Long' Debate!

I need to yell this one more time for the back row. MOVIES ARE TOO LONG NOW! I miss the 90 minute runtimes that were more common in the 90s. A fast runtime can make a somewhat mediocre experience far more enjoyable. "Leaving an audience wanting more" used to be the main goal. Now it's "Leave the audience wanting less" and I'm not having it! Now, there are plenty of films that earn the lengthy runtime but more often than not, shaving 20 minute off doesn't seem to have a negative effect. In fact, it's preferable.

Movie Budgets Are Insanely High!

In an effort to entice moviegoers to see a new film, Hollywood studios have decided to pour tons of money into a movie's production costs. Films like Fast & the Furious, that used to have a meager budget have now ballooned to over $300 million dollars to make. Indiana Jones, Mission: Impossible and new Pixar films are having the same issue. This makes a return on investment incredible hard or outright impossible. Studios need to calm down on their budgets and bring down the runtime and the scale. We will all be better for it!

The MCU Is Lame And The DCEU Is Dead - Superhero Fatigue Is Real!

It has finally happened. Superhero movies are now lame. At least, in this current climate. The MCU went from trendsetter to lackluster in the last few years. The multiverse made everything incredibly pointless. The DCEU isn't doing so hot either. In fact it died. The Snyderverse is over and the remaining films are bombing at the box office. Shazam 2 and The Flash lost money; lots of money. I'm guessing Blue Beetle is about to bomb too. Audiences are losing interest and are now spending their money on films like Barbie and Oppenheimer. I'm actually happy to see non-cap stuff getting supported again, it's just too bad it came at the cost of the whole superhero industry failing. Hopefully James Gunn can turn things around with his new DCU, starting with Superman: Legacy. Disney needs to learn a lesson here too. Stop pandering and over-producing content. Get back to good storytelling and take your time. The MCU can still be salvaged but it's going to require taking a step back and really putting in some effort again.

I want to really think about what these actors brought to the roles and why trying to replicate and recapture that magic almost never works out.

Some roles seem almost tailor made for actors. Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones and Han Solo. Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt. Stallone as Rocky and Rambo. Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Terminator. Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. There are tons of amazing performances that are hard to replicate.

I go over not just actors being replaced but also movie reboots/remakes/etc. and why a lot of people are so stand-offish about the prospect. Some films got it so right the first time, you don't want to see a part of that memory getting pushed away or replaced.
