But while this might make sense today, it wasn't all that long ago that South Carolina was actually the wealthier, larger and more important Carolina. So what happened and why does North Carolina have so many more people than South Carolina?

Before Seattle really got on a roll, Tacoma appeared to have everything going for it, including being the terminus of the Northern Pacific Railway, one of the very few transcontinental railways at the time. Unfortunately for Tacoma, it never ended up becoming the city its founders originally envisioned. And this has a lot to do with the decisions the city made throughout history.


In this video, we'll cover the extensive geography of the Puget Sound region of Washington state, the history of how Tacoma and Seattle were founded, and why Seattle ultimately became Washington's major city and Tacoma sunk into relative obscurity.

From the Atlantic provinces in the east to the fjord-filled Pacific coast, and from the Ontario peninsula in the south to the arctic archipelago in the far north, there is a wide range of different climates, ecosystems, and topographical features that make Canada incredible beautiful.


In this video, I goes through my 15 favorite geography facts about Canada covering everything from the country's topography and water features, to its population and resources.


I also want to stress that, while I'm an Oregonian through and through, I firmly stand by Canada as a free and independent country. It's insane that I even have to say that, but here we are. #StrongandFree

Or that on the north and south pole, the very idea of time breaks down? Or how about that China, which is as large as the United States, has just a single time zone?

Unfortunately, due to the prominence of cars and planes, ridership of passenger rail in the United States dipped considerably in the 1900s and never really recovered, even as other countries, such as China, rapidly build out a national high speed rail system that far and away surpasses Amtrak's meager routes. So what's going on? Well, the geography of it all certainly doesn't help!

Trump is coming back into office. Which means, he's going to have an impact on how the world looks over the next few years. If his first term taught us anything, it's that he isn't afraid to shake up global norms in order to push his own agenda. And given his transactional nature, he definitely has favorites all around the planet that he'll look to empower.


In this video, we're going to cover the countries Trump will likely have the biggest impact on in terms of their current borders. This will include eastern Europe and Ukraine, Israel and Saudi Arabia, China and Taiwan, and of course, Canada and Greenland. All this is to say, in his second term, Trump will be looking to leave his mark on the world.

While Israel goes to war with Hamas and Hezbollah, Syria deals with a Civil War, Iraq suffers from the consequences of invasion and occupation, and Saudi Arabia wages a proxy war with the Houthis in Yemen, Jordan exists peacefully in the middle of it all. So why doesn't anyone ever go to war with Jordan?

Despite its cultural prominence, however, the area remains as one of the most underpopulated in the eastern half of the country with bustling cities literally surrounding it. So why don't more people live in Empty Appalachia?

Australia is the driest, inhabited continent in the entire world! Which means that, unlike every other continent, it doesn't have any large, life-sustaining lakes that supply water for millions and moderate the climate. But that's not to say it's never had any great lakes. Today, on Google Maps, you'd be right to assume the country has several very large, very prominent lakes in South Australia, but, in reality, those lakes don't really exist. So where did Australia's Great Lakes go?
