In a game that mattered only to the 2025 NFL draft order, the Titans won by losing.

The Jaguars beat the Titans 20-13, which improves the Jaguars’ record to 4-12 and drops the Titans to 3-13. The Titans remain in contention for the first overall pick heading into Week 18.

Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones played reasonably well, outplaying Titans quarterback Mason Rudolph. Neither team appeared to be tanking in the sense of actually trying to lose, but neither of these teams needs to tank to look bad. They’re two of the worst teams in the league, and for their fans, the biggest question is whether they can address their major needs this offseason and put a competitive team on the field in 2025.

Next week both teams will close out their disappointing 2024 seasons, and begin the process of preparing for the 2025 NFL draft. When the Titans may be looking for a franchise quarterback, and today’s loss may have helped in that quest.

The Tennessee Titans continue their December woes with a 38-30 loss to the Indianapolis Colts that was considerably worse than the final score line despite a fourth-quarter comeback attempt.

Indianapolis led 38-7 at one point in the third quarter after the Colts scored 38 straight, but 23 unanswered points by the Titans forced Indianapolis to run a four-minute offense to close the game out.

Tennessee (3-12) was done in by the Colts' 24-point second quarter. Jonathan Taylor finished with 218 rushing yards and three touchdowns as Tennessee's defense allowed 335 rushing yards overall.

That could be big for the race to get the first overall pick in the draft, as the Jaguars headed into today’s game at 2-10 and in the driver’s seat to pick first overall, while the Titans were 3-9 and projected for the seventh pick in 2025.

Now both the Jaguars and the Titans are 3-10, and the race for the first pick is wide open, with the Raiders and Giants currently having the best chance. Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is the betting favorite to go first overall.

The game itself wasn’t particularly notable, as neither quarterback, Jacksonville’s Mac Jones or Tennessee’s Will Levis, did much of anything. It was as ugly as you’d expect from two bad teams.

But someone had to win, and that someone was the Jaguars. Which is a loss, if you’d rather get a higher pick than win a December game between two bad teams.

Importance of Week 14

Callahan said before the Washington game his team wasn't dead yet. Now at 3-9, let's face it, things aren't looking good. The Titans haven't been eliminated from playoff contention yet, but it's close. On Sunday, the Titans are a 3 ½-point favorite over the Jaguars. Another nugget: The Titans are 19-6 against the Jaguars at home since 1999. Tennessee is looking to become the fourth team with 20 or more home wins against an opponent since 1999, joining the Packers (20 vs Lions), Vikings (20 vs Lions) and Steelers (23 vs Browns). For draft fans, this is a stat I'll now start to include: The Titans are currently projected to hold the eighth pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, while the Jaguars are protected to hold the third overall pick. The outcome of Sunday's game will change things.

It was a difficult day for the Tennessee Titans in a 42-19 loss against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

By the time Levis and the Titans offense had their first snap inside of Commanders territory, there was less than a minute remaining in the first half with Washington holding a 28-0 lead at home.

The Washington Commanders ended their three-game losing streak, opening up a large lead and holding on at home against the Tennessee Titans, 42-19.

After needing just three plays to score on their first possession, capped by a 40-yard touchdown run by Brian Robinson Jr., the Commanders jumped to a 28-0 lead before Tennessee scored the game’s next 13 points.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels passed for three touchdowns, two of them to Terry McLaurin, and also ran for a score. Led by Robinson’s 103, the Commanders rushed for 267 yards on 45 carries.

Fresh off a loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the Washington Commanders are looking to snap their three-game skid on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

Tennessee pulled off a massive upset in Week 12, knocking off CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans to pick up its third win of the season, and first with Will Levis under center for the entire game.

Just three weeks ago, the Commanders were in the lead in the NFC East, but they’ve dropped three games in a row to fall to 7-5 and are now in danger of missing the playoffs in the NFC.

While the Titans aren’t a great team, they do have a tough defense that ranks third in the NFL in yards per play allowed and 12th in EPA/Play.

Oddsmakers have the Commanders set as 5.5-point favorites in this game, but can they cover the spread at home and snap their losing streak?

The team's 32-27 win over the Texans was the team's fifth win in the past six games in Houston.

Titans fans, some of them decked out in Oilers gear, celebrated as Texans fans headed to the exits.

In what's been a frustrating season, this was a nice highlight.

The Titans are 3-8, but on this day, it was fun to celebrate.

In Houston.

Titans quarterback Will Levis threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns, with an interception. He was sacked eight times in the contest.

The Titans survived some of their own mistakes to win in.

It was an ominous start for the Titans.

Texans returner Dameon Pierce returned the opening kickoff 80 yards to the Titans 19-yard line, and Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud connected with tight end Cade Stover for a touchdown on Houston's first offensive play to make it 7-0 just 18 seconds left in the contest.

But the Titans responded with back-to-back-back scores of their own, starting with a 51-yard field goal by Nick Folk, which made it 7-3 with 11:15 left in the first quarter.

After a defensive stop, Levis then executed a beautiful, 10-play, 89-yard touchdown drive that he capped off with a 38-yard touchdown pass to receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, which made it 10-7. The Titans converted a fourth-down on the drive, on a keeper from Levis.

When the Titans got the ball back after another defensive stop, on their own five-yard line, Levis guided the Titans 95 yards on six plays. A 63-yard pass to receiver Calvin Ridley jumpstarted the drive, and a 10-yard touchdown run by running back Tony Pollard capped it off to make it 17-7 with 11:03 left in the second quarter.

The Texans cut the lead to 17-14 on a five-yard touchdown pass from Stroud to Nico Collins with 6:17 left in the second quarter.

Following a critical fumble on a botched exchange from Levis to Pollard, the Texans tied the game on a field goal by Ka'imi Fairbairn to make it 17-17 with 3:24 left before halftime.

The Titans kept swinging.

And, after an interception by rookie cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr., Folk nailed a 56-yard field goal on the final play of the first half to give the Titans a 20-17 lead at the break.

Levis was 11-of-12 for 177 yards and a touchdown at the half, but he was sacked seven times.

The Titans got more points on a Folk field goal to start the second half. It was another 51-yarder by Folk, this one capping an 11-play, 41-yard drive, to give the Titans a 23-17 lead at the 9:08 mark of the third quarter.

After Titans linebacker Kenneth Muray intercepted Stroud in Houston territory, it looked like the Titans might take control of the game.

But disaster struck not long after, as Levis was intercepted by Texans safety Jimmie Ward, and he returned it 65 yards for a touchdown to give Houston a 24-23 lead after three quarters.

Another special teams faux pas – a fumble by returner Jha'Quan Jackson – served up another short field for the Texans, giving them the ball at the Tennessee 43.

The Texans cashed that in for three more points on another Fairbairn field goal, this one from 54 yards, to take a 27-23 lead with 9:46 remaining in the game.

But the Titans got off the mat, in grand fashion.

Tight end Chig Okonkwo caught short pass from Levis, and turned it into 70-yard touchdown by outracing a host of Texans defenders to the end zone to make it 30-27 with 9:35 left.

Fairbairn missed a short field goal late that would have tied it.

Jeffery Simmons had a critical sack late before Titans edge Harold Landry recorded a safety in the closing minutes to seal the win.

And, the Titans celebrated in Houston, once again.

The Titans return to action next Sunday at the Washington Commanders.

The Houston Texans appear to be walking to an AFC South title after they knocked off the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football to improve to 7-4 on the season.

In Week 12, they’ll take on a two-win Tennessee Titans team that has dropped two games in a row and is just 1-4 straight up on the road so far this season.

Tennessee hasn’t gotten great quarterback play from Will Levis and Mason Rudolph, making it a tough team to bet on – even as a major underdog. 

This is the first of two meetings this season between these AFC South rivals, as they’ll also face off in Week 18. 

Using the latest odds and analysis, I’m attempting to predict the final score of this matchup, which will hopefully give bettors an idea of which side – or a total – to bet on Sunday.

The Titans’ defense has played better than its points allowed numbers would suggest, and it could keep things tight for a while by forcing the Vikings to settle for short completions like they had to do last week. Given how difficult young quarterbacks have found it to face this defense, though, it’s hard to see Levis turning out to be the one with the answer, especially as he plays behind an overmatched offensive line that could be without right tackle Leroy Watson. The Vikings’ defense will make the difference in this one, as it did in Jacksonville last week.

Can the TITANS WIN? It's possible.....but not very likely.

The VIKINGS are 7-2 with a primed defense and playmakers on offense.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- — The combination of steady play by Justin Herbert and a strong defense has given the Los Angeles Chargers their best start in six years.

Herbert threw for a touchdown and ran for one, and the Chargers had seven sacks in their third straight victory, 27-17 over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

The Chargers are 6-3 — their best start since going 7-2 in 2018 — and have won four of five to surpass last season's victory total.

“A complete, total team win. When you look at the offense, the drives that we put together ... tough, gritty type of conversions on third down and fourth down,” coach Jim Harbaugh said. “They’re playing lights out on the defensive side. And then special teams, another big return by our punt return unit.”

Herbert completed 14 of 18 passes for 164 yards and had 32 yards rushing. He is the seventh quarterback since the NFL-AFL merger, and the first since Philip Rivers in 2018, to have a passer rating of at least 90 in each of the first nine games of the season.

The defense — which is allowing a league-low 13.1 points per game — is the fourth since 1990 and the first since the 2013 Kansas City Chiefs to allow 20 or fewer points in each of its first nine games.

“Rush and coverage. We have some of the best rushers in the league and that allows us to make plays,” safety Derwin James said.

The Titans (2-7) came in with the NFL's top-ranked defense overall and against the pass but forced Los Angeles to go three-and-out only twice in nine possessions.

Calvin Ridley scored both of Tennessee's touchdowns and had five catches for 84 yards. Will Levis, who missed the last three games with a shoulder injury, was 18 of 23 for 175 yards, but the sacks limited his effectiveness.

“It was a nice start. It was cool to get the ball downfield and get that shot dialed up, something we’ve been waiting on," Levis said. "Second half, I think for me personally, a couple situations where I could have just got the ball out of my hands earlier, help the line with pressure."

Herbert gave the Chargers a 13-7 lead with 1:55 remaining in the first half on a 4-yard run off right tackle out of the shotgun formation on fourth-and-1.

“I thought we did a great job from start to the end being able to move the ball, run the ball, pass the ball however we needed to move it,” Herbert said. “I thought the guys up front did an incredible job and to be able to put that together against a very good opponent, it means a lot to me.”

The game turned with 21 seconds remaining in the first half. The Titans appeared to tie it at 13 when Roger McCreary ran back Herbert's fumble 20 yards into the end zone. After a replay review, the call was changed to an incomplete pass because officials determined Herbert's arm was going forward, leaving Titans coach Brian Callahan incensed.

Callahan said officials initially told him the call was going to stand before they and the replay center in New York took another look.

“I’ll let you guys decide what you think the call should have been, but I don’t want to lose any money,” he said.

Harbaugh and Herbert said the reversal was huge.

“To be able to go to halftime with the lead and to avoid a play like that is big time,” Herbert said.

And then the Chargers took control in the second half.

Herbert extended the lead to 20-10 with three minutes to go in the third quarter on a 16-yard pass to Quentin Johnston in the right corner of the end zone.

Hassan Haskins, who spent two seasons with Tennessee, extended the advantage to 17 points with a 1-yard dive up the middle. That capped an 11-play, 95-yard drive that ate up seven minutes.

“It was just steady. It’s like death by a thousand paper cuts when you play that way, and we kind of gave up just enough yards every time on a 95-yard drive to allow them to go punch it in for seven when we had them backed up on the 5,” Callahan said.

The Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Chargers each boast one of the strongest defenses in the NFL, meaning not much scoring should be expected this weekend. However, despite their strong defense, the Chargers have seen their offensive output increase drastically as of late.

Thanks to high-level play from quarterback Justin Herbert, the emergence of rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey, and the consistent production of running back J.K. Dobbins, the Chargers have bolted to a 5-3 record, good for second-place in the AFC West.

The Titans haven't had similar luxuries, struggling to find their footing on offense with quarterbacks Will Levis and Mason Rudolph. The departure of star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has not helped either. However, thanks to their very strong secondary, the Titans have managed to keep a lot of games close, having lost half of their games by just one possession.

The Tennessee Titans earned their second victory of the season with a 20-17 overtime victory over the New England Patriots.

Patriots QB Drake Maye threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Rhamondre Stevenson as time expired to send the game to overtime. Nick Folk kicked a 25-yard field goal in OT after the Titans took the ball on the first possession, and Amani Hooker intercepted Maye to end the game.

DETROIT -- — Jared Goff threw three touchdown passes but was far from the star for the Detroit Lions in one of the highest-scoring games in franchise history.

David Montgomery was the first of five Lions to score in the first half in a 52-14 rout of the Tennessee Titans 52-14 on Sunday.

The Lions were efficient on offense, converting on all five chances in the red zone, and the other two phases were dominant. Detroit's defense forced four turnovers and its special teams produced a touchdown on one of three returns that totaled 162 yards.

“We play with three units and when a couple of them are cooking at the right time, it can bail out one of your units,” coach Dan Campbell said.

The NFC North-leading Lions (6-1) have the conference's best record after winning five straight games, averaging 40-plus points over the last four, and the franchise's best seven-game record since 1956.

Detroit's scoring total trailed only a franchise-record, 55-point performance against Chicago in 1997.

The Lions were fine without big-play receiver Jameson Williams, who served the first of a two-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy.

“We didn't miss a beat,” Campbell said.

Detroit has been on a roll by leaning on Goff, but it had more points (42) than he had passing yards (28) early in the third quarter. He finished 12 of 15 for 85 yards, taking advantage of takeaways by the defense that set him up with short fields.

“I don’t think I've ever been a part of something like that,” the 30-year-old Goff said.

The Lions also pulled off a trick play as they do in most games — this time, a touchdown pass by running back Montgomery, who took a pitch from Goff and found Sam LaPorta from 3 yards out to give the Lions a 35-14 lead and their highest-scoring half since 1970.

Jahmyr Gibbs had a 70-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter and finished with a season-high 127 yards rushing. Khalil Dorsey had a 72-yard kickoff return to set up Goff's 8-yard TD pass to Brock Wright early in the second.

Kalif Raymond's 90-yard kickoff return early in the third put Detroit ahead 42-14.

The Titans (1-6) were handed a lopsided loss for the second straight week and have already signaled this is a rebuilding year by trading veteran receiver DeAndre Hopkins and starting linebacker Ernest Jones Jr.

“You’re going to get blown out by every team in the league turning the ball over four times,” Titans coach Brian Callahan said. “We just don’t complement each other at all. Right now, our special teams gives up yards, our defense doesn’t get a stop and we don’t do anything on offense and we turn it over. Everything needs to be better.”

The Titans extended their streak of throwing an interception in every game when Mason Rudolph was picked off by linebacker Trevor Nowaske in the first quarter. Rudolph later floated a pass that Kerby Joseph intercepted.

Rudolph did rush for his first touchdown, an 11-yarder that fooled Detroit’s defense and tied the game late in the first quarter.

Rudolph, starting for the injured Will Levis, was 22 of 38 for 266 yards with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Nick Westbrook-Ikhine early in the second quarter and two interceptions.

“I’ve got to protect the ball better and put our defense in a better situation,” Rudolph said. “I thought we did good things in the first half and we did move the ball, possess the ball, but none of that matters when you get your butt kicked.”

Ridley matched a career high with 10 receptions for a season-high 143 yards. Tony Pollard ran for a season-high 95 yards on 20 carries.

The Kansas City Chiefs are finalizing a trade for Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, ESPN reports.

Hopkins, 32, will help strengthen a receiving corps that has lost Rashee Rice, Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster to injuries.

The Chiefs are expected to send a fifth-round pick that can become a fourth-rounder to the Titans for Hopkins.

Hopkins has 15 catches for 173 yards this season for a Titans team that has won just one game and struggled at quarterback. Hopkins had a knee injury in training camp that didn't require surgery. He had 75 catches for 1,057 yards last season with Tennessee.

Hopkins is the third prominent receiver over the past eight days to be traded. Last week, the Las Vegas Raiders sent Davante Adams to the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns traded Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills. The Los Angeles Rams have also reportedly initiated trade discussions with teams for former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp.

The two-time defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs have the best record in the NFL at 6-0 but have been in the market for a receiver to help quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Brown isn't expected to play in the regular season after having shoulder surgery last month for an injury he suffered in the preseason. Rice also isn't expected to play for the remainder of the season after having surgery two weeks ago to repair the posterolateral corner of his right knee. He was hurt during a victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Smith-Schuster missed Sunday's victory over the San Francisco 49ers because of a hamstring injury and has already been declared out for the Chiefs' Week 8 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

It's the third straight season the Chiefs have made an in-season trade for a wide receiver. During 2022, the Chiefs sent a third and a sixth-round pick to the New York Giants for Kadarius Toney. He is no longer on the roster, though he did have a crucial punt return in the Chiefs' Super Bowl win over the Philadelphia Eagles in February of 2023.

Last season, the Chiefs traded a sixth-round pick to the Jets for Mecole Hardman and a seventh-round pick. Hardman had left the Chiefs to sign with the Jets as a free agent in the offseason. Hardman caught the game-winning pass in overtime of Super Bowl LVIII and re-signed with the Chiefs this offseason.

The Buffalo Bills scored 34 unanswered points to win 34-10 over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at Highmark Stadium.

After the Titans took a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter, the offense sputtered while the defense relented. Buffalo scored in all five second-half possessions as the home team took control.

In his first start with the Titans, Mason Rudolph was 25-of-40 for 215 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Buffalo's Josh Allen finished with 323 passing yards and two touchdowns, while rookie Keon Coleman caught four passes for 125 yards.

Down 17-10 going into the fourth quarter, the Colts narrowed the Titans’ lead with a 22-yard field goal after the club couldn’t get into the end zone deep in Tennessee territory.

But then Indianapolis took the lead for good on their next drive, with quarterback Joe Flacco — starting his second game for an injured Anthony Richardson — hitting receiver Michael Pittman for a 10-yard touchdown with 7:27 left in the contest.

Tennessee had three more realistic chances to at least tie the game, but couldn’t get it done. The club went three-and-out on the first chance, quarterback Will Levis threw an interception on an ill-advised deep ball on the second, and the club punted again with 2:18 left in the fourth quarter.

The Titans didn’t get the ball back until there were just 12 seconds on the clock, which was too little too late.

Flacco ended the game 22-of-38 for 189 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Josh Downs caught seven passes for 66 yards with one TD to lead the way.

Indianapolis was 7-of-15 on third down, finishing with 269 total yards.

Levis was 16-of-27 passing for just 95 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Tony Pollard led with 93 yards on 17 carries.

Now at 3-3, the Colts will be at home to face the Dolphins next week.

The 1-4 Titans will be on the road in Week 6 to play the Bills.

Flacco ended the game 22-of-38 for 189 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Josh Downs caught seven passes for 66 yards with one TD to lead the way.

Indianapolis was 7-of-15 on third down, finishing with 269 total yards.

Levis was 16-of-27 passing for just 95 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Tony Pollard led with 93 yards on 17 carries.

Now at 3-3, the Colts will be at home to face the Dolphins next week.

The 1-4 Titans will be on the road in Week 6 to play the Bills.

9/30/2024 - MIAMI -- The Tennessee Titans got their first win of the season after quarterback Mason Rudolph replaced an injured Will Levis midway through the first quarter Monday. The Titans earned a 31-12 road victory over the Miami Dolphins, who were starting their third quarterback in four games.

Tyler Huntley got the start after the Dolphins signed him from the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad on Sept. 16 as they continue to try to find a solution in the absence of the injured Tua Tagovailoa, but Huntley wasn't the answer under the bright lights of Hard Rock Stadium.

The Titans' defense swarmed and limited Miami to 184 total yards, and their running game was able to get things done on the ground -- with 142 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Malik Willis ran for a touchdown and threw for a score in his best performance in the NFL, leading the Green Bay Packers to a 30-14 rout of the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Willis not only won his second straight start subbing for Jordan Love, he got a sweet measure of revenge against the team that traded him to Green Bay (2-1) in August. Willis accounted for 134 of the Packers' 137 yards in the first quarter. He finished with 202 yards passing and 73 rushing.

Cornerback Jaire Alexander scored a touchdown on his first career pick-6 late in the first quarter, helping Green Bay jump out to a 17-7 lead after 15 minutes. The Packers led 20-7 at halftime and ultimately scored 20 straight points for a 27-7 advantage midway through the third, prompting a loud chant of “Go, Pack, Go!”

The Packers had eight sacks, their most since getting eight at Chicago on Jan. 2, 2005. They also forced three turnovers.

First-year coach Brian Callahan has the Titans (0-3) off to their worst start since losing the first six in 2009. Tennessee, which got a seventh-round pick for Willis after trading the 2022 third-rounder out of Liberty, has lost 21 of 27 overall.

The Tennessee Titans dropped another close one Sunday, losing 24-17 to the New York Jets at Nissan Stadium to fall to 0-2 in 2024. Quarterback Will Levis turned the ball over twice in the loss. The score was tied late into the fourth quarter, but Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers led the visitors to victory with a late game-winning drive.

A disastrous, unforced red zone fumble. An interception wrestled out of a receiver's hands on a 50-50 ball. Another blocked punt. These are the kinds of errors the Titans spent the entire week talking about how they need to prevent.

10/15/23 - Tennessee #Titans lose to the Baltimore #Ravens in a close game in London (#TitanUp, #Ravensflock). QB Ryan Tannehill was injured and was replaced by QB Malik Willis.

With continued struggles in the Red Zone, the Titans offense sputtered. With a big game by RB Derrick Henry 12 carries for 97 yards and 1 TD, the offense still struggled to score touchdowns.

QB Lamar Jackson 21-30 and 223 yards 1 TD and 1 INT with an efficient game and was able to make enough plays to win the game. The Titans are now 2-4 with another AFC loss. What is next for the Titans?

During the game, the Colts ended up with 429 yards with RB Zach Moss with 23 carries for 165 yards and 2 touchdowns.
