In each episode, host Mikki Wilson sits down with a woman business owner from the Creative Collective community to explore her unique journey, what drives her, and where she's headed next.

How the Creative Collective community supports women's business journeys
Navigating the unique challenges women face in building creative enterprises
Finding their authentic voice and leadership style in their industries

Whether you're a woman entrepreneur yourself, a supporter of women-owned businesses, or simply curious about the women behind local creative enterprises, this podcast offers honest insights into what it really takes for women to build something with intention and heart in today's business landscape.

<title>Alyssa Conary: The Work of Holding Community </title>
<description>In this episode of Creativity Connects with Mikki Wilson, we sit down with Alyssa Conary, Membership Director at Creative Collective, for a grounded conversation about what it really means to hold community.

Rather than focusing on growth for growth’s sake, Alyssa reflects on community-centered leadership as a practice rooted in care, consistency, and responsibility. Drawing from her work supporting women entrepreneurs and her involvement with Historic Salem, Inc., she shares how history, place, and stewardship shape the way she approaches leadership—both formally and behind the scenes.

This conversation goes beyond surface-level ideas of connection and explores the quieter labor of maintaining trust, setting boundaries, and making decisions that honor both people and institutions over time. Alyssa offers a thoughtful perspective on sustainability, reminding us that not everything needs to scale—some things simply need to be held well.

What community-centered leadership looks like in practice

How history and place influence modern leadership decisions

Holding institutions, not just moments or momentum

The unseen labor of maintaining trust and sustainability

Why care, boundaries, and pacing are strategic leadership tools

“Community isn’t just about bringing people together. It’s about what you’re willing to hold when people show up as their full selves.”

“A lot of the work I do is invisible. It’s listening, following up, remembering details, and creating a sense of safety people don’t always realize they need.”

“You can’t build trust through systems alone. Trust comes from consistency, presence, and doing what you say you’re going to do.”

“Holding community doesn’t mean carrying it all yourself. It works best when responsibility is shared.”

“People think community is events, but it’s really about relationships — and relationships take care.”

Alyssa Conary is the Membership Director for Creative Collective, where she supports and nurtures a community of entrepreneurs and creatives across the North Shore. Alyssa is known for her human-centered approach to community care, helping members feel welcomed, supported, and connected while strengthening the relationships that make the creative economy thrive. She is also involved with Historic Salem, Inc., bringing a place-based and preservation-minded lens to her leadership work.

Mikki Wilson is the host of Creativity Connects with Mikki Wilson and the founder of Dot Connector Consulting. Known for her ability to facilitate meaningful connections, Mikki cultivates conversations that go beyond the brand to highlight the lived experiences, leadership, and “messy middles” behind women’s entrepreneurial journeys.

<title>Dr. Tariana V. Little: Social Impact Storytelling for Change</title>
<description>In this episode, Mikki is joined by Dr. Tariana V. Little, CEO and co-founder of EmVision Productions, an award-winning Social Impact Storytelling™ agency. Tariana opens up about how she weaves science, storytelling, and justice into what she calls intentional creativity for social change. Their conversation explores Tariana’s journey as a proud queer, mixed-race, first-generation college graduate and how her lived experiences shaped her mission to elevate marginalized voices through storytelling. She reflects on pivotal moments—from bus rides as a METCO student to building EmVision alongside her partner Jonas—that taught her resilience, vision, and the power of community.

The origin story of EmVision Productions and how a Craigslist experiment proved the business was viable

How the METCO program and lived inequities informed her passion for justice and representation

The personal practice of vision boarding as a tool for clarity, intention, and future-building

Why honoring her full name, Tariana Veronica Little, is an act of authenticity and legacy

Building resilience as a first-gen student and entrepreneur and creating pathways for others through scholarships and community storytelling

The importance of community, collaboration, and not being a “dream killer” in the creative economyWhy supporting someone’s dream—for free—is one of the greatest investments we can make in community

“We didn’t know where we were going, but we trusted ourselves enough to take chances.”

“Nothing becomes real until you put it in front of you or speak it out loud.”

“Killing dreams is very expensive. Supporting dreams, on the other hand, is free.”

<title>Creativity Connects with Mikki Wilson: Beyond the Brand with Die With Your Boots On</title>
      <description>About This Episode:
In this episode, Mikki sits down with Amber Newbury, founder of Die With Your Boots On, and Laurie Moran, the shop’s Program Director. Together, they explore the evolution of a Salem-based boutique that’s redefining goth fashion, size inclusivity, and self-expression—with a whole lot of heart and humor.

From corporate burnout and pandemic pivots to kiddie pool job interviews and drag shows in-store, Amber and Laurie share the deeply personal and often hilarious journey of building a business that’s as bold as its name. Whether it’s helping someone try on a dress for the first time or watching a kid save up birthday money for a tote bag, Die With Your Boots On is about more than clothes—it’s about confidence, community, and showing up exactly as you are.

Key Moments:
“I wanted to make the outside match the inside.” — Amber on reclaiming identity after leaving corporate life

Laurie shares how their creative partnership grew from friendship to full-on collaboration

A real talk breakdown on size inclusivity, pressuring vendors for extended sizing, and saying goodbye to those who don’t deliver

Why DWYBO isn’t just a store—it’s a safe, stylish space for weirdos, queerdos, and everyone in between

How Salem helped them feel less like outsiders—and inspired them to build a home for others like them

<title>Creativity Connects with Mikki Wilson: Beyond the Brand with Jenni Stuart</title>
<description>Episode Description: Creativity Connects with Mikki Wilson - Beyond the Brand with Jenni Stuart

Join us as we explore the remarkable journey of Jenni Stuart, our podcast sponsor and founder of Jenni Stuart Fine Jewelry in Salem, MA. Together with host Mikki Wilson, we're discovering how this classically trained Pratt Institute goldsmith is reimagining what ethical luxury means in our creative economy.

In this conversation, our Creative Collective community learns alongside Jenni as she shares insights from her open workshop at 24 Front Street, where customers don't just buy jewelry—they meet the makers crafting their pieces. We're exploring how her decision to eliminate middlemen creates an entirely new model for ethical business, one where recycled gold, ethically sourced diamonds (lab-grown or natural), and independently mined gemstones tell stories of both beauty and responsibility

What emerges is a deeper understanding of how women entrepreneurs like Jenni are transforming traditional industries. From her "Willy Wonka for grown-ups" approach to custom design—where 80-90% of her work involves creating one-of-a-kind engagement rings—to her accessible permanent bracelet offerings, we're witnessing how authentic values can drive thriving businesses. Her commitment to hiring makers rather than salespeople reveals new possibilities for how we might all build enterprises that prioritize both craft and community.

This episode invites us to consider: What happens when we center transparency, ethics, and genuine human connection in luxury markets? How might our own creative ventures benefit from similar approaches? Join our exploration of these questions and more as we continue learning together about the real journeys shaping women's entrepreneurship in the Creative Collective.</description>

<title>Creativity Connects with Mikki Wilson: Beyond the Brand with Councilor at Large Nicole McClain</title>
<description>Creativity Connects with Mikki Wilson is a Creative Collective podcast that goes beyond the brand and into the authentic journeys of women entrepreneurs who are members of the Creative Collective. Each episode, host Mikki Wilson sits down with a woman business owner from the Creative Collective community to explore her unique path, what drives her, and where she's headed next. This series illuminates the moments, motivations, and messy middles that shape women's experiences as creators and business leaders in the creative economy. Jenni Stuart Fine Jewelry supports this podcast series.

From Military Service to City Hall: Nicole McClain's Journey of Women Veteran Entrepreneurs

Few stories capture the essence of authentic service, such as Nicole McClain's journey, when we think about women veteran entrepreneurs. From military service to city hall, Nicole's path demonstrates how early experiences with community care can evolve into powerful systemic change.

Episode Description

Join host Mikki Wilson for an inspiring conversation with Nicole McClain, Army veteran, Lynn city councilor, and founder of the North Shore Juneteenth Association. From military service to becoming Lynn's first Black woman elected as City Councilor-At-Large, Nicole's journey demonstrates the power of entrepreneurial thinking, community service, and legacy-building.

Key Conversation Moments:

<title>Creativity Connects with Mikki Wilson: Beyond the Brand with Daybar Bugler</title>
      <link>https://youtu.be/b0iCJXym3IM</link>
<description>In this inaugural episode, Mikki sits down with Daybar Bugler, the heart and founder behind EDX Provisions, a thoughtfully curated gourmet market experience redefining food culture and community connection on the North Shore.

As New England's first Black-owned cheese shop, EDX Provisions was established in 2022 with a simple yet powerful mission: "Cheese for All." The business combines Daybar's experience as a gourmet food buyer and deep love for cheese with her husband Phil's background as a sous chef and restaurant operator.

Their conversation takes us through Daybar's unexpected journey from fashion design aspirations to becoming one of the few Black women-owned cheese and charcuterie shops in the country. With refreshing candor, Daybar shares how her passion for wine and cheese developed during the pandemic, eventually leading her to open her own gourmet shop in Peabody.

Beyond the polished social media presence, Daybar reveals the beautifully imperfect reality of entrepreneurship—posting content during midnight breastfeeding sessions, navigating the challenges of a small business, and finding unexpected community support along the way.

Key Moments:

Daybar's early recognition that she was "built for partnership" rather than solopreneurship

How the pandemic sparked her journey into wine studies and gourmet food

The importance of community support and "speaking your name in rooms you're not in"

Finding balance as an entrepreneur and new mother

Advice for aspiring entrepreneurs to take "baby steps" toward their dreams

About EDX Provisions

Our Story:
After years of hosting a local maker podcast, Daybar and Phil found inspiration in promoting restaurants and entrepreneurs on their Instagram page. In 2022, they established a business on Main Street in Peabody. With Daybar's experience as a gourmet food buyer, her deep love for cheese, and Phil's background as a sous chef and restaurant operator, they were determined to open a shop focused on gourmet food and unique experiences.

Their mission is simple: "Cheese for All." As New England's first Black-owned cheese shop, EDX Provisions aims to create a genuinely inclusive shop that offers something for everyone to love. They understand what it feels like to face exclusion from opportunities such as access to capital, grants, and trusted suppliers. This deep understanding motivates them to foster an environment where "the secret ingredient is always cheese," inviting everyone to partake.
The "Cheese for All" initiative ensures that their in-store Charcuterie line, platters, and grazing tables can accommodate virtually all allergies and dietary restrictions. Their retail products, including cheese, offer vegan, nut-free, or gluten-free options. They want everyone to feel accommodated and considered when visiting the shop.

When you visit EDX Provisions for cheese, charcuterie, or grilled cheese on the weekends, expect engaging conversations and a welcoming atmosphere from Daybar, Phil, Philip, &amp; Zuri.
