<title>Rethinking Employee Engagement in the Hybrid Workplace with Vimeo’s Crystal Boysen</title>
<description>Disconnection and disengagement are on the rise in the workplace. A Gallup Poll said only 32 percent of employees were engaged in 2022. This figure has been steadily declining since 2020. This week on All Hands, Katelin Holloway breaks down how People Leaders can adapt to these macro trends with Crystal Boysen, Chief People Officer at Vimeo. She has doubled down on building a feeling of connection in Vimeo’s hybrid and flexible environment to drive employee engagement.

Crystal shares her tips on…

How to engage employees in a hybrid or remote environment

How to foster connection with the incoming workforce

Trends on Gen Z employee engagement

How we can level up our messaging (spoiler alert: it includes using video!)

<title>Creating a Culture of Radical Transparency with Glassdoor’s Danny Guillory</title>
<description>Employees look to corporations for more accountability, more transparency, and more action than ever before. So how do we as People Leaders respond?

This week on the podcast, we unpack the playbook of radical transparency with Glassdoor’s Chief People Officer Danny Guillory. Glassdoor is the platform for open-sourced company reviews, and inside Glassdoor,  leadership is just as committed to the value of transparency.  Glassdoor openly communicates and shares data on company performance, employee feedback, diversity, and pay.  Every year since 2020, Glassdoor has publicly published reports on pay equity and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging to hold themselves accountable to their commitments and employees. This results in 80 to 90 percent participation in all staff meetings and a purpose-built workplace culture.

Danny tells us…

Why transparency without purpose is meaningless

Maintaining transparency during difficult economic times and layoffs

How radical transparency drives employee engagement and DEIB goals

<title>How to Develop More Empathetic Managers</title>
<description>This year is all about doubling down on retaining and developing our existing talent. This involves so many elements – employee engagement, creating a better employee experience – and many times this can boil down to the role of the manager. We have all heard the saying “people don’t leave bad companies, they leave bad managers.” So how do we train new managers? And how do we help train existing managers to become better managers – and more empathetic managers?

This week on All Hands, Mollie West Duffy and Liz Fosslien join Katelin Holloway to discuss…

What is emotional fluency and what’s its place in the workplace

How can we manage despair, anger, perfectionism while at work

When managers need to act like coaches versus managers

Mollie and Liz are the authors of the best-selling book Big Feelings: How to Be Okay When Things Are Not Okay. The book is full of powerful anecdotes, illustrations, and research-backed tips. In addition to authoring two books together, Mollie is the Head of Learning and Development at Lattice. Liz Fosslien consults with leaders at the Fortune 500 to help them build high-performing cultures of belonging. Liz is also the illustrator behind @lizandmollie on Instagram.

<title>Creating a Long Lasting Pay Parity Program with Adobe’s Rosemary Arriada-Keiper</title>
<description>Pay parity is a simple concept: Everyone working the same job in the same location should be making roughly the same amount of money. However, in reality, it can be complicated to execute a pay parity strategy from scratch.

This week, we look at how Adobe first implemented a pay parity model way back in 2018. Katelin Holloway sits down with Rosemary Arriada-Keiper Vice President of Total Rewards at Adobe. She paved the way for pay parity at the company and continues to update, innovate, and adjust this model. Five years later, the 28,000 employees at the $4.53 billion value company continue to benefit from this standardized approach to pay.

Rosemary tells us…

How Adobe standardized what pay parity even means

How Adobe maintains pay parity five years in

What caused initial timeline delays with rolling out pay parity

<title>Applying an Intersectional Lens to Your DEIB Policy with Ruchika Tulshyan</title>
<description>We all want our colleagues to bring their best self to work. But far too often women of color hit ceilings in their professional career, navigate microaggressions, and experience exclusion.

Ruchika Tulshyan joins Katelin Holloway on All Hands this week. Ruchika is the best-selling author of the book Inclusion on Purpose: An Intersectional Approach to Creating a Culture of Belonging at Work. Additionally, she is the founder of Candour, an inclusion strategy practice, and has written groundbreaking pieces for Harvard Business Review and the Wall Street Journal.

Ruchika tells us…

The difference between DEI+B in theory and in practice

Why pay transparency is mission critical to transforming the workplace experience

How to improve feedback &amp; development for women of color. Plus, what even is ‘executive presence?’

<itunes:subtitle>When James White was CEO of Jamba Juice, he intentionally transformed and diversified their corporate culture. In turn, the company’s market cap jumped 500 percent. He says this is not a coincidence. It’s a result of what he and his daughter, Krista White, call anti-racist leadership. James and Krista co-wrote the book Anti-Racist Leadership: How to Transform Corporate Culture in a Race-Conscious World, which they describe as “a practical field guide for CEOs and other leaders who are looking to transform their company culture to suit the needs of a new decade.

<itunes:subtitle>Perhaps the biggest trend in HR policy this year is pay transparency. Seven states require employers to share salary ranges with current or potential employees. Cities and even companies including Microsoft also have new salary transparency policies on the books.

When Katelin Holloway was VP of People and Culture at Reddit, she and her team rolled out a transparent pay structure. She saw first hand how these policies close gender and racial wage gaps.

Though the impact can be powerful, let’s be honest: This can be a daunting task. People Leaders still have questions about how to communicate and implement an open compensation model. But if you have the right guide, any company – at any size or stage of development – can make it so.

We cracked open this playbook with Gemma Boulton. As Chief People Officer at the car insurance app Cuvva, she has successfully rolled out an open salary model. She tells us how she rolled this out, what she would have done differently, and how 98 percent of her company is happy with this model. </itunes:subtitle>

<itunes:subtitle>Great People Leaders can emerge from every industry, even industries known for difficult or even hostile workplaces. Take the restaurant business for example. The margins are razor thin, the hours are long, tempers can run short. An estimated 80 percent of hospitality workers experienced burnout through the pandemic. But it doesn’t need to be that way. Today’s guest is Chef Seth Stowaway. He is on a mission to build a healthy, positive workplace culture at San Francisco's Osito Restaurant and Liliana Cocktail Lounge.</itunes:subtitle>

<itunes:subtitle>Recruiting and hiring are favorite topics of People Leaders, but one aspect that is underrated is retaining great employees. Average turnover rates in the United States hover around 20 percent. In the retail industry, this statistic hovers even higher. According to the National Retail Federation, 60 percent of retail employees leave their job on average.

One unique retailer stands apart with a proven employee retention plan: Costco. Generating around 140,000 million dollars a year, Costco is the third largest retailer in the world. Costco has an impressive retention rate of 94 percent after one year’s employment. Anna Haaland, Global Business Director, People Systems, talks with host Katelin Holloway about how she started her career on the floor of a warehouse and how this retail giant takes care of and retains their employees on the ground.

<itunes:subtitle>When we talk about parental leave, often the conversation is limited to how many weeks a parent can take off. But Simmone Taitt, CEO of Poppy Seed Health sees family leave policies – including pregnancy loss and IVF – as an opportunity to inspire trust and safety in the workplace. Taitt talks with Katelin Holloway about how Poppy Seed enabled half the workplace to take family leave last year and why lived experiences are a competitive advantage at Poppy Seed.

Please note: Simmone and Katelin talk openly about pregnancy loss in the workplace. If you’re not in a headspace where you can hear those stories, but you’re still interested in the super important topic family leave policies, head to lattice.com/allhands where we have the full transcript of this episode (and every episode).
