      <title>Someday Doesn’t Just Happen</title>
<description>How The Dance Lab became a community of 600 dancers.

Mary Beth is the founder of The Dance Lab in Saratoga Springs, where she has built a studio centered on joy over competition and creating a space where dancers can feel like themselves. After years of working in accounting while continuing to teach dance on the side, she reached a point where she decided to fully step into what she had always wanted to create.

She has since become deeply connected to the families and dancers she works with, with over 600 students and a reputation for being approachable, present, and genuinely invested in every person in her building. Parents and students alike describe her as someone who knows her community, shows up, and creates an environment where kids feel supported both on and off the dance floor.

A story about timing, purpose, and what it looks like when you finally decide to go for it.

Chapters
00:00 The Journey Begins: Following Dreams
10:30 Creating The Dance Lab: A Dream Realized
15:06 Navigating Challenges: The Reality of Business Ownership
23:18 Fostering a Fun Environment: The Dance Lab Philosophy
31:34 Community and Connection: The Heart of The Dance Lab

This week, Daniel, Camp Director at Camp Stomping Grounds, shares how kids build resilience, problem-solving skills, and self-confidence by taking risks and making mistakes. Summer at Camp Stomping Ground is a little messy, a lot of fun, and full of life lessons. When kids are encouraged to jump in, explore, and sometimes stumble, they discover independence, connection, and the real joy of learning, because growth happens when you do, not just watch.

<title>Raising $2 Million + to Support Families With Complex Medical Needs over the last 15 years</title>
<description>After losing her son, Heather Straughter cofounded Jake’s Help From Heaven with her husband, Brian Straughter. Together, they have built a nonprofit that has raised over $2 million to provide resources and support to families with children facing complex medical needs. The organization offers funding for adaptive equipment, medical travel, assistive technology, and essential supplies. Helping to fill critical gaps that insurance often does not cover.

Jake’s Help From Heaven has helped over 500 families throughout the Capital Region, creating programs like an equipment exchange where families can borrow or receive gently used adaptive items. The nonprofit works closely with local partners, including the Dake Foundation and Stewarts, to make a meaningful impact in the community.

Heather also shares insights from her podcast, A Place of Yes, which explores grief, resilience, and connection, reminding families that they are not alone even in life’s most difficult moments.

<title>Prize Wheel on Caroline? Plumber creates core memories for Saratoga Kids</title>
<description>Nick Armstrong, owner of Armstrong Plumbing, joins The Good Stuff by Bright Sighted to share how Halloween became his favorite way to give back to the community. What started as decorating a van turned into a full-on neighborhood celebration complete with games, a spin wheel, glow sticks, candy, and prizes where every kid walks away a winner. Nick reflects on the importance of creating joyful memories for children, rebuilding trust and connection through simple traditions, and why moments like a five-year-old winning a surprise grand prize are what it’s all about. At its core, the conversation is a reminder that community isn’t built through advertising, but through showing up, spreading good energy, and making sure every kid leaves smiling.

<title>The Woman Behind Sherlock Holmes’ Return</title>
<description>Mary Jane Hansen joins Spencer for a thoughtful conversation about theater as a place where community and creativity meet. She reflects on her path as a writer and director, the joy of bringing original stories to life, and the inspiration behind The Baker Street Adventuress, an original play developed with iTheatre Saratoga that explores how Sherlock Holmes found new life through early radio and the woman who helped make it happen. And at the end a tease of Mary Jane’s next project, inspired by a journalist working in 1930s Berlin who utilizes the growing power of media to influence public belief.</description>

<title>Meet The Hosts (The "WHY" Behind The Good Stuff)</title>
<description>Hi there, Christine here. I'm the host of the show....and that's Spencer Sherry with me. I'm a 2x Emmy-Nominated Journalist and Spencer is the Grants Coordinator at Saratoga Arts. We have many leather bound books and are separate homes smell of rich mahogany. We are members of the Saratoga Springs, NY Community who know a thing or two about creating content... We also found ourselves agreeing that there could be more "good stuff" shared as news, rather than all the doom and gloom. So, here you'll find weekly family-friendly content from the 518 and beyond!

Thanks for coming along for the ride. If you've got any suggestions or nominations for the show, please reach out at thegoodstuff@brightsighted.com.

Special Thanks to Our Sponsor: Girls Inc of the Capital Region.
