A little bit about Joe Joe Plecker is the director of instruction at The Landings in Savannah , Ga. and a PGA Master Golf Professional in Teaching & Coaching and He is a GOLF Magazine’s Top 100 teacher . Joe is the 2024 Georgia PGA Teacher of the Year. He is also a member of the PGA’s National Education Adjunct Faculty and helps Associates with their teaching content for all levels leading to membership. He is one of fhe the Head of Ambassadors for Swing Catalyst, He plays an active role in Swing Catalyst Education both online and in person at certification events.In this conversation we talk about the mentorship of his father, Coleman Plecker, who is one of the PGA’s first Master Professionals. You can follow him on instagram @bettergolftucson where he has a massive following of more than 149 thousand. A little bit about Derek, he is the director of instruction at the Forty Niner Club in Tucson Arizona where he has been for the past 16 years. He teaches all parts of the game but has found his niche in the short game where he teaches a few tour players, such as Erik Van Rooyan, Michael Thorgbornsen and Matt Wallace and alot of really good college and amateurs as well. He is on the Ping advisory staff and did some really cool research on how the high launch, high spin shot is produced. When I saw that video a few years ago I was amazed at what Derek can do with a wedge which is what makes him so special as he is still a fine player himself. In this conversation we get into everything short game including his framework for assessing whether to use the ground or hit the ball first on your shots around the green to the different pieces that are necessary. We also discuss some of his work with a few of his players and some of the common mistakes that amateurs make around the greens. Finally we cover a few of his favorite drills and how to practice your short game and much more including some personal growth tips and how he stays sharp everyday. This is the first time that I have met Derek and I really enjoyed his caring personality and you can tell that he has intentional passion or golf and for people which is why he is one of the most sought after coaches in the game. Hal Sutton - Be The Right Club Today

My guest on this episode needs no introduction as he is a legend in the game and one of my childhood heroes. He is 14 time PGA Tour winner, including the 1983 PGA Champion where he beat Jack Nicklaus buy 1 and the 1983 and 2000 Players champion where he held off Tiger Woods and you guessed it, the owner of one of the most famous golf lines after hitting his second shot into the 18th green....."Be the right club. Be the right club today" He was the 1983 leading money winner and player of the year and also the comback player of the year in 1994. He played on 4 Ryder Cups and was the captain of the 2004 American squad.... You guessed it I am talking about Mr. Hal Sutton. Its also worth mentioning that he was the recipient of the 2007 Payne Stewart award. So I thought as the Ryder cup approaches, who better to talk to than someone who lived it. We had an amazing discussion that included his father's influence on his life and some of the decisions that he made to how he dealt with the low points and adversity in his career to much more. This is one of the few times that I have been nervous before going into an interview because I have so much respect for Hal, his career and how lives his life and his contributions to the game so give me some grace on this one. We didn't get to half of the topics and questions that I had prepared so hopefully there will be a part 2 but It was an honor to sit down with the legend. The long awaited spinoff of the Golf Guru Show is finally here! Guru and his friend Jake Thurm @JakeThurmgolf host the "Hitting It Sideways Golf Show" where they cover golf instruction, movies, life and hacks and personal development ideas, and of course wine!. This episode covers the move sideways, the great short game debate (steep vs. shallow) and how the boys coach the short game.

We are at over 170 or so episodes and counting so I have interviewed so many great and legendary coaches but this episode is a little different as I am recording with my great friend and top coach, teacher of tour players and the US junior golf coach and all around great guy and a legend in his own mind, Mr. Jake Thurm. You can follow Jake on all social platforms @jakethurmgolf as he is a must-follow. We are calling this the "Hitting It Sideways Golf Show" where the goal was to come together every couple of months and discuss not only teaching topics, what we are doing with our players etc., but our combined love for movies, book ideas, life and personal growth hacks and ideas and alot more. There were mentions of the importance of manscaping shaving knees, to the Mexican anti-inflamatory gel that I am applying to my knee and many more shenanigans and laughs as we get deeper in the wine goggles. This format stemmed from his last visit to the podcast where we drank a lot of wine and chopped it up on my couch which was a huge hit, so we decided to try it out as a random show per se. Regardless, we had a great time catching up, sharing ideas and stories all the while drinking some good wine and getting sideways/ tipsy for sure by the end of this almost 2 and half hour kickoff in which I am splitting into 2 parts.
