I'm an anesthesiologist from Texas, who has been writing Thank You Notes his whole life. I feel like I'm pretty good at writing them, and it's always been something I enjoy. There are plenty of people for whom I’m grateful, but I never took the time to thank them properly. I will be inviting them to come on the show to be thanked by me, and read their own thank you note to someone or something they feel deserves a public display of gratitude. I will also be looking into the science of gratitude itself, and the ways it can benefit your health and well-being, Interact with the show through email, and social media. Send me a Thank You Note (addressed to me or anyone) and I might feature it on a future episode. Thanks for listening

The Golden Rule with Jennifer Rippe CRNA

This Episode
Jennifer Rippe is the chief CRNA for her division in Dallas, TX. She is from Kansas and moved to Texas with her husband upon the completion of her CRNA training in Kansas City.
I have worked with her for 7 years and she is as excellent clinically as she is administratively and personally.
I wanted to have her on the show so I could publicly thank her for all of the hard work she does which makes my life immensely easier!

We are joined today by Dr. Alexis McQuitty. She is a Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, located in Galveston, TX. Alexis was one of my faculty instructors while I did my residency training at this hospital. She was always committed to teaching and making sure her residents learn something every day. I learned a great deal from her during my time there. We get into her unique teaching methods, hands on learning, growing up with physician parents, and the changes we see in medical education. My thank you note to her is for her commitment to hands on teaching to everyone from medical students to residents to fellows. She is unanimously loved and respected by everyone at the hospital. Alexis writes a thank you note to her parents and husband for their support and encouragement in every facet of her life. We end the episode with her advice to anyone considering a career in Anesthesiology. Email the show: thankyounotespod@gmail.com Send a Text or leave a Voicemail 469-609-7136 Instagram @thankyounotespod Facebook.com/thankyounotespod TikTok @thankyounotespod --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thankyounotespod/message

Episode 13 - I Love The 90's with Jacob Givens

My guest is Jacob Givens. He is a comedian, actor, writer, and more who currently lives in Los Angeles, CA. He started making videos during the pandemic to show his appreciation for the music from his formative years. After posting videos about Nirvana and Radiohead on Tik Tok, he quickly became a viral sensation. He was featured in Spin Magazine, and even attracted the attention of the very musicians he was celebrating. A few years later, the all powerful algorithm brings his videos to my feed and I'm instantly hooked. After delving into his podcast Waterproof Records, I learned that he and I both came from Tulsa, OK and are about the same age. I reached out to him on Instagram, and he graciously agreed to appear on the show. We talk about his journey from OK to IL to CA, his experience trying to get into Hollywood, how he became a viral sensation, the music that changed his life, and trying to get your kids to like the music you do. My thank you note to him is for showing the world how great 90's alternative rock is. His videos encourage everyone that sees them to embrace what you love and not to dwell on the things that you don't. Jacob closes the show with a touching letter to his brother, who sparked his love of music way back when in Tulsa. Check out Jacob on Instagram @jacobgivens and TikTok @thejacobgivens His Spotify account is awesome too. He makes killer playlists. The 90's alternative one is unmatched in quality and quantity.

Welcome to Season 2 of the Thank You Notes Podcast.

My guest is Mark Malaby. He was my Language and Composition teacher at Cascia Hall high school in Tulsa, OK. We talk about his teaching process (or rather lack thereof), the toils and troubles of high school, and share a few book recommendations.
I thank Mr. Malaby for creating a class that was built upon pushing the students out of their comfort zones. Surviving that class made me feel like I could tackle anything that was put in my way for the rest of my academic career.
Mr. Malaby wrote a thank you note to 3 of his mentors who saved him from personal and professional ruin throughout his career. The guidance these men gave him allowed Mark to become the teacher he was always meant to be.
We end the pod talking about his dream job, which he currently holds, as the director of the McPherson County Learning Center in McPherson, KS. He helps people who have struggled in the past obtain their high school diploma later in life through "trauma informed" teaching.
Mr. Malaby recommended the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss
I recommended Finding Ultra by Rick Roll

Email the show: thankyounotespod@gmail.com

Send a Text or leave a Voicemail 469-609-7136

Instagram @thankyounotespod

Facebook.com/thankyounotespod

--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thankyounotespod/message

Learn more about your ad choices.

Double Digits!!!!

Today's guest is Lindsay Myers. She is a real estate mogul from Plano, TX. She was friends with my wife in high school and has since become a family friend.

I'm thankful for her being the first fan of the podcast and for all of the help she gave me and my wife during the birth of our daughter. She took care of our dogs and filled our freezer with homemade meals. It was incredible.
We talk about how kind our children are, her path into real estate, and her new business she started on her own.
She has brought a note she has prepared for the mother of one of her friends growing up who became as Lindsay puts it "her first second mother."

Episode 9 - Danke Schön mit Herr Kevin Weaver

Herr Weaver was my German teacher in middle and high school in Tulsa, OK. He is an educator with over 20 years of experience. He is a lover of German cinema, cuisine, and culture. He also practices Tai Chi and plays percussion.

We talk about his teaching style, taking students to Germany in the summer, the trips I went on with him, public transportation, and Wim Wenders.

I wrote Herr a note to tell him how thankful I am for being his student. He made a huge impact on me. He shares a note he wrote to his own German teacher from high school who passed a few years ago. May the circle be unbroken.

My friend of 10+ years, Daniel Chavez, is a veteran of the Texas Highway Patrol and Secret Service. He currently works for a private security firm in New York City.
We talk about his time in both of these organizations and a little bit about his new job. We also get into our time in Houston while I attended medical school, fatherhood, the time I save his life, and our shared love of morphine when experiencing excruciating pain.

I wrote Daniel a thank you note for his years of service to his community and our country as well as being a great friend.
Daniel reads a thank you text he composed to his mentor Brandon from his time as a rookie Texas State Trooper.

Episode 7 - Deep in the Heart of Gratitude with Carlos Vaden

I know Carlos from our time working together at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. He was energetic, friendly, and extremely hard working. It was always a pleasure to work when he was there.

One night after a late case, Carlos dropped a bomb on me. He was leaving work to move to Houston to begin evaluation for a heart transplant, and that it would be his second. I had no idea he was going through any of this.

Carlos came on and talked about his experience having his first heart transplant, and how he has been preparing for his next one.

I wrote Carlos a thank you note for being such a great co-worker, and for sharing his story with me. I have an enormous amount of respect and admiration for him.

Carlos freestyles a thank you note to the hospital and anesthesia staff of Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. When the news came around that he was leaving to prepare for a second heart transplant, a spigot of prayers and generosity was opened for Carlos and his family.

Please check out Carlos' Go Fund Me

Episode 6 - Farming for Gratitudue with Dr. Rocco Florio

Rocco Florio is an OB/GYN who practices in Kansas City, MO. He originally hails from New York, where he completed medical school and residency. We met on a ski trip with mutual friends in 2011 and have remained friends.
We talk about his upbringing, his newfound hobby of farming, and our semi-annual snowboarding trip.
I wanted to thank Rocco for all of the phone calls and texts he sent during my wife's pregnancy a few years ago. He was an invaluable resource of knowledge that calmed both mine and my wife's nerves.
Rocco has written a thank you note to the parents of one of his childhood friends. They provided him with a place to stay when Rocco's parents were busy working or taking care of his much younger siblings. Rocco also shares a Thank You Haiku to me!

Episode 5 - I Want to Thank You for Your Life with Nick Richardson

Nick and I have a friendship going back 30 plus years. We both attended Cascia Hall in Tulsa, OK. I am well aware that one of my tenets of Thank You Note writing is to make it for something specific, but I really couldn't nail down something in particular to thank Nick for, other than making me laugh. We get into my first and only fight from when I was in middle school, being an outcast at a private school, late 90's Oklahoma High School Debate, our debate coach, and Ted Mosby from How I Met Your Mother.
Nick brought in a thank you note to Mike and Jan Tupps. They are the parents of a friend of ours from high school, Ryan Tupps. They were especially generous to Nick back then with game tickets, meals, rides, and much more.

Dr. Lindsey White is a mother of 2 and a board certified Anesthesiologist living in Dallas, TX. She and I have been co-workers for the past 6 years.
She writes and shares book reviews on her Facebook and Instagram pages (@drlitrx). They are well written and a nice glimpse into her personality. I like them so much I pestered her to come on the podcast and let me thank her for sharing them in person.
We also talk about her growing up in San Antonio, her oldest child starting to write her own thank you notes, and her favorite books. Lindsey freestyles a thank you note to her grandmother, Big Mama, who has served as a role model for her entire life.

Episode 3 - Being Grateful for the Family You Choose with Wayne McCullough

This episode features my friend Wayne McCullough. He is a personal financial planner in Dallas, TX. I got to know him about 8-9 years ago when I became a member of the Crossfit gym he opened. I also discovered that he is the host of his own podcast, The Simple Talk with Wayne McCullough. I was never someone interested in personal fitness, but his gym and coaching got me to love it. Thanks to him, I'm a better person, husband, physician, and father. Wayne finds himself in interesting times after the loss of his beloved Mother-In-Law last week. He shares a poem and the obituary he wrote in her honor with us today.

Episode 2 - Thanking Your Local Mayor with David McBride

David McBride is an educator from Tulsa, OK with a career lasting over 20 years. He was my social studies and history teacher when I attended Cascia Hall High School. We haven't spoken since 1999, and he was just as caring and engaging as I remember him. He is a prodigious Thank You Note writer, and has even inspired some of his students to take up the practice.
He shares a Thank You Note he has written to G.T. Bynum, the current mayor of Tulsa, OK and a Cascia Hall Alumnus. This talk gave me a really good and positive feeling, and I hope it does the same to you.
He is currently raising funds for Stop Soldier Suicide. Please check it out and donate if you can.

Episode 1 - Debating Gratitude with Ben Fu

Very excited to drop my first episode. I had a nice chat with my friend of over 20 years Ben Fu. We talk about our shared experiences in high school and college. If you've been looking for a discussion of the late 1990's debate scene in Oklahoma, look no further!
He has brought a Thank You note for his high school debate coach, which hit me right in the feels. I feel the same way about my coach Mrs. Rodgers.

Thanks for tuning in. Please follow the show on Instagram @ThankYouNotesPod. Email me your Thank You Notes at ThankYouNotesPod@gmail.com, and I might read it in a future episode.
