<title>You Deserve To Be The Soft Version Of Yourself</title>
<description>“If you have not met the soft version of me, I have not met the safe version of you.”

I met 2 things during my freshman year of college: accountability and a softer version of myself.

If you feel like there is a version of yourself you have never met, you are right—and that version of you deserves to be uncovered.

Getting a place of wholeness, a place in your life where you are fully expressed, will require you to do the work I share in today’s episode. This conversation is about emotional safety, holding all the versions of yourself, tenderly, and finally meeting the soft version of yourself.

      <title>4 Blessings And 7 Lessons</title>
<description>“It is a privilege to be this version of me.”

My birthday is my personal new year, so I use this time to reflect, research,
journal, pray, and create a new vision for my life. I typically emerge from
this process, which sometimes lasts for a couple of months, renewed, energized, and steeped in wisdom that sets the tone for the year(s) ahead.

This episode goes live during my birthday week, so I think it’s a perfect time to share some of the blessings and lessons I’ve experienced during this last year of my life.

Tune in to learn more about this very personal process and borrow some lessons you can apply to your own life.

Celebrating Personal New Year

15:19
Lessons Learned for Growth

<title>Things To Keep In Mind When You’re Struggling</title>
<description>“We've all struggled in life at some point. You have nothing to be ashamed of.

One thing I know about the people I am called to is that you are either in a struggle, on the other side of a struggle, or heading into your next struggle to become the person you are meant to be.

That’s the reality of someone who is destined to be greater than their circumstances.

Today I am sharing some things for you to keep in mind. This tender reminder comes straight from my book, All The Right Pieces. Get your copy here.

Listen to this to be encouraged, comforted, and reminded that everything will be okay.

      <title>Pep Talks: Give Yourself Credit</title>
<description>“Many people would have folded under the circumstances that you’ve found yourself in—but you didn’t.”

We are in between seasons, but I didn’t want to leave you with nothing, so I’m here with another pep talk you didn’t know you needed.

If you want to know what it’s like to be inspired by yourself, tune in for this
one!

Takeaways

Give yourself credit for where you are.

You've overcome, you've outlasted, and you've survived.

You're here. And many people would have folded under the circumstances that you’ve been in.

You didn't give up.

You've crawled, screamed, cried, and kicked, but you've also gotten back up every day.

You gave your best try.

You are a survivor, not just a victim—an overcomer, not just a failure.

You may not be where you want to be, but you're not where you could be.

Who you are right now is still worthy.

<title>You’re Not Crazy. You Come From A Dysfunctional Family</title>
<description>"Your truth is valid, and healing is possible."

We are back with a listener question, as part of our “Ask Nakeia” series.

“Shelly” asked me not to read her full email aloud, but she gave me permission to use this single line: “Am I crazy?”

If your family singles you out for being “extra,” for having boundaries, for
breaking cycles, and for speaking the truth while everyone else continues to pretend… You may have asked yourself the same question.

In this episode, we will address the impact of growing up in a dysfunctional family. The intention is to validate your experiences and provide practical steps for healing.

Takeaways

Your family may be dysfunctional, but you are not crazy.

Exposure to different environments can be a turning point for understanding family dynamics.

Family secrets and trauma have long-lasting impacts that require healing.

You have the right to set boundaries with family members.

Healing is a lifelong journey that starts with self-awareness and seeking support.

<title>10 Things You Should Stop Doing Right Now</title>
<description>“Sometimes it's the things we stop doing that ignite major shifts in our lives.”

The next right action isn’t always obvious.

There can be a struggle in deciding what to do next. Should you stay or should you go? Should you pursue the friendship or let it end? Should you believe in your dream or be more realistic? Those are questions many of us have had to deliberate over—and it can be even more difficult to decide when we are navigating things like anxiety, low self-esteem, or toxic family dynamics.

Whenever I don’t know what to do, I focus on things I can stop doing that would make moving forward easier. This is a practice I’ve shared with clients over the years, and in today’s episode, I’m sharing it with you. What can you stop doing right now that would give you more peace, more clarity, more confidence, more health, and wealth?

To help inspire your next move, we are diving into about ten things you should consider stopping today.

Tune in now…

Takeaways

Stop letting feelings of unworthiness dictate your actions.

Proving your worth through struggle is a threat to your well-being.

Expecting others to meet your needs can lead to disappointment.

Avoid planning your future around temporary relationships.

Don't let others hold your heart hostage.

Setting boundaries is essential for self-protection.

Your choices should not be influenced by others' opinions.

Your past does not define your future.

Focus on your own journey instead of comparing to others.

<description>“Sometimes change isn’t evident because it’s happening on the inside.”

This episode is about strengthening your ability to recognize subtle signs of healing in your life.

The journey can feel discouraging when we don’t see small progress as progress, when we fail to acknowledge the inner glow up, and when we only count the changes other people notice and validate. I’m sharing ten surprising indicators of healing, including reduced activation and triggering, quicker recovery from negative events, lower tolerance for foolishness and pain, improved sleep, and decisiveness... You’ll have to tune in for the rest.

After this episode, we will never question if you are truly healing again.

Takeaways

Making a list of efforts helps track progress.

Healing often occurs internally and isn't always visible.

Being less activated or triggered are signs of healing.

Recovery time from negative events decreases with healing.

Lower tolerance for foolishness is a sign of growth.

A lower tolerance for pain reflects emotional maturity.

Improved sleep and rest indicate a regulated state.

Decisiveness shows clarity and presence in life.

Using your voice is essential for self-advocacy.

Setting boundaries is a positive sign of healing.

<title>What I’ve Been Thinking Lately: The Power of Personal Reflection</title>
<description>"You get in life what you think you deserve."

This is one of those “let’s talk about it” episodes.

I share a few things I’ve been thinking lately… From social media pressure,
quitting stuff you aren’t good at, and why we should mind our own business, to why what we believe we deserve matters so much.

I love sharing my thoughts in this way. I am sure that my random reflections will be relevant to some aspects of your life. When you are done listening, I invite you to take some time to reflect on your own thoughts about life, purpose, relationships, community, and whatever else comes up for you.

Takeaways

Social media pressures us to have opinions on everything.

Not everyone needs to turn their interests into a business.

You get in life what you think you deserve.

It's okay to not have an opinion on every issue.

We should normalize abandoning things we're not good at.

<title>Ask Nakeia: How To Heal Emotional Exhaustion</title>
<description>"Feeling tired is part of the lived experience."

We are answering a listener’s question today in our Ask Nakeia series.

“Mia” asks for tips for healing the exhaustion she feels after a few years of challenges that have left her “tired.”

My answer includes the typical “practice self-care” advice, but I also share my unpopular take on exhaustion and why we should embrace it. Mia has been in a literal fight for her life, and if you are also fighting in this season of your life or just feeling the exhaustion that comes with being a busy person who is working hard to live the life you deserve, you will relate to this episode.

Tune in now for 8 ways to heal emotional exhaustion when you are tired and overwhelmed by your life.

Takeaways

Exhaustion can be a natural response to significant life challenges.

Self-care practices should be tailored to individual needs.

Check for biological causes of exhaustion, such as vitamin deficiencies.

Recognize and release secondhand exhaustion from others' struggles.

Seek help from family and friends when feeling overwhelmed.

Movement and changing your environment can help alleviate exhaustion.

Prayer can serve as a powerful tool for mental and emotional recovery.

Embrace the season of rest as part of personal growth.

Rest is a vital component of self-care and healing.

      <title>Taking A Timeout From Your Life</title>
<description>“The exhaustion you feel after survival mode isn’t laziness,
it’s biology.”

I am sharing one of the most transformative experiences of my life with you.

Nearly a decade ago, I put myself in timeout for an entire
year and emerged as the most aligned, intentional, purpose-filled version of myself. Looking back, eight key practices helped me recover and reconnect with myself.

If you are feeling disconnected, discouraged, overwhelmed, or
emotionally exhausted, check in with today’s episode to determine if you need a timeout.

Takeaways

Taking a timeout can be a life-saving decision.

Regular self-care practices are essential for mental and emotional health.

Honesty with yourself is the first step to recovery.

Rest is not laziness—it’s a biological necessity.

It's okay to prioritize yourself and be 'selfish' in self-care.

Keeping promises to yourself builds trust and integrity.

Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Honoring your capacity isn’t limiting.

Regular small timeouts can prevent larger breakdowns.

<title>Rethinking What It Means To Be the Bigger Person</title>
<description>“If you have to be the bigger person, you have already
outgrown them.”

In this episode, I am challenging what it means to be the “bigger
person.” Are you showing how you’ve evolved or relapsing? Are you keeping the peace or betraying yourself? We will answer these questions, and more, as we work to rethink what it means to be the bigger person in your relationship.

Takeaways

Slipping into resentment is a sign of self-betrayal.

Setting boundaries protects your energy and heart.

If setting a boundary messes with the relationship, you have a relationship problem.

If you have to be the bigger person, you've outgrown some people.

Staying silent isn't being the bigger person—it’s relapsing into a version of yourself that you have outgrown.

Sometimes being the bigger person means addressing issues others are afraid to speak about.

You are not being a bigger person if you allow mistreatment.

The goal is to grow and evolve, not to be bigger than others.

Normalize not wanting to be the bigger person for people you've outgrown.

00:00 The Journey of Self-Discovery

02:45 Boundaries and Self-Respect

05:19 Redefining the Bigger Person

<title>Embracing The Fall: The Grace of Getting Back Up</title>
<description>“People fall. Pay attention to the ones who get back up.”

One of my favorite life lessons came from my daughter, and I’m
sharing what I learned with you.

If you have fallen, failed at an attempt, or experienced a
setback, I am sharing what it takes to get back up and move forward with grace, intention, and determination. This episode is part pep talk, part strategy.

People fail at their attempts at success every day.

It’s disappointing, embarrassing, and sometimes painful—but sometimes that’s exactly what it takes to build the life you want to live. And you know what’s more memorable than falling? Getting back up.

Tune in to hear how.

Takeaways

People fall. Pay attention to the ones who get back up.

Getting back up after a fall shows you who you really are.

People who succeed see failures as part of the process.

Building safeguards is crucial during the journey.

Flexibility and the ability to pivot are essential.

Avoid internalizing the fears of others.

You are not defined by failures.

Progress is still progress, even with setbacks.

Prioritizing well-being is key to resilience.

<title>Things I Learned About People The Hard Way</title>
<description>“Sometimes it is through our connection to others that we
find out how disconnected we are with ourselves.”

This is the conversation we need to have if you have ever
felt like your relationship with someone was a waste of your time.
Relationships can be your greatest teacher. You can learn how to love others and yourself better—especially from the relationships that didn’t work out.

Whether it’s the struggle to understand a parent, set
boundaries with a sibling, or stop trying to change a partner, you can extract wisdom from the people you connect with in life.

In today’s episode, I’ll be sharing some wisdom I learned about people, relationships, and myself, the hard way.

Takeaways

When people fail you, they are not actually failing you—they are failing their capacity.

We have to be okay with some people not fully understanding us.

Understanding personal limitations fosters empathy for others.

Aligning expectations with abilities leads to better relationships.

Emotional intelligence is the key to managing disappointments.

Self-awareness helps in navigating personal failures.

Recognizing and acknowledging capacity can improve your quality of life and relationships.

It's important to communicate expectations clearly.

Growth comes from understanding and accepting limitations.

<title>Are You A Perfectionist Or Are You Scared?</title>
<description>“Adjust your standards to meet your intention.”

In this conversation, we explore the concepts of perfectionism and fear—two things that are often confused for one another.

Both can hinder personal progress. Both require intentional
reprogramming. And both can be healed through the practices I shared today.

To help illustrate the difference between perfectionism and fear, I am sharing insights from my sessions with a client who identified as a
perfectionist, but realized that fear was the underlying issue preventing her from moving forward.

Whether you have been hiding behind perfectionism or fear, today’s
chat will help you start making things happen in your life.

Takeaways

Perfectionism can often mask underlying fear.

Setting new intentions can help overcome stagnation.

Focus on action rather than the perfect outcome.

Applying grace to oneself is essential for growth.

It's important to know if you're facing perfectionism or
fear.

Celebrating small steps can motivate further action.

Honor the details, but don't obsess over them.

The process of growth is as important as the outcome.

<title>3 Reasons You Can't Get Over Your Ex</title>
<description>“Just because it didn’t last doesn’t mean it was never meant
to be.”

Lean in, Beloved, as we chat about something almost everyone
has experienced…

Heartbreak and the journey to move forward after.

This episode is titled 3 Reasons You Can’t Get Over Your Ex, but that is where the struggle begins. Heartbreak is not something you “get over.”

I’m sharing a perspective many people miss. We heal, we grow, and we move forward. We don’t fully get over being in love, sharing a life, and creating memories with someone we’ve felt a deep connection with. I
know firsthand that the heartbreak struggle is real—and there are three main reasons why.

If you have been wondering why it’s been so hard to heal and move forward from heartbreak, this is the conversation you need to have today.

Takeaways

We never really get over heartbreak—we heal and move
forward.

Heartbreak leaves lasting imprints on our hearts and minds.

Going no contact is essential for healing after a breakup.

Romanticizing a relationship can hinder the healing process.

Closure is something you must give to yourself, not seek from others.

Healthy distractions can help fill the void left by a breakup.

Resetting your energy is crucial for moving forward.

It's okay to take time to reclaim yourself after a relationship.

The version of you in the relationship is not the same as now.

Chapters

00:00 Understanding Heartbreak and Healing

02:05 The Importance of No Contact

04:57 Romanticizing Relationships

08:02 The Myth of Closure

<title>Ask Nakeia: How to Have Tough Conversations</title>
<description>Start by asking yourself, "Do I really need to have this conversation?"

This conversation is a new format for us, and I’m excited about it.

I get to answer a listener’s question in a series I’m calling Ask Nakeia.

This week’s question comes from “Liz.” She shared some background information before asking a question that many of you will relate to.

Her intention is to share her heart without hurting her mother, to be heard and respected, to maintain the health of the relationship, and to deepen the connection.

Can you guess what Liz’s question is? Some of my answers may surprise you. Tune in to hear the six practices I share and learn how your question could be the next one I answer in the all-new Ask Nakeia series.

Takeaways

Start by asking yourself, "Do I really need to have this conversation?"

Get clear on your intention.

Validation from others isn't always necessary.

Sometimes just being heard is enough.

You may need to process your feelings in the safety of a professional.

Decide how you will handle the worst-case scenario.

Only share what is necessary.

Release your projected outcomes.

Understanding your intent can guide your conversations.

Continue being brave enough to use your voice.

<title>How to Know When It's Time To Let Go</title>
<description>“When it blocks your blessings… Let it go.”

“How do I know when to let go?” is part of my top five most
frequently asked questions.

And today, I have answers...

In this episode, I walk you through the complex emotions surrounding the decision to let go of relationships, goals, and personal attachments. I’m sharing the signs you may be missing and sending you love as I share the signs you and I both know you know.

Through personal anecdotes and practical advice, this episode encourages you to confront your fear of change and failure and ultimately
let go.

Takeaways

When it’s time to let go, there will be signs.

Conditioning leads us to hold on longer than we should.

Fear of change can prevent us from letting go.

Letting go can feel like admitting failure.

Investment in time and energy can make it hard to release.

You don’t need closure to move on.

There is grief that comes from doing what's best for you.

Not everything we need to let go of is bad—It just may not
align with our current selves.

Everything that's good to you ain't good for you.

Letting go opens up space for new opportunities and growth.

      <title>Healing Without An Apology</title>
<description>“The people who hurt you may not want to see you healed.”

I was sending you love this entire episode.

Today, we discussed something that a lot of people struggle
with, which is healing without an apology.

In this episode, I really leaned into the fact that healing
is a personal journey that does not require the approval or acknowledgment of others. Even when it comes to feelings of hurt, disappointment, and betrayal, the way forward is through your decision to heal—not an apology. The truth is: some people aren’t willing, able, or ready to admit their wrongs, but you deserve to heal anyway. Once again, we are going “there.” There will be some talk about validating your own feelings, engaging in healing practices, self-care, and the steps one can take to reclaim their energy and find closure.

Takeaways

You don't need an apology to heal.

  Your healing belongs to you.

Healing does not require the approval or participation of
others.

The people who hurt you may not want to see you healed.

Apologies can come in different forms, not always verbal.

  Your work is to heal.

Excuse yourself from the offense and move forward.

Acknowledge your feelings to begin the healing process.

  You can give yourself closure.

Healing without an apology is the ultimate act of self-care.

<title>Healing Beyond The Hashtags: A Roadmap For Your Healing Journey</title>
<description>"The habits that helped you survive in the past could be the cause of your current struggle."

Everyone is talking about healing. There is a hashtag for
every trending healing practice. Yet, people are still struggling with the same patterns, relationships, and mindset.

My book, “Habits for Healing: Reclaim Your Purpose, Peace, and
Power is what ABC News calls “a roadmap to healing” because it outlines nine essential habits that can help you go from a traumatic childhood, burnout, insecurity, shame, or hopelessness to healing, growing, thriving, and living in purpose, peace, and power.

In this week’s episode, each healing habit is explored in detail, highlighting the significance of self-care, letting go, personal accountability, acceptance, self-forgiveness, not taking things personally,
minding one's own business, setting boundaries, and remembering one's identity, so you can engage in your healing journey and identify practices that resonate with your unique experiences.

After listening, you will be ready to take the next step on your healing journey.

Takeaways

Self-care practices must be individualized to be effective.

Letting go of past habits is essential for growth.

Personal accountability empowers individuals to take control
of their lives.

Acceptance involves adjusting expectations and recognizing
capacity.

Self-forgiveness is crucial for honoring personal progress.

Not taking things personally helps in understanding the
truth.

Minding your own business allows for personal focus and
growth.

Setting boundaries is necessary for healthy connections.

Remembering who you are is vital for embracing
possibilities.

Power is what ABC News calls “a roadmap to healing” because it outlines nine essential habits that can help you go from a traumatic childhood, burnout, insecurity, shame, or hopelessness to healing, growing, thriving, and living in purpose, peace, and power.</p>
<p>In this week’s episode, each healing habit is explored in detail, highlighting the significance of self-care, letting go, personal accountability, acceptance, self-forgiveness, not taking things personally,
minding one's own business, setting boundaries, and remembering one's identity, so you can engage in your healing journey and identify practices that resonate with your unique experiences.</p>
<p>After listening, you will be ready to take the next step on your healing journey.</p>

<title>Eveything You Need To Know About Boundaries</title>
      <description>"Love me with your boundaries."

In this episode, I unpack the complex topic of boundaries.

We explore why you may struggle to set them and how they can
be reframed as tools for safety and support in relationships. I discuss the
historical context of boundaries, particularly within family dynamics, and
emphasize the importance of mutual respect and effective communication. I provide practical advice on how to effectively communicate boundaries, the actions to take when they are crossed, and the significance of consistency in maintaining them.

Ultimately, I share everything you need to know to begin the
healing practice of setting boundaries. My take is different from what you may have heard in the past, and my hope is that this fresh approach will change your most valued relationships.

Takeaways

Boundaries are essential for feeling safe and supported in
relationships.

Many struggle with boundaries due to past experiences and
family dynamics.

Setting boundaries can preserve relationships rather than
harm them.

If your boundary isn’t communicated, it doesn’t exist.

You are responsible for your own boundaries and actions.

Stop negotiating your boundaries with chronic boundary
crossers.

Respect for boundaries is mutual and should be reciprocal.

  Boundaries are for family, too.

If you struggle with boundaries, it may indicate a deeper
issue with the relationship.

Ask yourself what you need to feel safe and supported in
your relationships.

<title>Why You Should Talk To Yourself More Often</title>
<description>“Most people don’t get what they want because they don’t
know what they want.”

Self-awareness is revolutionary.

Knowing who you are, what you want, and why you want it will
literally change the quality of your life—and the only way to get to the bottom of it is through conversations with yourself.

This week, we discuss the significance of self-dialogue and
its impact on personal growth and self-awareness. The practice of having
meaningful internal conversations is something I learned from a mentor when I was a young girl. I thought it was silly, but because I trusted my mentor, I did it anyway—and I’ve been talking to myself ever since.

The benefits of self-talk are priceless, and I’m sharing the
ones that have impacted my life the most, as well as a few other reasons you should have conversations with yourself daily. If you want to cultivate a deeper relationship with yourself and improve the quality of your life, start with today’s episode.

Takeaways

  Self-dialogue deepens self-awareness.

Most people don’t get what they want because they don’t know
what they want.

Self-talk can improve emotional regulation, communication,
and productivity.

Knowing your 'why' informs your decisions.

  Self-awareness leads to self-actualization.

  Self-talk enhances mindfulness and focus.

  You are your eternal companion.

<title>The Truth About Healing: What It Means and How To Do It</title>
      <description>“Healing is a privilege.”

That change in your commute to work, phone conversation with a friend, extra 20 minutes of sleep, or the boundary you just set with a sibling is proof that you are healing.

This episode explores the concept of healing, emphasizing that it is a journey towards wholeness rather than a destination. We discuss the various layers of healing, the truths about healing, and the continuous
nature of the healing process. Instead of pressuring yourself to meet an
unrealistic definition of healing, I am inviting you to define it for yourself,
recognize your progress, and engage in daily practices that lead to wholeness.

Takeaways

Healing is about becoming whole and aligned.

Healing can involve multiple cycles throughout life.

Feeling pain does not negate the healing process.

Loss can be a part of healing.

Healing is a lifelong journey, not a one-time event.

Daily practices contribute to a sense of wholeness.

Self-awareness is key to recognizing healing progress.

Setting boundaries is an important aspect of healing.

Emotional maturity is reflected in the ability to feel.

Healing is a privilege that allows for continuous growth.

<title>How To Handle The Worst Season In Your Life</title>
<description>“Feelings may not be facts—but they are valid.”

I think it’s safe to say we’ve all experienced something we
could label "the worst"— at least until the next worst thing happens.

In this episode, I discuss the universal experience of
facing life's worst moments and offer practical practices that will help you
navigate them. We dive into the importance of feeling emotions, making a
decision to heal, collecting lessons from struggles, prioritizing self-care,
and embracing the new version of yourself that emerges from adversity.

This episode is special. I didn’t realize it until I listened to the playback, but I get really raw as I share what was one of the most painful experiences in my life. My hope is that I encourage you as I encouraged myself with this one.

Finally, I extended a special invitation for you to share your “worst season” story with me. Listen to this episode, and if you have the capacity, email me directly at podcast@nakeiahomer.com.

*Please note the correct email address. The one I shared on
the podcast is incorrect.

Correct email address is: podcast@nakeiahomer.com

Takeaways

Feel all of your feelings—they are valid.

Remember past challenges to find strength.

Make a conscious decision to heal.

  Collect lessons from your struggles.

  Prioritize self-care during tough times.

  Ask for help.

Embrace the new version of yourself that emerges.

Your worst times can lead to personal growth.
