Some surrounded me; others went off in different directions. One, who appeared to be the leader of the raid – and who looked & acted American – handcuffed me. He took out a photo, glanced at it and looked at me hard, saying I was the one they were looking for. He identified himself as a special agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration and told me that I was under arrest. He informed me that I had been indicted in the US in 1981 for drug related crimes along with my friend Carlos Lehder. I was told that he’d been captured two days earlier in Columbia. I was also informed that they had known where I was living for a year and a half, and they didn’t bother with me until they captured Carlos, whom he referred to as the “Kingpin” of the Medellin Cartel. The DEA agent, now accompanied by another agent, proceeded to our home where they ransacked the place. Most of Noriega’s people were combing the property looking for contraband, I presume. Except for a small stash of pot for my personal pleasure, there was nothing to be found. We landed at the Armenia Airport, this time without any fanfare. Not being an airport of entry, no customs paperwork was required.  Initially, we were guests of Carlos Lehder at ‘Bella Horizante’, his picture book ranch sitting on a bluff overlooking the valley below. Pure white cattle contently grazed in a pasture adjoining a large spectacular bamboo grove on one side, and hectares of pineapples on the other. I shall forever cherish the close friendships that I developed with my Columbian amigos. We saw Carlos often when he had time to spare from his business activities. Being an ambitious and charismatic young man, he had a large following of admirers that encouraged him to enter the political arena in his local area. He was very adept at impromptu gatherings and speaking to his fellow countrymen. He was also busy completing a beautiful hotel that was built on the side of a mountain with a breathtaking view.  Carlos had purchased an old dairy farm and invited us to take a look at it. It was in close proximity to his hotel. It consisted of a farmhouse and a structure for feeding & milking cows. It was late September, around my birthday, and upon my congratulating Carlos on his latest acquisition, I was shocked when he told me that the farm was his birthday gift to me! After checking out of the Bahamas, we flew directly to Toronto where we spent the night. The next day, we completed the final leg of our trip flying across Canada to Calgary.  We eventually found an old mining community called Kimberly, located in one of the valleys. It was a charming little village maintaining a Bavarian motif. With great determination, we finally found a cabin the shore of a beautiful lake at the foot of the Rockies. We settled into our new home, purchased a Bronco to negotiate rough winter terrain, ordered a couple chords of firewood, and fell into a relaxed mood once again. This was a completely different environment, one that we had never experienced before. For me, a legal precedent, really means nothing other than Ryder was trying to poke the proverbial bear in the Bored Ape Yacht Club leadership, the sheer fact that it has gone this far says something. In The lawsuit Yuga Labs accused Ryder of trademark infringement over a parody of BAYC’s non-fungible token (NFT) collection. On Friday, a California court said that Yuga was entitled to protect the BAYC trademark and that Ripps and Cahen’s project, known as RR/BAYC, isn’t artistic expression protected by the First Amendment. “Defendants’ sale of RR/BAYC NFTs is no more artistic than the sale of a counterfeit handbag,” wrote US District Judge John Walter in a summary judgment. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices The legal battle between Yuga Labs and Ryder Ripps and Jeremy Cahan, has come to a conclusion, all the bolstering and posturing of Ryder Ripps around his theories of the Bored Ape Yacht Club has hit a legal precedent.

For me, a legal precedent, really means nothing other than Ryder was trying to poke the proverbial bear in the Bored Ape Yacht Club leadership, the sheer fact that it has gone this far says something.

In The lawsuit Yuga Labs accused Ryder of trademark infringement over a parody of BAYC’s non-fungible token (NFT) collection.

On Friday, a California court said that Yuga was entitled to protect the BAYC trademark and that Ripps and Cahen’s project, known as RR/BAYC, isn’t artistic expression protected by the First Amendment.

“Defendants’ sale of RR/BAYC NFTs is no more artistic than the sale of a counterfeit handbag,” wrote US District Judge John Walter in a summary judgment.

To me the judgement seems shortsighted, it seems like a judgment made without understanding the nuances or the fundamentals of NFTs and Ryders argument.

From Richard Ruelas to Jana Bommersbach and Don Devereux, we’ve been led down a labyrinth of evidence, cover-ups and staggering revelations.  Whenever a journalist worth his salt is given information, you attempt to confirm those leads through other sources. The person who we believed could confirm a great deal of the evidence brought forth in Episodes 1-8 was Kathy Kolbe. After months of trying to get Kolbe to go on the record, she agreed to speak with us on a number of topics related to the case. As coincidence would have it, the interview took place on June 2nd - 46 years to the day that the bomb went off under Don Bolles’ car. As I stated in earlier episodes, Kathy Kolbe was a close personal friend of Don & Rosalie Bolles. In true Kanye fashion he gave me a great sound byte, even though I was only able to ask him one question. Here is his response to me asking him about the scrutiny that the police had on the industry. This was polo Kanye, College Dropout Kanye… but still it was Kanye in the back of a kitchen…. I was trying to tackle racial issues, but my execution was off—it was sloppy. Those early hours, an entire city scrambled to come to grips with the savage attack, and who might be involved.

Bolles was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was in surgery for 5 hours and had his right leg amputated above the knee.

He eventually would lose both legs and an arm due to infection.

Though in critical condition, Bolles remained conscious after his surgery. Two police officers showed Bolles a picture of John Harvey Adamson and asked him if he was the guy.

Each geographic location, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York had these crack cocaine crews that took over pockets of geography. It was inside communities where the police went from being in control to wave of violence and decimation that is still being reconciled to this day.

For this story, I needed to understand the complexities of Billy Chase, a police officer who chose a dangerous path and in the process lost his mind and his soul, but for me, Billy Chase’s story resonates because it truly gets inside the gears of Bridgeport, and a police department that would send minority officers onto the frontlines, yet at the precinct didn’t have any respect…..
