At the back end of 2024 outgoing ICC Chair Greg Barclay suggested the West Indies should into seperate islands and nations. Then news broke that new ICC chair Jay Shah and the head of CA and ECB are planning to introduce a two tier system to test cricket so they can play each other more and make more money. The implication is that West Indies would be one of those teams that would fall into a unprofitable tier two. Predictably this has caused huge outrage. Do Guyana and Barbados care about West Indies cricket?

There is no cricket in the Caribbean without Politricks.

Last year Cricket West Indies held a critical meeting to look at the Wehby report and implement some more much needed governance reform.

Alas the Barbados and Guyana cricket associations refused to show up to the meeting thereby impeding the process (disclaimer: they did eventually agree to the same recommendations a few months later).

This isnt the first time they have acted in this manner and likely wont be the last.

Super 50 chaos - Double forfeit and no champion declared

Never a dull day in West Indies cricket. Nearly 24 hours after the 2024 Super 50 final should have started, CWI put out a statement confirming that there would be no champion declared in the competition. Unbelievably they confirmed that neither the Barbados or Jamaica captain presented themselves at the toss, approx 17 mins before play would have been called off - leading to a double forfeit of the final. Machel and Santokie tried to unpick the latest CWI media release that as ever posed more questions than answers.

What does the new MOU mean for West Indies cricket?

So much has happened in West Indies cricket that you could be forgiven for missing the big news that CWI and WIPA had signed a new Memorandum of Understanding.

The agreement lasts until 2027 and heralds in a new partnership designed to solidify commitment to promoting gender pay equity within West Indies cricket. The MOU outlines plans to achieve parity in international and regional match fees, international captain’s allowances, international team prize money and regional individual prize money for all West Indies cricketers by 1 October 2027.

The MOU also aligns the performance grading criteria for international women's and regional men’s contracts with the established standards for international men, ensuring a uniform evaluation process across domestic and international cricket from 1 October 2024.

How apt that following West Indies miraculous performance to share the Frank Worrell Trophy, Trinidad and Tobago cricket journalist Vaneisa Baksh joined us to talk about her latest book 'Son of Grace' - a biography on the great Frank Worrell.

A project that began in 2016 has ended with Baksh putting together the fruits of her archive hunting to write a comprehensive account of Frank Worrell and his life and legacy.

We often say on the Caribbean Cricket Podcast that understanding the history of West Indies cricket is critical to understanding our identity as West Indian people and this book does that and then some.

The Unforgiven: Mercenaries or Missionaries?

Some things are indelible in West Indian cricket history and not all of it positive. Between 1982 and 1984, 20 West Indian cricketers broke the Gleneagles agreement and decided to tour apartheid South Africa.

Author and Sports Writer Ashley Gray (@AshG66) took it upon himself to meet with as many of those cricketers as possible to unpick the real story behind each individual. Did they deserve the global condemnation they received that forced many to flee their homelands or into destitution?

We dived deep into the history of the rebel tours with Ashley and looked at it from all angles.

Kieran was very disappointed to see his name missing not only from the ODI tour of Sri Lanka but the subsequent 30 man provisional squad announced for the upcoming tour of England.
