Pirates are Champions + Peterborough Campaign Member Brian Connolly

Poole Pirates are once again Cab Direct Championship Champions but it took a Super Heat against the Glasgow Tigers to decide the title. The 2 side were locked on 90-90 after 30 heats, but Zach Cook and Richard Lawson grabbed maximum points in the ultimate decider! We have reaction from Ashfield speaking to Zach & Richard, plus Will Cairns, Gary Havelock, Neil Middleditch and Danny Ford. We also hear from Chris Harris who scored a 15 point maximum in the final for the Tigers.

We also have reaction to the news from Peterborough where a planning application to develop the former home of the Panthers has been thrown out. Could this now open the door for a return of speedway to the East of England Showground.

Coventry Update - Jeff Davies + GB U21 Boss & SCB Co Ordinator Neil Vatcher

A short update to bring you a chat with one of the people leading the quest to save Coventry's Brandon Stadium, Jeff Davies.

An Appeal over a planning application to redevelop Coventry’s Brandon Stadium has been dismissed by the Inspector.

Brandon is one of British Speedway’s most significant venues, having hosted top national and international events as well as being home to the Bees at the top level of the sport for sixty years.

It was closed in the winter of 2016/17 as developers pursued plans for housing and, subsequently, a 3G football pitch, which was rejected last winter by the local Planning Committee.

That decision has now been upheld following a public inquiry, in which representatives for Rugby Borough Council and the Save Coventry Speedway & Stox Campaign Group produced evidence and key witnesses in support of the stadium.

The Appeal was dismissed on the grounds that the stadium with its established use is not surplus to requirements and the ‘benefits’ of the alternative provision do not outweigh the loss of the stadium, therefore putting the proposals in conflict with various sections of national and local legislation.

Jeff was speaking at the GB Young Lions Celebration of Speedway event, and we also catch up with GB youth boss Neil Vatcher. The draw for the U21 final qualifier was completed as well as an unveiling for the 2024 Youth Championship programme, and we look ahead to some of the changes coming into play in British Speedway in 2024 too with Neil who also heads up British referees.

British Speedway AGM Statement & 2023 Update

BRITISH Speedway Promoters’ Ltd can now confirm the structure of the 2023 season following this week’s AGM in Coventry.

All clubs present confirmed their intention to race next year, with Leicester moving up to the Premiership as expected.

This means the top-flight will comprise seven clubs, with nine clubs contesting the Championship after the welcome news that Armadale Stadium is set to be available enabling Edinburgh to continue.

In this brief update we take a look at the changes coming to British Speedway in 2023, but in the coming days we will release a longer podcast discussing the changes, and the thinking behind them in much more detail.

Championship Grand Final half time report! | Belle Vue win Premier Pairs round 5!

It's alf time in the Championship Grand Final, with Poole Pirates taking an 8 point lead to the Leicester Lions on Saturday. We catch up with top scorer for the Pirates Richard Lawson, plus boss Neil Middleditch. Whilst from the Lions camp Connor Mountain looks ahead to the second leg, and we also hear from Richie Worrall.

Belle Vue Aces continued their winning streak claiming victory in round 5 of the Premiership Pairs at the National Speedway stadium. We hear the thoughts of winning captain Brady Kurtz, as well as Ipswich co promoter Chris Louis.

There's also been a couple of new signings for 2023 announced, we hear from Frederik Jacobsoen of the Kings Lynn Stars and Jack Holder, who has committed his future to the Sheffield Tigers.

In the premiership Peterborough and Wolves were made to wait, but it was victory for Belle Vue at Owlerton meaning it’s the home sides with the advantage ahead of Thursday, when now both second legs take place at the same time..!

Nigel Pearson has been talking to some of the stars of Wolves and Peterborough, we’ll hear from Rory Schlein and Luke Becker who gives a hint to his 2022 plans. And for the Panthers we’ve got the Danes Hans Andersen and Michael Palm Toft with an injury update..

The injury to Palm Toft has played a critical role in the Championship Playoff picture after Redcar desperately missed him as Edinburgh took a solid lead into the second leg of their playoff tie.
