Remembering Mark McGhee's reign as Reading manager

Mark McGhee and Colin Lee transformed Reading's fortunes in the mid 90s. Jimmy Quinn scored 40 goals in 1993-94 as Reading went up as champions into what is now the Championship - and went close to promotion to the Premier League the following season. The Royals finished second in 1994-95, but the league was being restructured and meant that Reading were denied automatic promotion. They missed out against Bolton in the play-off final after being 2-0 up at Wembley. Dylan Kerr, who was player of the season in 1993-94, and author Alan Clements look back on a magical time for Reading fans.

Bob Lenarduzzi - Reading's first Canadian player

Our special guest is Bob Lenarduzzi, the first Canadian to play for Reading. He played in the same Reading side as Royals legends Steve Death and Robin Friday. Lenarduzzi went on to play for Vancouver Whitecaps and also played for Canada in the 1984 Olympics (as Canada reached the quarter finals) and the 1986 World Cup. He scored his first goal for Canada in a 3-0 win against the USA in the 1978 World Cup qualifiers. He went on to manage the Canadian national team and now works as club liaison officer for Vancouver Whitecaps.

Lenarduzzi chats about his fond memories of his time at Reading and how it shaped his life not just his career, joining Reading as an apprentice with Steve Hetzke, being surprised when he was told that part of his duties as an apprentice included cleaning the players' boots and cleaning the players bath, his memories of playing for Reading, the players he played with and managers he played under, playing in the same side as Robin Friday and Steve Death, how Steve Death was actually a decent outfield player, setting up one of Robin Friday's 'wonder goals', playing against Pele, George Best and Franz Beckenbauer - and the time he nutmegged Johan Cruyff.

He also chats about the current Reading side, current Royals Junior Hoilett and Deanne Rose and Bryan Adams playing and scoring in a game for Vancouver.

The Royals finished second that season, but a restructure meant that only the champions went up to the Premiership. Kevin Bremner - Record Breaking Royal

He scored one of the goals as the Royals won 2-0 at Newport to break the record for most wins at the start of the season in the 1985-86 season and was a key member of that season's Division 3 title-winning squad. He was key to victory in one of the most famous Reading victories of all time, as they came from 3-0 down with 25 minutes remaining to win 4-3 against Plymouth and scored the late winner - and it was his all action style that made him a fans favourite in his two seasons at Elm Park.
