It was a night of nostalgia and celebration and any thought of the game itself becoming a damp squib was comprehensively put to bed as Nottingham Forest dominated their Swedish opponents to run out 3-0 winners. In truth it could and should have been more as the gulf in class between the two clubs looked wider than it’s ever been.

Captain Fantastic, Ryan Yates opened the scoring and it was finished off in the second half by the Serbinator, Nikola Milenkovic. But it was the middle goal that many fans are particularly feeling pleased with as a hardworking Arnaud Kalimuendo notched his first for the club.

It was another frustrating night for Nottingham Forest as the away day in Europe at Sturm Graz of Austria petered out to a flat nil nil draw. The Reds dominated the match – especially in the first half and were a missed Morgan Gibbs-White penalty away from grabbing all three points. For it really only need the one goal as the hosts had little to offer and rarely threatened the Forest goal.

Questions over the injury list, squad fitness and depth-quality now dominate the post-match debates as both McAtee and Kalimuendo couldn’t see out the match, and whilst Sturm Graz didn’t have much up top, John Victor in the Forest net still managed to look suspect when saving fairly regulation efforts on his goal.

We’ll dissect the key moments from last night and then all eyes are on the visit of Leeds United to the City Ground on Sunday.

It is now simply a must-win in the Premier League for Forest. Anything less and the relegation battle gets just that little bit harder… We need to see the same determination and endeavour that was on show last time out in the premier league versus Man Utd and this time take all three points - The fight is on!

Newcastle v Nottingham Forest Match Review 25/26

Most Forest fans could only see defeat happening at St James’ Park today and most fans, as it turns out, were right.

Yes, it was a better first half from the men in Red and the system change seemed to work whilst the commitment and endeavour was promising. But when you’re not really laying a glove on your opponents goal and then come off second best for pretty much all of the second 45 minutes, the writing is well and truly on the wall. In the end a 2-0 defeat might be viewed as kind given some of the saves Matz Sels made from a plethora of Newcastle chances.

Under Ange it’s now, played seven, drawn two, lost five and yes… won none.

“It's a struggle, it’s a fight” – these were Ange’s words after the match ended but the question now on everyone’s lips is – will he be given more time to turn it around?

Did we see enough today to be confident things will change? Or is it now inevitable that Marinakis pulls the plug now before it really is too late?

FC Midtjylland Match Review/Newcastle Preview

It was supposed to be the homecoming of homecomings. The return of European football at The City Ground in 30 years. We had the lights, the fireworks - and the air of anticipation was ripe in the bars and pubs before kick-off. But then the script was slashed apart and the horror show began…

Disastrous defending from set-pieces, passes and moves that didn’t click, being bullied and out-muscled by a physical Danish team to lose 3-2 at home and the big night falling flat as a pancake was not on everyone’s bingo card. By the full-time whistle and chants of Ange getting sacked in the morning followed by cries for drinks with Nuno, I for one, most definitely wished I had in fact been at the Gala bingo instead of sat in The Peter Taylor Stand.

Where do we go from here? An unsettled fan-base, the pressure mounting on the new manager and fingers now being pointed in the direction of the boardroom…Could the end really be near for Ange after just 6 games in charge? Is that it all folks?

Calling for clear heads is fine but when you feel like you’re in one horror movie after another the danger feels very, very real…We are into October but last night it felt like Halloween had come just a little bit early…

Europa League: Nottingham Forest v FC Midtjylland Match Preview

All eyes are on Trentside this week as attention turns to Nottingham Forest’s first home match of this season’s Europa League.

There’s perhaps nothing more special than a match under the lights at the City Ground – an historic stadium that has seen iconic moments over the years from the club’s first goal in the European Cup from Garry Birtles and Robertson’s diving header against Cologne to the UEFA Cup and Paul McGregor v Lyon and that final goal at home in Europe from Steve Stone against Bayern Munich.

Our fans in Seville last week were treated to a wonderful first 45 minutes and a fabulous Igor Jesus brace and to come away with a point certainly felt great in the whole context of this being our first go at Europe for so long. But a win is crucial for Forest right now. Not just for this competition and getting us up the table but for the wider value that victory will bring. The players want it. The fans are desperate for it. Ange needs it...

Having an abundance of chances is one thing – actually scoring goals is entirely another…

It’s a result’s business and already the patience of many Forest fans has worn thin with some even calling for the Ange experiment to be terminated. Is that fair-dinkum or is it simply a time for calm heads..?

Europa League: Real Betis v Nottingham Forest Match Review

For two full days social media was awash with pictures of thousands of Nottingham Forest fans en route to Seville, congregating in their hundreds in the watering holes of the beautiful Spanish city, dancing, laughing, singing and getting ready for the clubs biggest night in 30 years.

The party was in full swing and some might be forgiven for forgetting that the small matter of the actual 90 minutes of football still needed to navigated through by both players and fans alike. Would the wave of adrenaline spill onto the pitch and see the men in Red perform to the best of their ability or might the occasion be just a bit too much for this fledgling Postecoglou team… well in the end we got a bit of both with a thrilling, entertaining and dramatic first half followed by a second that saw Real Betis take more control and Forest fail to put the game to bed with the game ending 2-2.

The takeaway is surely that it’s a huge away point gained thanks in no small part to our new Brazilian striker Igor Jesus….

Nottingham Forest refocus their sightline and its Bologna’s Dan Ndoye and Manchester City’s James McAtee who, according to reputable reports, the Reds now see as the ones to replace Antony Elanga and the potential departure of Morgan Gibbs-White.

I say potential because in spite of half of north London being adamant it was a done deal and he was holed up in a local hotel somewhere, there is still no development on MGW to Spurs…!

It possibly seems even further away than ever with MGW starting in Forest’s friendly against Monaco on Saturday and even more so with the fact he is on the plane with the squad to Portugal for their 10 day training camp….!

Should he stay or should he go now? If he goes will there be trouble? If he stays will be double?? He’s been labelled a snake by some Forest fans and just how will the rest of Forest squad on the plane be feeling towards their Talisman right now?

Our guest today, is a podcaster himself as one member of Red Side of the Trent, and a huge Forest fan who recently discovered first hand just how special the Forest family are when tributes and donations and sponsorship poured in when heannounced the cancer diagnosis of his wife, Emma and the drive to raise money and awareness for The Brain Tumour Charity. The dust is still settling but one thing I hope we can all agree on – this has been NottinghamForest’s best season in over 30 years. A season of lots of highs and invariably some lows as well. Nottingham Forest v Chelsea Match Review

It wasn’t to be as Nottingham Forest failed to capitalise on results elsewhere and finished the season with a home defeat to Champions League challengers, Chelsea. Unlikelydefeats for Aston Villa and Newcastle opened the door for the The Reds but a lacklustre second half saw Chelsea score early and Forest failed to really cause any problems to Robert Sanchez’s goal.

But let us not forget – Nottingham Forest have qualified for Europe next season. The UEFA Conference League represents real progress and a genuine chance to add silverware to the trophy cabinet. Maybe, it’s the little steps that are for the greater good and whilst it is disappointing to miss out on the big prize, hopefully it won’t take too long for all Forest fans to be genuinely happy with what we’ve got.

Nottingham Forest v Chelsea Match Preview

It all comes down to this. When the fixtures came out for this season, a home tie against Chelsea on the final day had all the hallmarks of a Forest ‘must-win’ in order to preserve Premier League their status. Afterall, the context of two seasons of struggle and inconsistency whilst trying to become a stable top flight team was for many, going to be too much for The Reds and relegation was a fore gone conclusion. Us optimists here at Talking Reds had pinned hopes on the mighty heights of twelfth as a possible league position in this third season but, even that felt quite hopeful to say the very least.

But here we are. And what a transformational season it has truly been for Nottingham Forest who now finds themselves in a straight shoot-out with Chelsea for a ChampionsLeague place. Yes, we know we need favour from elsewhere to get over the line but anyone who says they wouldn’t have taken this situation 10 months ago – well they’d be lying to you.

Forest need to first and foremost, take care of their own business. Any helping hand from Everton or Manchester United will be obviously gratefully received but whateverhappens, we’re in Europe next season and this magnificent club is on the up.

If we’d told you a year ago that with two games to go next season Forest would have already qualified for Europe and could still make the Champions League, that Nuno would win 3 manager of the month awards and be nominated for the manager of the season award, that Chris Wood would score 20 premier league goals and along with Morgan Gibbs-White, would be nominated for player of the season, andAntony Elanga would have at least 16 direct goal contributions under his belt and be up for young player of the season – well you’d have carted me off to the asylum and had me certified!

Any form of European football has to be recognised as a huge step forward in the growth of the club and you never know there may still be one or two twists in the tail end of this remarkable premier league campaign.

They say that time is a great healer. Well, it’s been about 4 hours since the full-time whistle at The City Ground and whilst we have regained a little bit of equilibrium, it feels like we’re going to need a bit longer to pull ourselvestogether after a hugely disappointing 2-2 draw against already-relegated Leicester City that leaves any hope of Champions League qualification out of our own hands and hanging by a thread.

It feels funny to feel so deflated when in fact Forest have secured European football next term. That point makes it a guarantee and if you’d offered me Conference League qualification back in August, well – I’d have bitten yer balls off.Perspective and clear heads are needed. It was a great day up until 4.32pm yesterday. We’d congregated at a lovely pub in St John’s Wood, the drinks were flowing and the food was great! Spirits were highand the nerves had turned into genuine belief…

Then Rico Lewis scored within two minutes for City and the damp squib of a first half killed the party and it then seemed that in spite of a much better second half, it just wasn’t gonna be our day.

We’ll reflect on defeat at Wembley and then focus on what was always the priority – cementing a champions league place and ensuring the trips next season include Barcelona,Bayern Munich and Juve…! Brentford under the lights at The City Ground on Thursday night is now the first of five huge finals for our men in Red!

Let’s be honest it wasn’t fun watching everyone else play before us – mainly because the wins they collectively achieved between them dropped Forest into sixth placeahead of kick-off at Spurs and the pressure to win was intensified to the max as, for many, it looked as though the slip-up was on! But no. On no no no…. Once again, following a set-back Nottingham Forest laid down their credentials bounced-back with another win on the road to do the premier league double over Tottenham Hotspur. It was pretty – especially in the second half and I know it was EasterMonday but the amount of crosses going into our box was enough to make even the Romans shudder. But a win is a win and a vital three points puts The Reds back in third place with five premier league games to play.

With Richard and I is a man who had to suffer just that little bit extra last night as he was sat in the Spurs end! It’s Paul Morley!

Aston Villa v Nottingham Forest Match Review

Defeat is never a nice feeling and thankfully this season us Forest fans have hardly had to experience having our weekend trashed as the losses have been few and farbetween. Forest may come away from Villa Park this game week empty-handed (and let’s be honest when the mad five minutes kicked in we were all thinking of Bournemouthand Newcastle away right?) but the spirit and much improved second half display definitely gives us plenty of positives to ponder and we brush ourselves down,re-group and now focus on Everton at home next weekend and the other seven remaining Premier League matches in this still-fabulous season.

Even better news is that other results have certainly been favourable as both Chelsea and Man City drew 0-0 respectively today meaning the gap hasn’t been closed significantly at all and Forest still sit 3rd in the Premier League…

Brighton v Nottingham Forest (v Man Utd Match Preview!)

Twenty three years outside of the top flight and not a lot to shout about meant life as a Nottingham Forest fan was pretty dismal. The club of miracles had seemingly seenit’s final resurrection long ago and days in the sun were for fans of other teams. But then the magic dust fell again on the city of rebels and in the space of just a few seasons Forest have come out of nowhere to get promoted back tothe Premier League winning the play-off final at Wembley, going on a fabulous cup run as a championship side only to be knocked out at the quarter final stage by Liverpool, reached the semi final of the league cup, maintained theirtop flight status twice against all the odds and now sit strongly in third place in the Premier League table on the edge of the champions league - and following another penalty shoot-out thriller will now travel to Wembley in the FA Cup semi final where they will play reigning champions of England, Manchester City for a place in the final!

We’re gonna chat about all the key moments from the win at Brighton and with the next premier league game just 48 hours away we will cast an eye on the visit of Manchester United to Trentside on Tuesday night.

FA Cup Q/F: Brighton v Nottingham Forest

It’s true that all Forest fans want their players to feature and do well when on international duty whilst at the same time feeling perfectly content if they hardly get a kick and stay out of the way of potential injuries!

It’s a double edged sword and whilst Morga Gibbs-White will be feeling disappointed at zero minutes for England, Reds fans will be breathing a sigh of relief – especially as 18-goal centre forward Chris Wood has picked up a hip and ribissue playing for New Zealand that is likely to rule him out for at least a couple of games.

Forest are back on Saturday with the 5.15pm kick-off away at Brighton in the FA Cup and as the last couple of months of football are upon us (and with plenty still to play for), will The Reds now need to turn to their squad options a little morethan planned in order to get over the line?

Choose whichever phrase you like – the bottom line is Forest were a shadow of themselves yesterday whilst Bournemouth took the initiative from the very start, and ran the game they way they wanted it.

Maybe it was a kick in our complacency – especially after the warning signs were there in the second half last week against Southampton. One thing is for certain, it’s now about how Forest react. Their previous defeat was the 3-0 away match v Man City which then saw Forest embark on a fabulous winning run – let’s hope the same might be on the cards again starting at home to Brighton next Saturday.

Another victory for Nottingham Forest at home in the Premier League but after storming to a 3-0 half time lead, it wasn’t plain sailing as Southampton got themselves back into the game and at 3-2 and with 12 minutes of added time, it was most definitely squeaky bum time…

Nottingham Forest remain unbeaten in 8 games in all competitions and rise to sit second in the Premier League. The buzz before last night’s match against league leaders Liverpool was palpable and the atmosphere at The City Ground was right up there with the best its been in recent times.

The whole team performed as a strong unit, set up to repel a dangerous Liverpool team but there were standout players such as Murillo, Sels and Williams who showed we can go toe to toe at the top of the league and more than hold our own. Yes, it was a bit like the Alamo at the end but when you mix it with the big boys is it any surprise – I mean if you go swimming – you’re gonna get wet!

We’ll look back on a really positive night and also ahead to Sunday when Forest welcome bottom-of-the-table, Southampton to Trentside where they will look to quickly return to winning ways.

The FA Cup third round has traditionally seen teams from the lower leagues often claim the scalp of a high flying premier league side and the national press loving nothing more than making a big story out of it. There was no such drama at The City Ground as Nottingham Forest dispatched Championship side Luton 2-0 in a comfortable and professional display that sees them into round four and drawn away at League One Exeter City… Did someone say cup run….?

Forest made 11 changes at the weekend and are probably expected to do the same again as they are quickly back in premier league action tomorrow night when they welcome title rivals, Liverpool to the banks of the Trent… Win this one and that would be 7 premier league wins in a row (8 in all competitions) and a gap at the top closed to just three points…

Following another win for Nottingham Forest – and by the way that’s six in a row for anyone counting! – the national media have now woken up to the fact that we are a good side that sits third in the premier league (although level on points with second placed Arsenal…) Are Forest title contenders? That’s the question that the likes of Talksport are now asking on repeat – desperate it seems to pooh pooh the idea at every turn…!

Under new manager, Vitor Pereira, Wolves have taken 7 points from their last three games to climb out of the bottom three but with Forest being the in-form team away from home can the Tricky Trees make it 6 wins in a row.

Back in July us we did our preseason predictions so at the halfway point, how do they measure up to reality and do we now need to adjust our expectations and try and take a serious look at the pathway to Champions League football?

Our guest today is a someone who is usually the one who does all the introductions… a man with a career in broadcasting that stretches back to 1990 with spells on local radio up in Teeside and Hull before really becoming synonymous with Nottingham spending 14 years at Trent FM and then 13 years at BBC Radio Nottingham - with also a raft of presenting on Notts TV thrown in for good measure… in amongst all of that, since 2003 he has also been the stadium announcer at The City Ground, hosting all of the matches there for our beloved Nottingham Forest! Forest v Newcastle Match Review

It was a packed out City Ground and the promise of 4 wins in a row was all a buzz around the pubs and bars of West Bridgford ahead of kick-off against Newcastle United. Alas, it wasn’t to be as Nottingham Forest fell to only their second defeat of the season to a buoyant Newcastle who played largely in the same style and approach as Forest themselves have done so effectively this season.

The only bright moment was a first Nottingham Forest goal for Murillo in a 3-1 loss that sees the Reds drop down to 5th in the Premier League as we go into the international break.
