Matt and Bridget are still reeling from Hilde's disappearance and disagree over how to move forward. Matt grounds Hilde to Bridget's dismay. Frank Jr. finds himself back on the witness stand while testifying in his suspension hearing. Again, Frank succumbs to his father's wishes and lies under oath. Frank secures his spot in the Sheriff's race but sacrifices Tripp along the way. Hilde takes the upcoming Sheriff's race into her own hands and enters Tripp as a candidate. The DNA analysis on Richie's jacket identifies a new suspect.

Flashbacks from the Past - S1 E6 & E7 'Home Before Dark' Recap & Review

The episode begins with Bridget, Izzy and Hilde walking on a dark and desolate road. As the girls run, mom, Bridget finds herself running towards a van where the girls have disappeared. Similar to the night Richie was kidnapped, am I right? Awoken to a nightmare Bridget lays next to Matt as his father approaches the room yelling, "Get out of my bed". If that's not strange enough, we find out that Kim Collins and Frank Briggs Jr. have some sort of "friends with benefit" relationship. Is this Kim's way of getting over Matt?? Hilde continues her search into the disappearance of Richie and poses the question, "Who is the man with the 'Sinner' tattoo?" that her papa mentions in his notes. As Frank Jr. begins to doubt whether or not Sam is responsible for Richie's disappearance, he thinks it's best that he and Sam go on a trip down memory lane and recall everything that happened with Sam that night. But plans take a turn when Frank's dad, Sheriff Briggs finds Frank at the the Gillis' home and Sam escapes. In the following episode, Izzy and Hilde go to the dance when trouble breaks out after "Mean Girl" Jessica decides it's a good idea to pick on little Hilde. Of course, Izzy doesn't allow that and the two girls go head-to-head. This fight causes Izzy to go off on Hilde, wishing she'd disappear and well let's just say that happens. Hilde finds Sam in the woods as she begins to get answers to questions she's been dying to ask him, ultimately leading into a man hunt for Sam and missing Hilde. The search ends with Sam on top of a plane, Matt finding Hilde and Frank standing up against Sheriff and the squad. Could this search possibly put a halt on the investigation? Episode 4:

Izzy worries about her parents and admits that she misses NY. Hilde gets the original tape of Richie Fife's abduction and finds out that the tape belonged to a mysterious person later identified as Bird Man. Hilde, Donny and Spoon track down Bird Man who tells them that he turned the tape over to Sheriff Briggs after Richie went missing. Bridget goes to see Sam in prison and offers to help him. Hilde, supported by her dad, confronts the Sheriff at the clam bake. Someone sets Hilde's bike on fire.

Episode 5:

In the wake of last night's fire, Matt takes precautionary measures with his girls. Bridgit goes back to work helping Sam. Frank Jr. starts to question his memories about Richie's disappearance and his dad. The Mayor gets social and makes visits to Hilde at school and the sheriff at home. Matt gets peace when he finds out that his dad (Sylvester) believes him about Sam's innocence. Hilde almost has the physical evidence that she needs in Sam's van which she locates at the town salvage yard, but the sheriff beats her to it and has the van destroyed in front of her eyes. Sam attended his sister's memorial service but at the high price of agreeing not to sue the prison.

What Happened to Penny Gillis?! - S1 E1 - E3 'Home Before Dark' Recap & Review

We begin the series with the Lisko family moving across country, from Brooklyn to Erie Harbor, because Dad, Matthew Lisko played by Jim Sturgess, has been let go from his job as a journalist. Middle daughter, 9-year-old Hildie, played by Brooklynn Prince, is narrating, telling us that she too from a young age has always been a journalist and she fights for the truth.

In episode one we are introduced to "the players." Aside from dad Matt and daughter Hildie, you also meet Hildie's older sister Izzy, younger sister Ginny, and mother Bridget. The family is settling into their new life in this small town when something shocking happens. Penny Gillis from down the street is found dead. This event launches Hildie into a whole investigation. She writes an article saying that she believes Penny has been murdered, and this really sets the town on fire.

There is something off about this new town, Hildie knows it right from the moment they arrive and she is determined to get to the bottom of it. Through her research about Penny, she digs up some other things from her dad's and the town's past. We learn that Matthew grew up in Erie Harbor and hasn't come back for years, or wanted to, because his friend Richie was abducted in front of him when he was young.

We are introduced to Kim Collins, the principal, and old friend of Matt's and Richie's, as well as Frank, who is an officer and seems to be like some-what of an ex friend of Matt's.

Hildie feels like the town has clearly swept things under the rug, with both Richie's abduction and Penny Gillis's death. She, with help of a few new friends, end up cracking the case on Penny's death and we are left with a million and one questions.
