Investigating the inescapable influence of noncoding RNAs in breast cancer.

The Adams lab is interested in understanding how noncoding RNAs play a fundamental role in regulating the process of tumorigenesis. We utilize a variety of cancer cell lines and models, predominately breast and lung, to interrogate microRNA – circular-RNA interactions, and to then determine if disruption of these interactions can influence cellular signaling pathways that ultimately influence the tumorigenic cascade. A second interest in his lab is to understand how miRNA modifications can influence the activity, targeting capacity, and function of miRNAs during tumorigenesis.

The role of microRNAs in triple-negative breast cancer: Through in vitro and in vivo studies we intend on elucidating how small RNAs can inhibit tumorigenic properties. Our model system to address this question is triple-negative breast cancer, a rare yet more aggressive form of breast cancer.

Understanding the cause of breast cancer: We are using new tools to perturb non-coding RNAs during normal mammary gland development in vitro to help identify which essential pathways, that when go awry, cause cancer.

MicroRNA fundamentals in cancer: There is still much to be explored regarding the biogenesis, processing, and function of microRNAs. We are identifying novel mechanisms that alter the activity, targeting capacity, and function of miRNAs in normal cells versus cancer.

I grew up in a tough, lower-class neighborhood and I learned early that you have to negotiate the life you desire. The key to getting what you want and deserve is the art of influence and persuasion. Yet we’re not taught the secrets to this critical life skill.

My parents taught me early about my worth. What a gift I’d been given, believing my voice mattered. Not all women are so lucky. It is Saturday afternoon and I'm at my computer looking at and deleting hundreds of un opened emails. I finally got to a point, and decided if the email has sat unopened for two months or more I'm just going to delete it. I figured if was impotent it would come back to me. Not great business advice but hey, I let my emails get out of control and I had to do what I had to do.

Than it hit me. So many people trying to get your attention. Hundreds a day and I realize most are chatter. With Social Media being my #1 distraction.

What is it distracting me from? My company, where I should be laser focused (I stole the phrase from Ed Mylett).

I mean how much more successful our companies would be if we stopped being distracted by social media and became laser focused on turning our companies into the planet changing force we know they could be.

Are the distractions really worth it? NO WAY!

So let's agree to not let social media distract in 2024 an laser focus on our companies and raise them to the global level we know they can be.
